  1. "May 3rd! That means it's 209 days until my birthday from today! I wonder if I should tell everypony what I want, you can't ever think too far ahead when you're getting presents for your very special friends!"
  2. "Just a little bit older than that - twenty one!" "Mm-hmm."
  3. "Nuh-uh." "She was so quiet I would have forgotten she existed if we all didn't share the same bed." "She didn't talk much, no." "Marble was the quietest filly in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall of Rockville! She has the trophy for speaking less than any other pony in town for more than twenty years! I'm rooting for twenty five."
  4. Rice, just rice in general in just about any form. If you put it on my plate I will eat it. What's your favorite video game soundtrack?
  5. "I don't see why not, it wouldn't be the first time we had a unicorn help us out. We had this bigshot magician working here a few harvests back, going on and on about how "great and powerful" she was. Thank Celestia she's outta here, but I wonder where they ended up..." "Maud and I have been bestest sister friends since we were little, and now that she's in Ponyville we hang out all the time! I love everypony in my family though."
  6. "Rock candy isn't normal candy?! No way! But if I did have to choose it'd be cupcakes with rock candy in the frosting! Does that count? It does now!"
  7. I'm not necessarily worried about dying itself, I'm more terrified to see if there is an afterlife when I do pass away. Like I just don't want to die and...that's it. I can't bear with the full cessation of my very being, that is too much to bear. I do like to think that there is a god out there in some form and that spirits do exist but there is hardly any concrete way to tell that. That's why, as insurance, I'll freeze my body for science so that they might be able to resurrect me later. You have to always have a back up plan! If there's no afterlife than my ultimate Trump card is just to wait it out until I make my grand reentry! It'll be like Futurama but less cool.
  8. "I answered this question before, but because I'm nice I'll tell the story again. Ponies around Rockville are arranged into marriages from this sacred rock called the 'Pairing Stone' or whatever and are wed in a fortnight. Somewhere down the line we picked up a baker on my Pa's side and we've just been keeping 'Pie' in our names ever since. I don't know why it's that way but you don't question tradition."
  9. "Three hundred bits. I expect cash up front, we don't give IOU's!" ---------------------- "I write poetry about rocks. Does that count?" "I think there were a couple, but I can't remember. We were supposed to work all day without singing, dancing, or parties! It was awful!" "Mm-hmm."
  10. "It's been obligatory since we first met several years ago. I don't think Pinkie would let us go a Hearth's Warming without seeing them anymore but they're good ponies. Just as long as they don't touch Holder's Boulder!"
  11. "Ugh, I could go without music thanks. Every time we visit Pinkie in Ponyville it's all singing all the time, it gives me a migraine!" "I don't really listen to music much either, but I find myself enjoying rustic country tunes. The twang of a banjo cord captures the feeling of greenschist, it has a low intensity. Not that a banjo could survive the 300 °C metamorphic process." "Showtunes! Oh, oh, and yovidaphone music! The yaks really know how to put a song together!" "Mm-hmm."
  12. Marble again passes another note, "I hope so too, but our work seasons are so long I would hardly be able to find the time...and all those ponies, I wouldn't be able to get so much as a word out! You'd be surprised, even though I'm named after marble it's not my favorite rock. My favorite is Breccia, even though it's just really a bunch of smaller rocks clumped together I find that they can make some of the most interesting patterns and compositions...I really enjoy collecting them."
  13. Celestia and Luna's ascension to power in the show mostly seems to be predicated on their ability to move the sun and moon with ease. In "Horse Play" it's established that the unicorns could move the sun but with extreme difficulty that sapped them so completely that they had to keep bringing in new mages to take on the task - having that burden passed on to Celestia and Luna who could do it so effortlessly seems like a natural choice. That along with their status as alicorns, who are implied to be quasi-immortal given they've lived 1000+ years without aging, made them a natural choice to be Equestria's rulers. Part of the perception of Celestia as an all-powerful being comes down to how she is introduced in the first episode and how other ponies treat her. In the early seasons there isn't much to be said about Celestia, she's kindly and slightly mischievous but her motives constantly seem to be hidden in the shadows. It wasn't until the later seasons that we ended up seeing the more 'human' side of her which in part shatters the perception of her godlike divinity. Still, there is no mistaking the fact that her alicorn blood makes her far more powerful than just about most ponies who have ever lived. The issue for the writers is how to then give the main cast stakes if Celestia could swoop in and solve all the problems immediately? Obviously there are solutions to prevent her from becoming the literal 'god from the machine', but they opted for the route of disempowering her time and again because it shows how powerful in turn their villain of the season is. It's cheap, bad, and ultimately devalues her character but I believe that is the main reason she's presented as weak - because the plot requires her to be. There also is the possibility that she imposes a limit upon herself to test how Twilight and her friends will rise to the challenge and save the day, ultimately grooming Twilight for leadership by season nine, but whether or not that's part of Celestia's long game is unclear as she never explicitly states as much. I however do not prescribe to the idea that Celestia is growing weaker with age as her retirement to travel Equestria might suggest, I think it has to do more with her weariness of being the leader for over a thousand years. Anyone would want a break after that, thus she leaves Twilight in charge of the country in their stead - with ample possibility that she might return some day if she happens to be needed! If anything Celestia might be weaker by having her magic permeate across Equestria over that 1,000 years, I think that is the most plausible theory I can come up with, but in the show itself I think she keeps getting taken out of action is because the writers need her to be for the mane six to do the hero work. That's it, I'm done rambling now
  14. I wouldn't say Changelings are genderless, they do have very defined genders for themselves and they generally seem only able to transform into ponies of the same gender as themselves unless perhaps I am misremembering that. Regardless I'd just say that Changelings don't have any high degree of sexual dimorphism which allows us to easy distinguish them as we might ponies or birds based on their physique or color.
