Not all Steam games have achievements. As an example, Kerbal Space Program has no achievements.

To be honest just getting to orbit is an achievement in its own right.

Hmm, thinking about getting KSP. I've always loved outer space and I'd probably spend hours on it. I'd rather wait for it to go on sale on steam, though.

It often goes on sale for around $16, but honestly, with the amount of content it gives you both in stock and through modding it's worth the full price.

Fuck, I don't have the money right now, I'll just have to wait for another paycheck. I get paid tomorrow, but I got other shit to take care of.

I think they should make a PC that has the hardware to play games, but not much else. Like a PC made SPECIFICALLY for gaming. One you can hook up to your TV out of the box and comes with a pretty good controller (and a keyboard and mouse). You would turn it on and after its load it up you would be able to download games from Steam onto. No extra stuff or apps, only Steam. That would be my gaming PC. I would just use another, cheaper computer for the other stuff like typing and surfing the internet. Im sorry if im making no sense.

The steambox is kind of like that.

Well that'd defeat the whole point of a PC because a PC is meant to do more than just gaming. But what you seem to be describing are Steam Machines.

Honestly the only ones worth it are the Alienware one (surprisingly) and the Syber one. Everything else is either overpriced or has terrible price:performance.

One of things I worry about the Steambox is its Linux based, meaning a lot of Windows only Steam games (Skyrim, for example) wont work on it.

What console do you own currently?

You can always install Windows on it, but that'd require installing drivers which can take hours to get and then install.

I'd recommend knowing exactly what hardware is in it (for example, the motherboard on the Syber Steam Machine A is the MSI A88XI AC, dunno what model R9 270X yet but honestly that's a pretty great GPU for $500) before downloading the drivers so you'd know what to get, and putting them on a portable storage device like a flash drive to make taking them to the machine for installation easier. But once you get them installed then really the only driver that you have to update is the GPU one, and even then it's mostly optional.

I own a PS2 and 360. I play some games on PS4, but my brother owns that system.

I hope there are PCs out there that are low priced (relatively) that can play games atleast at console level (PS4/ Xbox One) graphics MINIMUM. I dont want to have to pay more than $600

You like Skyrim, right? The 360 version is probably the best console version, and if you don't care about mods, than it should be good.

I have the 360 version, and beat it countless times. I would eventually want to get the PC version because i want to try out the mods.

Also, like I said, any good low price (not cheap) PCs that go around $300 to $600? I dont want a high end PC, just one that can play all games at atleast low to medium graphics with no hiccups

Here's something I threw together for someone on YouTube a few days ago. You have to build it, but as I said, watching the PC you put together from parts boot up for the first time is a very, very satisfying feeling. Building isn't even that hard anymore, either.

I grew nervous during my first build too. I don't have the greatest dexterity ever, and I built it a month after I had surgery done on my arm. It works just fine.

I would like a Steam Box, or more generally a small tower, as a relatively portable PC I can bring with me during times I'm staying somewhere else for a long period of time. Not so much a laptop due to limitations on upgrading and increased cost (unless laptops became as modular as PCs).

i guess my apprehension for building PCs is im afraid i might mess something up.

I was building PC's when I was 8 back in the mid-90's, back in the days when Windows 95 was still new and you had to use glorified DOS commands to install the drivers for your mouse, let alone video card, sound card, optical drive (if you could afford one)...

PC building nowadays is simplified so a 5 year old (such as JayzTwoCents' daughter) can build one as long as you remember one thing: RTFM - Read The Frelling Manual.

With the SteamBox, sure it comes prebuilt with SteamOS (Debian-Linux based via Ubuntu-Linux), but getting a copy of Win7 or Win8.1 and installing it over SteamOS turns it into a regular Windows box as the hardware in a SteamBox is just regular desktop PC hardware in a fancy special case.

Heck, I can take my BeastRig (specs in the PC Specs thread) and turn it into a SteamBox by simply installing SteamOS alongside Windows 7.

I don't know if I'd recommend that build. Any PC over 300$ should have a dedicated GPU.

This is my recommendation http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ggd399 510$ and the possibility to add a cooler and do some overclocking.

I'ts a fairly similar build, but I split up your CPU for a cheaper CPU + a dedicated GPU combo.

Also the PSU is quite expensive. Yes it is 80+ Gold, but the higher price will probably not pay of in the long run given the higher price. Unless extreme overclocking is intended.

However, I agree that building a PC seems like a bigger task than it actually is. Imagine it like building Lego, except it's 7 weird looking parts and some cables

You even get a manual for how to build it. And if you still struggle you can get a lot of help from the internet, and possibly this forum.

Have you guys heard of https://www.g2a.com/ ?

They sell steam codes for extremely discounted prices. I bought Metro: Last Light for $8. It's really legit, my brother buys from it all the time. I was kind of skeptical, but I gave it a try.

Ehhh... I'd rather avoid them, they have been involved in numerous shady things like selling stolen keys and poor support for those affected by stolen keys. GreenManGaming, meanwhile, is legit.
