" I don't know... But I must get back to the embassy to warn the others and inform the equestrian government and royalty of these findings. For now, Azarik ( the name of the griffon empire) wishes to hold this phenomenon at nizarim. They have ordered extra troops to garrison there and have ordered a curfew. Hopefully, this stalls it or eliminates it... Though I doubt the killings there will stop. I must go back to the embassy. As for that warrior, I don't know. But I'm sure we will all meet again. As for that young pony, don't worry. He won't concern himself with you. Much too young and innocent. Now if you'll excuse me..."

Kazas picked up the paper and followed the last line of instructions written upon it.

He crumpled it in his claw, and it burst into smoldering ash. Of course it was enough to gain the attention from others.

" if you're wondering how I did that, just consider it my dabbling in pyromancy. I'll see you around. Stay safe."

______________________

With that, kazas headed towards the embassy. But not before passing rax'mar

The dark surge he felt was staggering as he passed. Then, as he had completely passed, kazas's eyes let out a strange orange glow that no one could see, thankfully. However, what he said, everyone heard.

A flashback. A great Phoenix fighting with a powerful daemon.

" RESH!!!!!"

he closed his beak and snapped out of it, but it was too late. They all heard him.

" s-sorry... That's griffonic for rat... I don't like rats."

Of course that was a terrible lie. But they seemed to buy it. Except that archmage. He turned back around, and kept walking.

__________________

When he was out of ear shot, he began to talk.

" simorgh, what was that?!? You realize that what you did could have tipped off to the others that I'm more than just an ambassador?!?"

Simorgh: " I'm sorry kazas... But you must have felt it too. Powerful evil within that archmage's belongings... He has control but... For how long?"

Kazas: " who, or what, is a resh?"

Simorgh: " a powerful demon that long ago, threatened to decimate the mortal plane. Long ago, did we battle. For what seemed like an eternity. Ezerepth sent me to stop his madness, the last time a creator ever intervened in the affairs of mortals. After such a long fight, we both landed mortal blows on each other. To keep myself alive, I had to link my metaphysical existence to an object and combine my life force energy with that of a physical being. This sword is the catalyst, and members of your family have always served as the lifelink. And in exchange, well.... You know the power ive given you. Salvation or destruction... At the whim of the user."

Kazas: " so that's why you had an outburst."

Simorgh: " indeed. Resh was sent to Tartarus after the fight. Banished by a group, the daemontouched. They helped seal me into the sword as well, keeping me alive. If resh is in this plane, it took a truly mighty, magical force to bind him and even control him. Be wary of that archmage, kazas. He must be extremely powerful."

Kazas: " will do. No outbursts again, okay?"

Simorgh: " yes forgive me."

They headed to the embassy. To tell the news of what has transpired in the empire.

It wasn't too late when Lume realized the situation she got herself into: she was alone in the middle of Canterlot's main square, at night, with an unknown serial killer on the loose and with nowhere to hide or run to. If at least she had thought of a next step before recklessly fleeing from the shelter, but not even that came to her mind. While the mare slowly froze in fear, one of the ponies from the group across the plaza seemed to have briefly looked over in her general direction.

T...they noticed me! She thought, nearly panicking. Okay!... Okay... Just stay cool... and ask them about the thing... They look like nice fellows, heheh!... I have nothing to worry. She tried to calm herself down, even though all she could see in the dark were their shadowy silhouettes.

Shortly after, the griffon from the group dashed away after randomly yelling a strange name. She didn't give it too much importance at first, and began moving towards the ponies in the shadows. The shaky, heavy hoofsteps she made didn't help in making her approach any less suspicious.

Starting at the mare approaching them, Mirrorwing takes a subtle defensive stance, "Please leave te shadows, it makes you suspicious and weve already noticed you anyways" thinking to himself, well weve probably been noticed as well, ill have to look up that word reah, hmmm.

"...If you're sure." she replied and turned to continue forward, albeit a little uncertainly.

