The only game I even wish to put on the SSD is The Sims 3 and Expansion Packs... There's no way that would fill up my 256GB SSD. I'm a bit frustrated that I'm not supposed to put games on it... Why even have paid for it?

As of now, SSDs are just a waste of money for impatient people that want things to load faster. Whoever told you having one is important kind of scammed you a bit. 

 

I'd honestly avoid them like the plague until the prices bottom out on them because they're not very cost-effective at all.

I love Nintendo too I think the Wii U was kiiiiiiiind of a mistake but I'll have to see. I'd love to see Nintendo have the same respect it did back when it had the 64. I think the GameCube was the beginning of Nintendo's road to the being the kid who wears the "Dunce" hat and eats paste...

 

Could be worse though. At least the Wii U isn't running Internet Explorer! xD

You can pick up a quality 240/256 GB for about $100 now. You're telling me you can get 3 TB of HDD for that kinda money. I hear you, but it's hardly the same thing. Friend told me three years ago, why don't you have an SSD? I already boot in 15 seconds, why should I spend the money?

 

Spent $150 for 80 GB and now I have SSDs in every system I own. I even made the mistake (?) of swapping an SSD into my mother's laptop, then decided to repurpose it for mine. She asked me why it was so slow, and long story short I had to buy her another one. My fault, I guess.

Anyway, Envy, enjoy your new PC! Might seem complicated right now, but set aside a few hours each day to learn things about it and it'll quickly become one of the most useful things you own.

It's under powers oh big deal, sure we don't got the best video processing fx game memory chip do hickies what ever is put in a pc, but let me tell you we have fun games and many more fun things to come. SSD's are more durable than HDD's in that they can take a lot more shock during operation because they don't have any moving parts, but for any drive that is doing A LOT of reading/writing, an SSD will crap out fairly quickly. 

 

Also, an SSD is pretty much useless for someone who creates videos or music. Those files can get pretty big. I keep a lot of lossless audio on my PC so my music library is about 40 GB by itself.

You're right, NAND flash do have finite numbers of writes they can take, but even consumer-grade SSDs available at retail have been shown to take an unbelievable amount of punishment, over 1 petabyte worth of writes. In the following experiment, the 840 Pro is still going after 1500TB of writes. For reference, Samsung conservatively rates it at 75TB, which is still significantly more than many people would EVER write to it in its lifetime.

If you're building a rig for professional video editing, there's an argument for reliability and durability and you're probably willing to pay that premium. Samsung and SanDisk make ultra-high endurance consumer drives for that sort of thing and this guy did just that:

With regards to having a fast scratch disk for video editing, the advantages are obvious. For long term media storage, you still can't beat the price/storage of mechanical platters, but while you're working, a quality SSD beats those spinning pieces of rust any day of the week.

Meh, as it now I rather spend $60 on a decent 1TB(or $100 on however large a mechaincal you can get for that) and deal with load times as of now so I can put my money into the GPU and CPU. 

 

I'm a patient man when it comes to load times.

@@Lunatic Envy, Hmm...I hadn't realized how much of a beating they could take....Well I know my 840 Pro isn't living up to its full potential and I'm okay with that, but this has enlightened me some. I still don't see myself SSD-ing some of my games though. I still get good load times with my WD Caviar Black. But seriously thanks for that. I guess I'll probably end up spilling water on my SSD before I wear out the NANDs xD

My friend put his 840 Pro into a USB enclosure and uses it with his Wii U over a USB 2.0 link as a storage drive. Full potential indeed.

Speaking of Steam sales, I recommend http://www.cheapshark.com/ for keeping track of sales across different digital stores, because unlike consoles, you actually have a choice which store you wish to get digital downloads from.

 

Also, don't forget the indie bundles and free Steam key giveaways: http://www.bundlehq.com/ in case you ever wanted to buy tons of games on the cheap to pad your Steam library for no other reason than to watch the list get longer.

It is done, I finally went and loaded my pre-paid up and ordered my stuff(I hope I got the right cables, my drives didn't come with any) My monitor came with a video cable and audio cable, and my GPU came with it's power cord.
