ggg-2 3,553 October 10, 2014 Share October 10, 2014 It seems that a majority of Alicorn Twilight stories consist of......said stories taking place thousands of years into the future, and Twilight (i'm not even kidding here) more often than, visiting her friends' graves. what's with all the immortal twilight stories? what part of "Twilight won't outlive her friends" don't people get? 2 Don't be a nerd. Koukatsu 5,899 October 10, 2014 Share October 10, 2014 Probably along the idea that Celestia has a minimum 4 digit age. She's RULED for OVER a thousand years, she's even older still. Red Cedar 1,408 October 10, 2014 Share October 10, 2014 Keep in mind a lot of those stories were probably written before the producers came out and said she wasn't immortal. As it is, I'm in the middle of writing something along those lines, but not quite. 1 Roleplaying OC: Red Cedar - Cast Character: Applejack
Oblivion 20,271 October 13, 2014 Share October 13, 2014 Hm, wow wonder if the idea for this topic was sparked by my 2 cents in the "least favorite head canons" thread? One can wonder. Anyway, I really don't have as much of a problem with people making fan fics involving Twilight being immortal, just because that (fan FICS) is really just what the name implies, it's just simply a fictional story that was written to take place in a fantastical land of talking cartoon ponies. However, what does get on my nerves a bit is when people go as far as actually believing that Immortal Twilight is canon just because she is an alicorn without any factual bases to back it up, and without using what we already know about alicorns to disprove the immortal Twilight idea. Quite honestly though I actually enjoy reading some of those tear jerking fan fics, mostly because I tend to separate fan fics from the show entirely.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,800 October 13, 2014 Share October 13, 2014 I think the reason is due to the fact that there are stories about everything when it comes to this show. The immortality idea was put out there the moment people started asking, so no doubt stories about that are going to crop up. Also, it is an idea that many don't like apparently, so that could actually spark interest as well. Like 'nobody likes this? I will see what I can do with it!', that's one way it seems like.

So, just because we've had confirmation that it won't happen in the show, means no one should write fanfiction about it? The tragic immortal doomed to watch others around them age and die is a rather powerful concept, so it's natural that writers would want to explore it. 1 Happy minion of The Fabulous One! Like @Sunny Fox said, it's a powerful concept. But, to be fair, I can see what you're getting at. It might be getting a tad overused... Ah, but if there is one fan work I like based on immortal Twilight, it's got to be BlackGryph0n's 'Faster Than You Know' song. :comeatus:

The themes that a writer can tackle with the double edged sword of immortality are vast. For example, the old saying "you can never go home" takes on a more poignant meaning when you account for eternity. It doesn't matter to me if the setting is Equestria or Olympus ... it is worth exploring.

Flutter's lover <3 8,206 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 A lot of people seem to like writing semi/full on grimdark stories about characters living and the death of others. I honestly don't get it. Immortal or not. Look back to the previous 4 seasons, who has"died"? No one, because it's a kids show and death generally isn't part of a kids show. Sorry, but I like MLP and the fandom for the basis of what it was built upon....friendship and relatable pastel coloured ponies. Not about a Character reminiscing and being sad about her lost friends. You've never seen Celestia or Luna visit the graves of their long lost friends and/or relatives, aside from Celestia when she talked about banishing Luna to the moon, but that's different...Luna isn't' dead, she was banished. Yes, Celestia also had a flashback of her and her sister a couple times, but there was still no death involved. Yea, sure it's a powerful thing about the stories, but ehh...I'd rather not read stories like that, that revolve around death, for canon characters at least. That said I haven't read any fan-fics as of late. Yes, I should probably separate canon from fan fics, but it's hard not to, because they're still in their pony form and have the same names/personalities, still are in Equestria...etcetera. I'm in love and obsessed with her, she's given me shyabetes. *Hnnnng* Yellow Pink Squee Blogs | Ask one of Fluttershy's biggest fans | Official Fluttershy fanclub page! nonespark 17 October 15, 2014 Share October 15, 2014 I've heard it theorized that Celestia is losing her powers and so chose a student to raise and train to become responsible and skilled enough to rule her kingdom if the time comes that she is no longer strong enough to do so. And that when Twilight and her friends became connected to the Elements of Harmony, Celestia and Luna lost their connection to it. Since alicorns all seem to be "immortal", or at least having such extended lifespans as to live for a couple thousand years, Twilight would then achieve this. But because the rest of the mane six have also been connected with the Elements through her, they are given extended life as well. So if this theory were to be true, those fics of her visiting their graves would still be bullshit lmao.
