I think we can call this now... the 1980s are our 1950s. Just like the baby boomers fueled a 50s nostalgia trip in the mid-80s, kids like me (pushing 40) are fueling an 80s nostalgia trip in the mid 10s. Checking the roster to see who all's been called-up from the "decade of excess," I see STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, the CARE BEARS, MY LITTLE PONY, the TRANSFORMERS, G.I. JOE, and the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES just represented here in my office at Rock Father HQ. There's certainly more, as I know that JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, the MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, VOLTRON and a few other properties are on-deck for "reboots" or "re-imaginings," and THE POPPLES are coming to Netflix, but tonight we have news on another: RAINBOW BRITE.

 

Oh yes, I remember Ms. Rainbow very well - the little Sprites she'd hang out with, the metallic outfit she wore as a toy... we've even got an early 2000's depiction of Rainbow and her horse, Starlite, as a Hallmark Keepsake Ornament that graces our Christmas tree each winter. On November 6, VOD network Feeln will bring a new generation into Rainbow Land through an all-new series featuring the voices of Emily Osment and Molly Ringwald. Check out a preview...

 

 

 

 

Holy &$@! MLP just got some decent looking competition. And the Popples are returning too! I remember this stuff from WAY back in the day, like 1990 back in the day. I'm gonna have to give this and Popples a legit chance here.

Man, I guess it really is 80s reboot time. I will withhold major judgement until I can see it, but it looks eh. Nothing amazing, but certainly not terrible. It does however look like a "burnout" series that gives it its all in the first couple episodes, and then dies quietly after that.

 

And hey, the 90s are joining the reboot quest as well

So is it me, or does the art style looking eerily similar to MLP? Like, so similar it's like they said "Hey! Look at the success Hasbro is getting with My Little Pony's new look! We should try that!".

 

Well regardless, it doesn't look bad. Hopefully those who watch it enjoy it.

I looked up that VOD network, and it says it's available on Roku (as well as other devices) but it's $4 USD a month.

I liked the animation style, but not the dialogue or voice acting of the main character.

Hopefully, she'll have more range in the actual show, and not be flippant all of the time.

 

Ether way, I'll give the new Rainbow Brite show a try.

Experience has thought me that Preview Videos seldom capture the essence of a show or movie properly, due mostly to stuff being presented out of context.

That's what I thought.

I didn't watch Rainbow Brite much the first time around. Of course, I didn't watch the original My Little Pony for the same reason. They were pretty much the worst type of formulaic girly crap imaginable. Honestly, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake and Moon Dreamers were pretty much interchangeable.

No, but thanks for the heads-up. I'll see if there's a torrent of it. (Never heard of Feeln before this thread, and sure don't get it up here in Canada, the CRTC-domineered wasteland of "be Canadian or else" content, where innovation goes to die.

POPPLES ARE RETURNING?! Oh man, I just barely remember that show...my mom and I watched a few episodes we had on VHS many years ago. The thing I remember most is the VHSes XD (which we threw out a couple years ago). Anyway I'm intrigued by the fact that they decided to bring that back, along with Rainbow Brite which I never saw or was interested in.
