HORSE-PONY RELATIONS THREAD

This entire thread is dedicated to the discussion of how Earth horses (including actual ponies) and Equestrian ponies will interact with each other.

 

The following fictional/mythological species of horse will also be included here: Houyhnhnms, Greek pegasi, classical unicorns (the bigger ones with no magic on their horns), and Diomedes' mares.

 

 

Tell us, how will each of the five species of horse interact with the Equestrian ponies?

There are many horse figures that i tend to see as great examples that could resemble Earth Pony culture.

Great horses we have learned about are for example the Great Alexander's Horse Bucephalus. He was a horse that feared his own shade... i wonder what he would do with Princess Luna or Celestia...

Babieca El Cid's horse... was also a famous horse.

For some time i was thinking of creating a fic where Bucephalus, who allegedly descended from the mares of Diomedes, meets the MLP verse. What do you think? It would be a short one tho...

As for Pegasi they weren't a species i think in ancient mythology. Even the horses that guided Helios' chariot weren't winged. The only pegasus that was present to my knowledge in Greek mythology was the one Velerofon rode to kill a tyrant.

Now, I would like to reiterate that this entire thread is dedicated on how will actual horses and ponies treat the Equestrians, and vice versa?

 

Assuming a horse visits Equestria, or an Equestrian visits a horse farm, what do you think their relations will have?

 

Fear? Acceptance? Hostility? Or Friendship?

@@HorsesandMOARGaloar,Hmmm.... do you remember the horses from Saddle Arabia? They seem to resemble much the real horses so i'd say there might be some initial curiosity but general acceptance. At least to the extent a cultural difference would suggest.

Now, what about the "mythical species" (you need some internet research for this one": Houyhnhnms, Pegasi, Unicorns, and Diomedes' mares?

 

How will they treat Equestrian ponies, and how will they be treated in return?

Well, since most of the horses of mythology are ridden by people, the Equestrians would feel a little bemused, I should think.

 

There is a winged horse in Greek mythos; the Pegasus, ridden by Bellerophen in order to kill the Chimaera. Bellerophen got too proud, and tried to ride Pegasus to Olympus. The gods sent a fly to bite Pegasus; he threw Bellerophen who was lamed in his fall.

Houyhnhnms... i have no knowledge about them but i guess they would treat them at suspiciously... they would certainly oppose any violence on a general standard... on the other hand it depens... if they have any interest in their lands they might try to mess with them. But they generally don't have enough power to go against the Princesses. If the Princesses felt they had abused their position they might try to go against them and free the humans or whatever.

 

Pegasi

As i said pegasi are not unfamiliar in the mlp verse. Now how ponies or horses would react to them? Curiosity perhaps... but their general biology might be largely the same so i don't think there would be much problem there.

 

Unicorns

Unicorns are also likely the same... however i need to point out the populus of the unicorns and pegasi in general is something that is far less in even mythology and surely finding more of their own kind out there would baffle them at least. But it would generally spark some curiosity... Unless assumptions go and spark hostilities and thus be the cause of all f@*k ups...

 

and Diomedes' mares?

As for those mares they appear to be man-eating monsters but it seems that Hercules tamed them... It sounds to me that if such mares can be tamed then the Equestrians should be able to somehow do the same. They don't seem to be without... logic? Although the horses and stuff seem to be more instictive... Unless communication through a spell or by travelling in the mlpverse could be achieved there would be a wee bit of trouble...