She covered herself once more with the hood of her cloak, brow furrowed in concern. As if their situation wasn't troubling enough, from what Shelevan had just told her, it seemed the root of their problem could stem deeper than just occult murders...In any case, the balance between planes was already fragile enough; the war had really jumbled the natural order of things quite a bit. Whoever was sacrificing the citizens of Canterlot was only making things worse.

She just couldn't seem to shake the feeling that they were in over their heads at this point.

~~~~~~~~~~~~`
The Echo Chamber is empty, save for two mares sitting on either end of a great, marble table. The chandelier's fire has long since gone out, and the only source of light in the spacious room is a small, dimly glowing lantern at the table's center. Both are completely silent, and the air is thick with tension.
"They certainly handled that better than expected." says the pegasus, orchid colored eyes narrowed sternly.
"They're the most trusted out of all of our disciples; I'd expect nothing less from them." the reply is clipped, and it is clear that the unicorn mare has other things on her mind.
The moment Siobhan had seen the runes, she'd known that there wasn't much she or her sister could do. She'd lost count of how many times she'd cursed herself over the past hour. How could either of them not notice the signs? In hindsight it was all so clear! Yet here she sat, staring down at crumpled sheet of parchment filled with hastily scribbled runes. If only they'd been quicker...maybe they could have stopped them before they'd truly begun. But, she supposed, it was no use now. The deed was done and they could only stand by, handing the reigns over to another to let Fate take its course.
The runes spelled the the end- the total and complete annihilation- of Equestria.
"There's nothing we can do." she whispers it quietly, eyes closed, as if praying for some sort of forgiveness.
"Aye.."
Princess Celestia had been right. They couldn't hold back destiny forever.
Kazaa headed back to the embassy, messege in mind. The others would not take the news he had to bring well. But it was better than leaving them in the dark. Nightfall was fast approaching. He showed his crest to the royal griffonic guard, and entered the embassy, a somewhat grand building, three stories tall, made of marble and carvings of important figures, both equestrian and azariken. Three flags flew in front of the embassy. The one on the left, the griffonic flag, black with orange stars circling a red griffon head. On the right, the equestrian flag. And in the middle, a flag depicting emperor Raziak and princess celestia shaking claw and hoof together. For equestria's aid in the griffonic reunification war years ago, the empire made a promise to equestria to come to aid it whenever aid was needed. Kazas remembered, and smiled. New friends, he had made here. All the more reason to protect Equestria as fervantly as Azarik.
He went in, and called for everyone to meet in the main living room. He explained the situation. And when he finished, silence. And then panic.
From the crowd of ambassadors and guards alike:
" how!?!? How could this happen?!?"
" by ezerepth, help nizarim..."
"These ritualistic murders are no doubt being done to insult ezerepth and the absolute!"
" what do we do when WE start getting murdered?!?"
" to hell with this, we all need to go back t-"
Kazas; " ENOUGH!!!!!"
The crowd stood silent. " I realize you are all afraid. Afraid for your families, afraid for your lives, and afraid that everything we've worked for to secure good standing with equestrian citizens will be lost, but running wont solve it! This Is an international problem now... But the equestrian leaders still do not know. I came here to inform you of the news, and now I'm about to depart to the castle to inform who I can of this! Please, calm down. At this point, there is nothing we can do but be careful and do our best to work with the equestrians to solve this situation!"
The crowd settled.
" thank you all for listening. That's all I needed to say. Orders are to continue as usual but be cautious. If we start slipping up... Blood will be spilled, and believe me when I say that both countries' presses would LOVE an article to write about where ambassador blood was spilt on foreign soil."
They dispersed, grumbling and worried, to their rooms. Kazas left the embassy that night, heading out to the castle. He whispered to himself.
" sorry saint... I'll do some fire tricks for you tomorrow morning. Promise."
He made his way to the castle. He was stopped by two equestrian guards.
Guard: " halt! What business have you here at canterlot castle?"
Kazas showed his sigil. " ambassador. S rank. Requesting entrance. I have intel on the ritual murders. Please. Let me pass."
