Found out I can't do shit to fix my Mom's(new) PC because they put one of those crappy 1.4GHz Dual-Cores in it and it can barely browse Facebook.

The only hope now is that it's NOT running dual-channel and I can chuck another ram-stick in there.

My last desktop (a HP a6010n) had a 1.8GHz dual-core, and here I thought that was bad...

This is bad, it feels laggy just browsing the Internet. I'll never complain about a decent Pentium again after using that thing.

But have you ever tried browsing in Chrome on a 1.8GHz Atom Z2670?

No, but I've screwed about the computer and played some ancient games on a Pentium II.

...really?

No modern desktop CPU should be so underpowered to have trouble with Facebook. If an iPhone or an iPad can do it, even the shittiest desktop CPU of the same generation should be able to do it.

My guess would be that it's all the bloatware manufacturers put on PCs. That slows things down a ton.

Well, I just got a Logictech F310 Gamepad, mostly because I wanted to get something to use with my computer for those games that are just to awkward to play with a keyboard and mouse. it's not the greatest controller ever I know, but it works, and I got it for relatively cheap (like 12 bucks) so I guess thus far I'm happy. Finally had something to play Sonic Generations with ;p.

Nope, I did a complete check of it when we got it(even swapped the crap it came with for AVG free)

Adding some little "fun" mods that don't cheat or anything to Skyrim.

I got one that re-does the bookshelves so they limit based on size instead of amount of books and actually use all the space(it also lets you sit other things on shelves)

I got another that puts a little trophy room with an enchanting table in the basement of Breezehome.

Hey guys, I plan on getting a new CPU [either a 4690k or a 4790k] sometime in '15, and I was wondering, along with the CPU, should I go for 16GB of RAM? I pretty much only use this for gaming and some light video editing, so I might not need it, but BF4 tends to be a RAM hog in Conquest, and I'm sure games will start to use more RAM soon. So yes or no?

Well, do you need the extra threads of an i7?

I could always OC the I5, but I was asking for either 16GB or staying with 8.

I have 8GB, and can barely live with it due to my workload. I don't know yours, but I'd say 16 just to be safe.

You're probably fine with 8. Remember that you can always add more if you need to. Most desktop mobos have 4 memory slots, so you could get 2x 4GB now and add another 2x 4GB or 2x 8GB later.

Alright, now to decide for I7 or I5. From what I've seen the I7's have barely less CPU usage [around 5 percent in most cases] then the I5's, so I probably don't need an I7.

I have an i5 as well, and for light video editing it does the job. Of course, an i7 would be better, but for a light video editing workload (and by light I mean 1080p/60FPS video footage), an i5 is fine.

Now I have two people saying opposite things about RAM......now what xD

Think I'll stay with 8. Thanks anyways, guys.
