ManaMinori 4,146 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Four seasons into gen 4, and we still have no idea how it got there, in the Everfree Forest, or much of anything about it, really (other than it creating, and I guess being the original bearer of the elements of Harmony). Going from the Journal of the Two Sisters, it was fully grown in the forest, when Celestia and Luna were young, newly appointed princesses by Starswirl, and Starswirl knew about the tree before those two did. I guess we can consider that Celestia and Luna's "mom", Fausticorn planted the seed that would grow into the ToH, but that might be only part of it. In my opinion, the ToH grew from the (brace yourselves) Rainbow of Light, seen in the original generation of MLP. (well, at least, the portion of it that the ponies wielded) But that leaves the question of, who created the rainbow of light, in that case (if not Fausticorn)? My thoughts: probably a hooved guardian of marekind? Maybe, quite possibly, a kirin? Eh? Eh?! (I mean, what better? Kirins are quiet, gentle, part pony, ethereal, magical, mystical, horned and hooved, and punisher of the wicked (much like THE rainbow of light). So likely, (Headcanon alert!) a kirin, the perfect hooved guardian of marekind, created the rainbow, left a piece of it with the Moochick (where it's contained within a locket), that power wasn't seen through gens 2 and 3, but left in the hooves of Faust, after g1's generation of ponies had passed on, Faust buried the locket and the rainbow within it in the Everfree Forest, and there it used its power to grow into the ToH, which explains the rainbow powers g4's ponies can use through the elements, reminiscent of the rainbow of light, and which also explains the locked box that g4's ponies had to open for their rainbow powers) G1 locket containing the rainbow of light piece transformed into the locked box containing the rainbow. Fawkes The Phoenix 737 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 I think that it was originated after Clover the Clever defeated the Wendigos, because that was the first time the magic of friendship was used in Equestria. I also think that there's a posibility that Clover may be Celestia and Luna's mother, the elements of harmony have the power to turn ponies into alicorns, so maybe she was became an alicorn after studying the magic of friendship, like Twilight did, and maybe that's why Starswirl tried to use that magic and failed. About the tree, i think that the reason it's in the Everfree Forest is Discord's fault because of the seeds he planted. 1 Equestria's best unicorns
Nature's Spell 526 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 Clover the Clever is an interesting character and I'd love to find out more about her life after HWE. Was she releated in someway to the sisters? She wasn't an Alicorn, so if she was the sisters Mom that would mean they were unicorns orignally. As far as the tree, I think the most interesting fact is that Twilight's cutie mark was so prominent in the tree. Luna and Celestia's as well, but I often wonder if Celestia made the connection when she saw Twilight's cuite mark. Was Twilight destined to be the Princess of Friendship? It seems so. ManaMinori 4,146 November 3, 2014 Author Share November 3, 2014 Clover the Clever is an interesting character and I'd love to find out more about her life after HWE. It seems so. regarding Clover the Clever, I'm going to go off what's in the Journal of the two Sisters, since we find out the MOST about her through this, rather than the show. Based off what Luna and Celie said and saw Clover as, there's a high probability that she's NOT related in any way to the royal sisters. Clover the Clever was a unicorn, and Starswirl's apprentice. There couldn't have been any way for Clover to become an alicorn, seeing as how she was studying under Starswirl, who- as mentioned several times- never knew the magic of friendship, so if he couldn't become ascent into an alicorn, there was no way for Clover to. Luna and Celestia were BORN as alicorns, under the care of other alicorns, who resided in Canterlot and spoke in CANTERLOCK. No mention of Clover the Clever, until Starswirl asked them to be princesses, after the events of hearth's warming eve. As Luna's trying to pull a prank on Clover, she mentions just how difficult it is, since Clover had her wits about her, was trained by Starswirl, and had magic on her side, so when Luna played a prank, Clover countered it with a spell. One would think that if Clover were related to them in any way, Luna wouldn't be surprised and frustrated by this, if spent enough time around them (especially if Clover WERE their mother). She would've known what Clover (if she had any relation to her) would do, and counter the counter spell, to effectively prank her. So I think that is sufficient evidence to show there's no relation. As for the Tree of Harmony, yes, Twilight's (and Luna's and Celestia's) cutie marks on it is something to be questioned....or is it? The tree is the original bearer of the Elements, whih were all weilded, at some point by Luna, and Celestia, and finally, Twilight, when she came along. All three (along with Twi's friends, which the elements later took on the shape of their cutie marks) all protect/ have protected Equestria at some point in time, and kept things in harmony (as the rainbow of light once did). So I still choose to believe that the piece of the rainbow of light used its magic to become the Tree of Harmony, through the generations; holding its rainbow powers within the elements themselves, and the sealed box, when its bearers were ready to access its stronger magic. Nature's Spell 526 November 3, 2014 Share November 3, 2014 @nightmare-muffin I thank you for your reply. I've not read the Journal yet and since it has not appeared in show canon I feel like I can ignore it. :-) It doesn't jive with my head canon. If it shows up on the show I guess I'll adapt. Perhaps the tree is more democratic in its ownership as you suggest, but I still feel Twilight is special. :-) Princess Twilight Sparkle: Princess of Friendship Princess Luna: Princess of the Night My short stories
I used to be a stranger 7,994 November 3, 2014 Share November 3, 2014 In my headcanon, Princess Celestia and Luna are like demigods subordinate to more supreme beings who aren't mentioned much, which is analogous to Mithrandir(aka Gandalf), Sauruman and Galadriel in Lord of the Rings universe, as described in the Silmarillion. There are things they simply do not know about the world which they must explore for themselves. Magic would be an unexplored realm at the outset, and the Tree of Harmony might just be some natural peculiarity, just like Quarray Eels or the Everfree Forest. NotoriousSMALL 1,984 November 3, 2014 Share November 3, 2014 I think its an actual cosmic being or the avatar of a greater, benevolent cosmic being that came here to bring order to equestria. Plants are waaaaaaaayyy smarter than people give them credit for and this is no regular tree Altgough its probably isnt because thats way too deep for this show but its still fun to speculate, plus they might surprise us (they have before)
Sunny Bucket 4 November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 I bet that The Tree of Harmony grew before Luna and Celestia ruled equestria. Probably some alicorn was eating a magical fruit and spat the seeds out and later became the tree of Harmony. Stuff like that just seems to happen alot in equestria. Jeric 46,867 November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 Hmmm. Based on that IMDB Synopsis, and the animatic that was shown at SDCC, I wonder if the Tree of Harmony is linked to the existance of Cutie Marks. First we see animatics with 'strange' Cutie Marks (my belief is that the equal sign is a stand in symbol meaning all the cutie marks will be the same). Now we also know the Tree of Harmony is connected to this episode as well.

Heck three are etched into the tree and the EOH take the form of the current barers cutie marks. Argumedies 1,748 November 8, 2014 Share November 8, 2014 I like to think that the tree on harmony is but an extension of the energies that flows through Equestria, the elements being it fruit. what I want to know is where is the origin of all the magic comes from. is there a heart of Equestria? Celli 4,341 November 22, 2014 Share November 22, 2014 Surprisingly, the Journal of the Two Sisters doesn't touch upon that. Maybe we'll find out in season 5? Or maybe the comics or another book will explain it.