Guard: " well okay. No funny business, you hear? Any suspicious activity and you could be kicked out of the castle... Or worse."
Kazas: " understood."
The guards let him through.
Once he was in the main hall alone, the sword started to glow.
Simorgh: " kazas, I sense that two beings... Ponies. Not a princess... Are either here or have been here recently. It might be best to find them. In the mean time, I'll let out a sensible wave of energy that they'd be able to detect... One has psychic abilities, if I'm not mistaken. I'll loosen it throughout the city. Only ponies who are powerful and who are allowed to be here will seek it out. The castle will be our filter. Hopefully... The right people feel it."
@magos ampharose
Simorgh loosed a powerful wave of spiritual energy through the city. Invisible to the naked eye, but felt by those with a strong connection to the far beyond. with that energy, a messege was given and it said:
" to those who art worthy and hath the power to listen... Heed the cry of a Phoenix lord. My vessel possesses valuable information for you. Please. Meet him in the castle of thine sovereign, and hopefully... Find a way to end the madness."
When simorgh finished, kazas chuckled and said, " vessel, huh. I thought we were closer than that, ha ha!"
Simorgh: " what? It was formal. As all invitations should be. Now, we wait. That bench over there on the wall?" That's where we should wait."
Kazas: " got it."
He took a seat, and waited. And hoped that whoever simorgh sent that message to, got it. Who knows, they might be here in the castle itself.
@,
Lume halted in place once one of the ponies in the shadows began speaking to her. Again, she slightly panicked for a few seconds, trying to figure out what to say in order to avoid any kind of problem.
"W-w-wait!" She stuttered, frightened. "I d-don't want any trouble!" She then continued moving closer, slowly, until she was in the field of vision of the group so they could see her better. "My name is Lume, I'm from Fillydelphia. I, uh... I just noticed you guys having a conversation over here, and if you don't mind, I just wanted to ask a few questions about the... um... recent murders that occurred in the town? You know?"
Stellar Nova wandered the abandoned streets of Canterlot. Her golden armour clinking as she walked, causing echoes to follower her in the darkness. A spear levitated at her side, you could never be too careful now, especially with all these murders springing up around the city. There was a crashing to her left, and she snapped her head towards it, wielding the spear dangerously over her head with her magic. Her heart thumped with adrenaline, as she gazed upon the scene. A stray cat had toppled over a few empty trashcans, it looked at Stellar with glowing eyes. Letting out a long meow.  Stellar sighed with relief.
 “You need to calm down,” She told herself, but she wasn’t convinced.
She’d reached the end of her patrolled, a narrow alley, ending in a large brick wall, so she spun around and doubled back on her route. The lampposts in this part of the city had long ago shorted out, and they were yet to be fixed. Business had slowed in the city, ever since the murders a lot of ponies worked as soon as it was light, and then returned home as soon as the sun began to go down. Ponies had even gone to Celestia to get rid of the night’s altogether. But of course, that would’ve never worked out. Stellar’s horn shone now, casting a yellow glow over the concrete pathway, and over dirty walls. Graffiti had sprung up recently, ominous tidings, and vague warnings. She glimpsed over one now, written in large red capitals. “He is coming for us all.” Stellar shook her head in dismay, what had the city become. Although she did not believe in the foreboding messages, she couldn’t help but shiver with superstition. Her patrol covered many of the back roads, and narrow alleys that most Guards preferred to stay away from. She’d actually volunteered to take the patrol, and she’d heard that before her the streets had been unpatrolled for quite some time. No murders had been committed on this side of the city, but there were rumours, a lot of talk that the next would go down here, not that Stellar listened to the rumours. Because that’s all they were, stories. A sudden gust of wind drew her out of her thoughts, it was getting colder now. Another cool breeze ruffled her neon blue mane. She brightened her light orb around her horn. She was glad that she knew a least a few spells that came in handy.  Thinking this, she saw a shadow flicker against the side of a shop, and then dart away into a side street.
“Hey you, stop!” She shouted as she broke stride to chase the fleeing shadow. It could’ve been nothing, but now you could never be too sure. She raised her spear above her head, ready for anything as she bounded after the figure in the night.
