gaming Why did the UNSC not bomb Balaho in Halo?

Right. In Halo. The Grunts home planet, Balaho, has an atmosphere consisting primarily of methane. However, methane is an extremely flammable substance that can ignite even near the simplest fire. So why did the UNSC not fly a ship to Balaho and fire a Napalm Bomb? It would ignite the homeworld. Killing the grunts and causing a massive blow to the covenant(Even though the grunts are weak). What do you think?

I could see how that would cripple the Covenant but you got to understand that there may have been multiple factors from keeping the UNSC from bombing the planet. Considering they may not have known of its location, they probably couldn't spare the resources to do so, they most likely had some sort of fleet, most likely a small one safeguarding their home world, so sending one sole ship wouldn't get the job done. Most of the war was primarily us on the defensive, we never got too actually see Sanghelios(not sure if that's spelled right) the home world of the elites till after the war was over. Plus, alot of grunts were either serving on Covenant fleets so I think it just wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Even if their home planet was bombed, the grunts would simply repopulate. The Covenant actually had a grunt population problem before the war because their version of population control for grunts was war. Grunts reproduce like rabbits.

So, from what I'm reading, you are asking Why didn't the UNSC Destroy the Grunts homeworld.    TBH, and my ex-gf would say this, but..................they're too cute to be killed off the series.  With me, I actually find them quite interesting enemies. Don't care how short they are or how dumb they are, they tend to be good targets.  And funny ones for that matter, especially when you kill an Elite, they run screaming, and also when you stick them, their screaming and yelling is hilarious, :D.

Apparently Methane needs air to ignite. So another problem would be creating a missile filled with air. And then napalming it.

Other than not knowing where the Covenant's home planets were, the UNSC were probably also tied up fighting the Covenant at home. As we know, the Covenant pretty much brought the war to humanity and not the other way around, so they were probably too busy fighting the Covenant on Earth and other human planets to worry about doing a counterattack in Covenant homespace.

Yeah sure! Waste resources on the itty-bitty Grunts. It's not like the Elites, Brutes, Jackals and definently not the Hunters are serious threats!

And there's the problem of actually finding the planet.

I dunno, man, I'm sure the UNSC loses a lot of men when those little buggers decide to go suicidal and run into a crowd of marines with plasma grenades armed. Removing the Grunts out of the Covenant army would probably have been a major blow the Covenant as I'm pretty sure Grunts make up a pretty big portion of their forces, even if they're short in stature and brain power.
