gaming Why do I suck at the Souls series?

I know at the end of the day these are just games and it's useless to complain over them. But why am I an inconsistent Demons's/ Dark Souls player? Because my brother is above pro level at these games. He has beaten Dark Souls literally over 50 times and is even getting passed the daunting difficulty of Dark Souls II. Now a veteran, please explain to me.. How can I beat the flamelurker without any tricks in 5 minutes, yet die to everyone else? The Flamelurker is still considered a hard boss. He's up there with the maneaters, four kings, Artorias and Manus. The bosses from Demons's can rival it's sequel. So can someone explain why I suck?

Well, I don't think it is possible to explain why you're bad at this game.

Maybe it is just not the right type of game for you.

If it makes you feel better, those games have a reputation of being hard.

Trust me; I suck at em too. Don't feel bad.

They're made for a different type of gamer. I can do well on games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, and The Wicther 2, but Dark Souls will kick me so hard in the ass it's not funny.

That doesn't mean I'll stop trying at them though.

I heard the Witcher series can be seriously difficult as well in comparison to Souls

When I stop finding a game "funny", that is usually when I stop playing it...

It is difficult, though part of that is because of the less-than-stellar tutorial. Once you get by that it's not punishingly difficult. Yeah, it's hard, but once you get your strategies in line and learn how to fight with your weapons and your various tricks; it's manageable and VERY fun!

Souls, in contrast, is punishingly difficult. It's made for the patient gamer who is willing to die to learn the nuances of the game.

Honestly, the Witcher's difficulty does not compare to that of Souls.

When I stop finding a game "funny", that is usually when I stop playing it...

I can agree to an extent, though Dark Souls requires a different mindset. I go in knowing I'm gonna get pissed off easily and that allows me to manage my anger somewhat. XD

Flamelurker is...well don't feel bad if you are having a hard time beating him, I know plenty that get mad at him, especially when he gets down to 33% and goes berserk mode. Even now I still can't avoid his fire blast attack that well, especially in berzerk mode since he starts attacking without letting up.

As for the thing on Artorias and Manus though...a good shield and light rolling is your friend, all I can say. It's not you suck so much but more or less you are entering the fight with either the wrong gear or mindset on how to handle the boss.

haha u r just a n00b lol get l33t

I believe that the Souls series has a reputation for being soul crushingly hard hehe see what I did thar, so you can't expect to master it overnight.

As to why you're bad... I dunno, maybe it's not the game for you, or you need more time with it? I don't think anyone else here can explain why.

Just go to Gamefaqs and choose the walkthrough with the largest filesize. Problem solved.

Knowledge is power in the Souls series. The more you know, the easier the game becomes. Learn the mechanics, learn what spells and weapons are useful and which ones are a waste of time to upgrade, learn enemy placement and boss strategy...there's little in the series that can't be beaten with the good ol' shield up and circle around strategy if you have a good enough shield. In Demon's Souls the Steel Shield and Purple Flame Shield are your friend. In Dark Souls, the Eagle Shield and Black Knight Shield, if you're lucky enough to get the latter.

If you can beat the Flamelurker you can beat everything the souls games have to offer, I guarantee it. Doesn't mean you wont die a lot, no one is a Dark Souls / Demon's souls expert on their first playthrough, but it doesn't mean that you suck either, it's just part of the game. Sometimes it gets to a point where it's so frustrating you're not having fun, I've had my fair share of those moments in the souls games, but don't give up! Everything can be beaten. It's all about patience and percerverance

Are you playing Demon's Souls right now?

The Souls game is a tough series to peg when it comes to stuff like that. It might be that your reflexes are not fast enough, it could be your knowledge of the mechanics are insufficient, it's possible you might have built your character horribly, or perhaps you're just not catching onto the different enemy's "tells". Is there anything you specifically have a problem with, such as certain types of enemies or a particular area?

If you're getting your butt kicked across the board, it's important to realize that not all enemies can be beaten using the same strategy; it's not a surprise that you can defeat the Flamelurker easily yet have trouble with other parts of the game. A big part of the Souls series is making sure you have the right tools for the job.

Flame Lurker from Demon Souls? I killed it with magic, on a first play though he drops pretty quick to it if your built right, think i used one of the stronger versions of soul arrow, he would flinch every time he was hit so i could basically fire off another before he had a chance to move again, took 6-7shots i think to kill him.

was a long time ago tho... :P

one of the best ways to beat the souls series is to craft gear and weapons suited for each boss. that way you can cushion any hits to take and hit like a freight train often enough that you'll take the bosses down even if you make a mistake or two.

No worries.  It just takes some practice.  I had the same problem with the Mortal Kombat Series, but the Soul Series, its somewhat easier, :)