@@,
As the night processed on and no evidence of murders continued, nothing could be found of them. Although this irritated Shelevan, she knew that the city was only so big, and the hidden walkways and allies quite-
Suddenly, she was almost hurled backwards by a wave of psychic energy that enaminated from... the castle...?
"To those who art worthy, and hath the power to listen... Heed the cry of a Phoenix Lord. My vessel possesses valuable information for you. Please, meet him in the castle of thine sovereign, and hopefully... find a way to end the madness."
Her mind was racing. A Phoenix Lord? Here, in Equestria? The ones that were left were supposedly dormant in various temples across Equestria. Yet, the deep, harmonious voice sounded oh so familiar...
She rapidly recovered before turning to Kailith once again. "Did you hear that as well, my friend..?"
"Yes, I heard it...however I am not quite sure I can believe it.." she answered, voice strained.
Her gaze was fixed firmly on the castle, which was situated quite a distance away, lights flickering softly through its windows. Apparently, somewhere within those white, marble halls, was a Phoenix Lord; one who requested their immediate assistance. Well, whoever it was, they certainly had her attention.
"The message specifically stated that, whoever this is, they have information for us." she began, "Perhaps...we can trust them. In any case, we may as well go and meet them. We have to report to Celestia anyway..."
She then turned from the castle, fixing her gaze down the dark, cluttered alleyway. She snorted, eyes narrowed in frustration.
"I don't see us finding anything of use where we are now...we need that information."
Sitting on the bench, kazas waited ever so patiently. If anyone heard that, they'd surely come running. The fact that the castle acts as a filter of those who sensed the message worked well with simorgh's plan. Powerful, and with political pull. The perfect ponies to inform, as they could actually do something.
Simorgh: " it seems as though our two target receivers have picked up the wave of that energy. Good. Hopefully, that attracts them."
Kazas: " it will. If they are the least bit curious, they are already on their way to our location. I look forward to meeting them."
Simorgh: " as am I! But can I ask you a favor, kazas?"
Kazas: " anything, old friend. What is it?"
Simorgh: " I wish to make somewhat of a physical appearance for myself. May I draw upon a small amount of life energy to do so?"
Kazas: " of course. When they arrive, feel free to."
Kazas sat there in silence after that conversation. He noticed an unlit torch above him. The hall was dark, and it would be nice to have light. Kazas took one claw and lifted it, fire coming from his claw tips. Phoenix fire. One of the great gifts of being a knight of the Phoenix lord. That, and a couple of other things, too. He lit the torch and dispersed the flame from his claw. He sat back down,
Awaiting the worthy ones' arrival.
@@@,
Shelevan narrowed her eyes for a moment, lost in thought, before nodding. "Agreed; let us move towards the castle and see if we might find this mysterious vessel." Closing her eyes and letting her spirit-sight guide her, she noticed a warm, ember glow coming from the castle... but not originating from the castle itself. Odd.
Slowly progressing out of the valley and into the streets, she examined the lights that made up the souls of the ponies in the area. The general underlying current of the area was fear, yet there was a stream of hope and faith underlying the fear- hope in a better future, and faith in their leaders to deal with the problem. As she guided her close friend down the primary road, she took a second to gaze at the souls of Celestia and Luna- two of the brightest souls that have ever existed. It almost blinded her, seeing them with her spirit-gaze even at so far a distance. No wonder these ponies had hope! Such souls were well up to the responsibilities.
Wandering her way towards the castle, she rounded a corner to be utterly enveloped by what could be the equivalent of the light of a warm sun- full of benevolence, ancient and wise, yet she sensed a piece of tranquility and... weariness?
Allowing the sight to fade from her eyes, she gazed upon... the Griffon Ambassador, Kazas. She remembered now- the vessel of the ancient Lord of the Sun, Simorgh. She approached him subtly and, when Kailith had arrived, she bowed. "I am honored by the presence of your warmth once again, Lord Simorgh." She stood up and smiled lightly, this time, directing her words to Kazas. "Hello, Kazas. It has been a long time since our last meeting..."
I'm positive the portal has changed, so I will have to go adventuring for it again, but, assuming that I find it..."
