What kind of things really interest you in a TV show, video game, movie, anime, or whatever other types of media?

I really like robotic/cyborg and futuristic stuff in animes, TV shows and videogames. One of my current favorite games is Mass Effect, for example, since all the alien stuff and colonies in outer space, but I really also want to play the new Metal Gear Rising game cause Raiden's character design is SO awesome so I wanna see if the game's any good (the PC port, specifically).

How about you?

I gravitate toward sci-fi. I've always loved it, I love the freedom, the potential, the fantastic settings. But if I'm to be honest, it's the characters which make or break a story for me. A diverse cast with good chemistry, (be it positive or negative), and each individual having a nuanced personality. This, along with the overall 'vibe' of a work, are the things which really attract me and make me stick around to watch.

For TV shows, Firefly, Cowboy Bebop and Star Trek: TNG are a few of my all time favourites. On the less sci-fi scale of things, I really enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist.

Books, while I still find that appealing cast the most vital thing, I'll pay more attention to writing style and overall theme as well. I've loved Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. Markus Zuzak's 'The Book Thief' is beautiful, Anne McCaffrey's 'The Dragonriders Of Pern' wins me over with it's setting. (The Harperhall books are my favourites.)

I like dark, brutality, gore, humour, horror and others in the media.

I really like Metalocalypse from Adult Swim, the show has brutality, humour and great Death Metal.

Skyrim is my favourite video game right now where I play as a Khajiit Battlemage.

I don't watch much movies but I like Adam Sandler's movies and other funny movies.

In anime I like shows like Naruto and Bleach, what I am watching now is Hellsing which is a horror anime with lots of bloody action.

I love dark settings.

Things that are around Tim Burton's style are really appealing to me, I really enjoy fantasy settings as well, Final fantasy, The legend of Zelda and such being some of my favorite videogames. I am not much into Sci-fi but I can't deny that there are some wonderful movies and videogames out there with that setting.

As far as Anime goes, I am not really sure to be honest, I love anime with really good animation and music. Cowboy Bebop to give an example, this anime has amazing music plus excellent animation. However, I think I look forward to a more "Western" type of animation when it comes to anime, but the japanese feel is really strong as well. , probably that's why I am a huge fan of Hiroyuki Imaishi's works ( Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Dead Leaves, Kill la Kill, etc. )

I enjoy medieval settings that feature medieval weaponry and politics. I got into Game of Thrones about three months ago because of that.

But to be honest, I actually prefer straight medieval/low fantasy over having dragons and such running around. I'm more in it for the medieval warfare. That's why I prefer games like Mount and Blade or Medieval: Total War over Skyrim or The Witcher.

Another thing I actually like are demons or demonololgy in games. I've gotten a huge interest in it, and to me having such elements allows for terrifying abominations and for interesting delves into how characters react to it and how demons interact with humans since they are much more open and based upon concepts and ideals than actual personality. I really love the SMT series of games because of that.

For games, I like customization.  And lots of open world freedom, with tons of different things to do that you don't have to do in order besides the main storyline.

for shows/movies,  i don't have too much of a preference.  I don't really like robot things.  I'm not into action movies are anything serious like those shoot em up movies.

I love when something that focuses on comedy can stop trying to be funny for a bit and deliver some really good drama or tension or emotions. I think this is why I really like shows like M*A*S*H and Scrubs and Roseanne, or games like Mother 3.

Romance. I love romance. <3 Not too sure why, but I always enjoy a good bit of romance in anime, games, etc. even if it isn't the main focus. :) (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, Mass Effect, etc.)

Modern military settings. More specifically, when they're portrayed in a (somewhat, anyways) realistic manner. (Arma 2, Arma 3, Black Hawk Down, etc.)

Strong characters. I can overlook a weak overall plot if I like the characters a lot.

Other then that, I like high fantasy and sci-fi. Things set in the real world usually don't appeal to me, unless they have some element of fantasy injected into it(like Harry Potter)

I also enjoy a good romance subplot.

For video games specifically, the more customization, the better. I prefer open world, but it's not a deal breaker. I usually gravitate to things with RPGs elements in them.