  15. "Ponyville. I like my family, but I wouldn't have met Mudbriar or any of my friends if I didn't leave."
  16. "I guess they're alright...is this some kind of trick question?" "Applies are amazing! You can make so many different treats with them! Apple pie, apple strudel, apple cider, caramel apples , all the apples! Oh! And don't forget that Applejack, she farms apples, so that means they're automatically amazing!" "We never had apples on the farm, I only had them after I moved to Ponyville. They're decent. Not as good as rock soup, it has more calcite." "Mm-hmm!"
  17. She returns yet another note, "I would really want to see Canterlot, Maud has told me so much about it from her rock summits she likes to visit, it sounds so very beautiful. If I could see any of the princesses while I was there I might just faint!" "Those are the ones! It'll be the biggest and bestest birthday bash you've ever seen! I can't tell you what else I'm going to bring though, that'd be spoilers! Shhhhh!" "Try Rhyolite. It's a white volcanic rock with over seventy percent silica composition. They sometimes have opals in them, because they have trapped gas deposits. It's as good find as far as igneous rocks go."
  18. "No! We work into the night, if we don't we'll miss our quotas and it'll throw all my charts off. I can't have that, so we don't take breaks!"
  19. Unicorns make up the dominant pony race in Canterlot as others have said, I think this primarily might have to with the magic institutions which are implied to be there, so rich families are likely to congregate there more often to give themselves and their children the best education in that field since often how adept one is in magic gives you more prestige. Perhaps it's also that many unicorn families have ties back to the initial sorcerers who had to move the sun and moon before Luna and Celestia arrived - thus they continue to try and curry favor in the court? Who knows, ultimately you can speculate on the subject all you want because it's never really explicitly said why. Earth ponies primarily seem to have talents relating to agriculture, so they don't much much business in Canterlot otherwise I'd imagine. Considering Equestria is a by and large utopian society I wouldn't say that the demographics are skewed as they are due to any racism - even if we do see snoody unicorns who look down on Earth Ponies.
  20. It's a joy to see a resolution to Big Mac's relationship with Sugar Belle, it's very wholesome, and the fact that they got married under the pear/apple (pearpple??) tree their parents planted together gives me life. Naturally though Discord causes wanton chaos just by being involved in the story, the constant escalation of things up until you have a giant apple monster stomping around is as always very humorous to see. Overall there is a lot to like about this episode, it's hard to think of a better episode to leave off on right before the inevitable crazy train which is the finale, like a calm before the storm as it were.
  21. "Uhh, working? Just because it's a holiday doesn't give you an excuse not do your job." "I was hoping--" "Huh? Did you say something Marble?" "N-Nuh-uh." "Pinkie is having a party at the School of Friendship. I was thinking of being a geode this year." "Oh course I know, I wouldn't be Ponyville's #1 Party Pony if I didn't know everypony's birthdays! I'll be sure to throw you the most amazingand awesome birthday bash you've ever seen! I hope you like Party Cannons, ehehe!" "First off, yeah, quartz is a mineral and not a rock - but we do sell it if you want some. Anyway, we mine your three basic types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. That's really simplifying it, but because the farm sits on a volcanic plane there's a good variety in what you can find. How we price is based on how much you buy, because most often we get bulk orders for construction projects." Marble quietly slips a paper back which reads, "Thank you for your letter, many ponies don't bother asking because I don't like talking too much. Ever since Pinkie left the farm she's been sending postcards, I like collecting the stamps on them - I really like all the designs they can have. It gives me a way to see places in Equestria I'll probably never go because Limestone needs me here on the farm. I also like knitting, Limestone and I will sit together and work on making clothes when we have time free. She's nice when you get to know her, honest."
  22. "All of them! Hehe!" "Grey. It reminds me of rocks, which are grey." "What?! That's my favorite color too! Are you trying to copy me or something?" "Gasp! No way, Maud, that's Marble's favorite color too! You can all be best sister color friends now!!" "Mm-hmm!"
  23. "I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. Here on the farm I'm in charge, and ponies need our rocks. There's no other line of work I'd rather be doing." "Mm-hmm!" "I'm not a rock farmer anymore really! I'm Ponyville's certified Super Party Planner! If I was still on the farm I wouldn't have met all my friends - gasp! That'd be awful!!" "Technically, I don't work on the farm unless Limestone needs me. But, I could get a degree in dendrology. That's the study of wooden plants. It'd make Mudbriar happy."
  24. They just released a mockup for this new Rainbow Dash figurine!

    I. Must. Have. It.