It was then he had an idea. He could use another mind with him.
"Say, it seems like I might be able to trust a mare like you. Would you be interested in coming with me? I have a few errands to run here, then I'll be gone. If you wish to tag along, I wouldn't be opposed to it..."
I think that a case like this needs to be of everypony's concern, not kept in secrecy. I'll try to do my own investigation and see what conclusion I'll come to in the end, simply because I want to help." Lume spoke, confident.
"But well, thanks a lot for the information anyway. I do hope we meet again somewhere." She concluded with a polite bow - that Pegasus seemed somewhat important after all - and watched as he flew away into the evening's skies.
"Nyasha..." She said, pensive, attempting to imagine the city the Unicorn had described. Only pronouncing the name was already magical somehow, and visiting an alternate dimension like that would really be an unique experience.
Lume snapped out of her daydreaming and stared at the gray stallion, astonished by his request. "C-come with you? To Nyaska??" She asked, distractedly saying the city's name wrong.
"Wait, wait... B-but how can I trust you? I don't even know your name yet! And, and... What about the murders? I mean, of course I would like to go to Miasta, I've never been there before, but, but... You know... Priorities, you know?" She stammered, trying to decide whether to continue on with the search or trust the pony and venture herself on this unknown Nyasha place, which should be an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Kazas opened his eye, and who did he see? An old friend, of course! The world was small after all! Shelevan, AKA shadowseer. The most powerful psychic In this world and the next, indeed a title righteously earned. He stood up, and came to greet her and her friend. " it has been awhile, old friend! I'm sorry that circumstance wouldn't let us meet in a more friendly place and in a better situation, but it appears as though fate would not have it..."
He nodded to kalith. " its nice to meet you, as well. may i ask your name in a moment? i must make a physical manifestation for simorgh."
Kazas backed up and shed his cloak, revealing full leather armor and the black and ebony hewn sword, simorgh's sword.
His eye started to glow orange, and he lifted his claw to his side. An orange fire appeared. As kazas put more energy into it, it turned to a blood red flame, which crackled with ferocity. Then, he converted it to a white flame, and stabilized it. The flame burned slowly, but brightly in his claw. Finally, he made the flame take shape. It was a white Phoenix with white and silver flames engulfing it. A white orb appeared from the sword, and entered the Phoenix. It was simorgh's soul. The Phoenix came to life, and revealed warm, orange eyes, and stretched its wings. It began to talk.
Simorgh: " ahhhhhh, you don't know how good it feels to stretch out after a few millennia or so of being bound! And shevelan, you don't have to be so formal, not so humble. We are friends, after all! Besides, I'm not exactly a deity, haha! I'm as slayable as any other being. Or at least, WAS slayable until I was bound. I'm sorry that I can't greet you in my normal form. But if I were to appear in entirety, it would cause.... Quite a scene. And I see you brought a friend with you. It is nice to meet you!"
Simorgh perched on top of kazas's shoulder.
Simorgh: " now that formalities are out of the way.... I assume you know why we are here."
@,
((OOC: Which is kind of funny, 'cause Lume doesn't normally trust others that easily.  :P))
Once Rax'Mar extended out his eerie claw-like foreleg - which somehow she hadn't noticed until then - for a hoofshake, Lume was startled and took a couple of steps back. After a few seconds of contemplation and amazement, she hesitatingly held out her right hoof, accepting his greeting. "V-very nice to meet you... Archmage..."
As if his spectral-like limb wasn't interesting enough, listening to his talk about demonologists, somnologists, the City of Dreams - as he called it - and everything else really did spark the mare's interest. Furthermore, knowing that these very same rituals took place in this other dimension, tagging along with Rax'Mar on his quest sounded like a win-win situation. Though she was still uncertain about crossing worlds with somepony she'd just met, she thought it was a risk worth taking. After all, curiosity was a feeling that spoke much louder than her common sense.
"Fine then. I'll join you... If you insist~" Lume opened up a bright smile and her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm - the typical face she made when she just couldn't wait to learn and explore something new.
"Lead the way!! We're going to Ny... Nya... Nyasha? Yeah, Nyasha!!"
