We the Economy: MLP Parody on Income Inequality

First, I wasn't 100% sure where this should be posted, if in Sugarcube Corner because of ponies, or the Debate Pit of the Everfree Forest because of the topic that will be talked about, so I posted it here.

So I picked up a newspaper this morning, and there was a little blurb on the front that said "See income inequality through a cartoon lens" with a little picture that was colorful that looked like ponies. I turned to the page that the article was on, and it indeed had to do with ponies.

The author of this story calls us a strange culture... :okiedokielokie:

Anyway this director, Adam McKay, decided to show income inequality, which is pretty big in the US, in an MLP style. I have not seen it yet because I just got home from school, and I thought I share it first.

You can find it here: https://wetheeconomy.com/

Feel free to explain your thoughts.

That certainly was interesting, I do agree that the poor and middle class are getting screwed but only with some of the reasons and definitely most likely not with the kind of solutions that the creator of this would offer to this problem. It is true that greedy corporations are ripping us off but it seems to blame the free market when what is going on has nothing to do with the free market and everything to do with corporatism which is in lamens terms corporate socialism. Regulations get rigged to tax and regulate competition out of business created de facto cartels with companies getting subsidies, bailouts and other kickbacks that would never occur in a true free market system.

It also mentioned that wages haven't kept up with inflation which is true but the argument seems to imply that the answer to it is to raise the minimum wage which would only make thing worse by increasing inflation which increases the cost of living and make the unemployment problem even worse. The reason for this is because wages cannot keep up with inflation because the inflation itself is a result of the continued devaluation of the dollar via an inflationary monetary policy of printing money out of thin air and taxing and spending like drunken sailors. Simply put the only way to fix the wages is to fix the money and to lower taxes and spending dramatically, this and of course removing all the bailouts, subsidies and kickbacks will increase the demand for labor by making it easier for competitors to enter the market which will mean better prices and service. This will also mean more options for workers which will make them less likely to be exploited.

The Unbelievably Sweet Alpacas is quite a good satire, and parody of MLP, this short film was put together very well, the animation was smooth, it had a sort of G3 feel with a G4 look, but the point of the film was to inform us of our economy imperialism. Many of us are living in a exploited existence, wage slaves looking to make money to have economic independence, my father and I each own our own businesses, and it is very hard too run, and with the money supply increasingly debased, hyperinflation will ensue, I witnessed the Zimbabwe hyperinflation back in 2005, and I worry that we are not learning the lessons of the corporate bailouts and money printing, nor the negative outlook that will cause. This imperial system we are toiling under, does favour the business and political elite, it has long used the labour of foreign workers, now it is unharnessed on our own citizens, with forced wealth distribution going to the military of mega-capitalization corporations and banks, done by hook and crook. I have gone into bit coin, and I am finding new ways to making more and using cryto currency, but I also have some silver and gold, it is rather unfortunate that people do not understand the economy, like trying to get government jobs or corporate service industry, is the way out of poverty, they will not make you prosper, you are making them richer, and this cartoon does a very good job at conveying the message, I suggest and recommend anyone to watch it.

I'm posting the video here:

I find it really odd that an MLP parody would be used to reference income inequality, of all the issues currently facing this country. I would have sooner expected an allegory to the ISIS war! Even more surprising is who it was that made it, I am familiar with Adam McKay having seen some of the movies he made with Will Ferrell, I'm honestly surprised that he was into MLP as well!

I appreciate him bringing attention to this pressing issue in this format, it's really entertaining and very appealing, and something really needs to be done about this issue quickly.

Income inequality is an issue I'm passionate about, but is very complex. I'm not in the mood to make a long post about it right now, so I'll spare the debate to those more willing, and for the fact that this isn't in the Debate Pit.

Most intriguing to me is how accurate the backgrounds are to Ponyville, I think they might have directly aped resources from the show! :o How are they able to get away with that?

I honestly can't wait to see the inevitable sequel where the Alpaca Reserve rigs the game and prints lollipops by the trillions like they're going out of style to hand off to foreign banks and fund mule contras in underdeveloped countries.