On his way to the castle, Mirrorwing noticed something unusual, the griffon drom before, with what looked like a bird burning bright enough to reflect off his feathers, and the two cloaked figures he. "Damn, i dont have time for this, ill have to send for a lookut now great" he said, "lookouts, great half the time they cant sneak around". He keeps arguing with himself about it until he reaches his post, and sends a stealthy, black colored pegasi to watch the group for them. "Dont get caugt, i dont know who or what they are and want, for all i know that was a murder i witnessed, and make no attack, remember that griffon will probably rip you to shreds in an instant".
So, people have mistaken me for a nice guy. I'm not. Don't like it? Tough. Your loss.
@@,
Shelevan was slightly confused and humbled by this statement. She hadn't figured out why it was here yet, so the inquiry that he made she couldn't make sense of. Taking a breath, she closed her eyes for a moment and breathed out, while allowing her magic to copy and learn information from around her- most namely, from Kazas- she could not and did not try to read the surface thoughts of Simorgh's mind- and from Kailith, although she also picked up tidbits of facts from local ponies. "Murders and rituals of an occult sort..." she said quietly before opening her eyes again- but not before glancing at the nearby shadows, from a pony whose mind she had stumbled upon. "We are being watched..." She stated in a low voice. "Perhaps it would be best to be quick and quiet, or to move to a new more private location, although I sense no evil in this pony's heart."
((Perhaps you should not send stealth ninjas after psychics in the middle of the dark all alone. Well played, though- you didn't know and acted accordingly.))
@@Lume WMj,
"Excellent! We're off to a great start." Shaking her hand firmly, Rax'Mar winked and took a step back. "Now, it is quite late in the evening, and I must discover some place to rest for the evening- that tavern over there looks like a good spot, yes?" He smiled lightly. "Well, if you wish to continue your research, by all means, go right ahead. I shall be with you once again in a few hours. Meet me outside tomorrow- there's a patio that I find quite interesting where we might eat our morning meal together." He waved his clawed limb in a gesture of farewell before walking off in the direction of the tavern, celebrating on the inside. A pony to travel with! A pony to meet and greet and maybe even make friends with! He was quite the fan of sudden interaction, and, as it turned out, his instinct was correct. Hardly waiting until morning, he quickly rented the room for the night before trudging up and, after throwing his pack down, fell asleep on the bed almost immediately after laying down.
Kazas placed a claw on his sword. He spoke. " okay. But if he tries to lay one hoof on one of us, you realize what must happen in order to keep us safe.... Though I doubt he'd do anything brash... Although... Every spy has a master..." All of this was said in a hushed voice, of course.
Simorgh spoke then.
Simorgh: " perhaps there is a place in the castle more fit to discuss such information. Would you both kindly lead the way?"
Kalith tensed slightly, eyes scanning fleetingly over the several dark corners around them and wondering which one held the spy. She found herself thanking several deities, not for the first time, that Shelevan's psychic senses were so sharp. Shelevan had said that, apparently, whoever was watching them had no evil in their heart.
But, in times such as these, one could never be too sure.
She closed her eyes and focused until she felt herself sink into a semi-meditative, drawing the energy from her body to the center of her forehead, where her third eye would be. Upon opening it, she immediately began seeking out a room without any other soul present. They would never be completely secure, but anything was better than the lone hallway they currently stood in.
((gahh sorry for my absence yesterday; I had an appointment with my eye doctor. I just now started wearing contacts and they are screwing with me.  I really didn't feel like doing anything other than sitting in a dark room and hoping the head ache would go away.))
Mirrorwing paced the halls as was customary for him, scanning for anything suspicious when he caught a glimpse of his scout. "Well" he whispered, "if h Ev1 is still here, then they should be as well" quietly signaling his scout to follow the targets if anything should go wrong, he walks around thw corner to see the cloaked figures and a familiar looking griffon. Makeing no attempt to hide his presence he calls out to them, "Well well well, isnt this unusual? An ambassador and two suspicious individuals, during a time when murders are both common and exotic."
