Etmas.

...thwip..thwip...thwip...

The cards were out again, though more absent mindedly this time, as Etmas smiled wryly. He saw himself as having a pretty good chance of coming out on top here, so long as nobody folded when it mattered.

Though, some arrangements might need to be made first...

"Heh, well said!" He smirked, stepping forward again. No sense letting this game start without him: he needed to play his first hand, so to speak. With a flick of the wrist, the deck was splayed in a fan, face down on his talons.

"Fifty Two cards in a deck, not counting the jokers..." He drew one himself without looking, before holding out the thick fan of cards towards Faith. "... go on, try your luck! Aces are high, highest card wins."

Pausing, he quickly added a slightly less vague and meaningless explanation.

"Just a little game, if you'd indulge me miss. Eveyone here needs to loosen up a bit, myself included. You'd be doing me a favor."

Frozen looks over to the newcomer, the squad's Titan by his equipment, and smiles, "Hey there, I'm doing pretty well, and yourself?"

She then hears Cosmic's statement, "Honestly, I'm not very eager to kill anything. I mean, we're here to get the job done, not go out and kill things. I just hope that things end up well, there are more rookies on this team than I'd like, but I guess it's our job to make sure they survive." She pulls out and starts fiddling with her dog tags, looking for something non-explosive to use to occupy her hands.

" I highly doubt it. The technology to make fully sentient and self sufficient robots seems to be very uncommon these days. Not to mention any of them seem to show the usual signs of being techno-organic in nature" Agnus said. The possibility was open, the  metal pony assumed, but highly unlikely. Most of it's mind at the current moment was taken up by  the mission. Hopefully the team would need the expertise of Agnus on most existing technologies in some way. It always did feel good to know the services it provided were useful.

"It's kill our be killed down there, ya know?" Cosmic said. "I'm not here just so I can legally shoot living things or somethin' like that. It's just for our survival. We got guns, might as well use 'em." Cosmic shifted his weight. "And I think we don't really have to really foalsit these rookies. I mean, they are good enough to be Rangers after all, right?" Cosmic paused for a moment, then spoke a bit loudly and turned to Sai. "Hey, how long 'till we're on the ground, Ma'am?"

Faith fiddled with her crystal a little more, then looked up at the Gryphon with the cards splayed out in front of her. She knew that she shouldn't trust in luck, but he didn't seem to be that bad and she wasn't feeling that nervous yet. Not to mention it was probably a decent way to get to know him.

But what would Gambit do? 'He'd take the challenge head-on, that's what he'd do. I should be more like him...Yeah, more like my brother. He's not afraid of anything.'

Faith spoke clearly, but due to the way she was, her voice still carried her natural gentleness. "I'm in."

Uncommon? That was odd. One would think that creating artificial ponies would be easy. Was it deemed too dangerous for some reason? Maybe its memory was faulty. "Why would they stop making cybernetic ponies? Is it dangerous? Is it like those movies where the AI goes crazy and tries the remove everyone it deems a threat so they have to find a way to stop it?" Rusty asked, words pouring from her mouth like a stream.

"I......" Agnus froze for a second. " I am not really sure why they have stopped making them. Nor am I sure why the tech is so rare now. Then again, I am fully sentient, with feelings and thought patterns supposedly like every pony else here. I suppose that can not be easy at all. And with all the tech we lost in the collapse, it shouldn't be too hard to assume it was simply lost and too hard to simply re-create" Agnus gave his opinion. The subject was an odd question, were had that technology gone ?

Frozen shrugs, "Yes they're qualified to be Rangers, but that doesn't mean they'll hold up when things really go south. I just hope everyone stays calm when we begin to see combat." She tries to stay cool, masking the fact that her statements apply to her too. She had spent plenty of time in simulations and experiments, but never taken part in an actual operation before.

Cosmic threw his arm around her. "Eh, lighten up. I'm sure everything will go well. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? We could die, sure, but..." Cosmic trailed off, realizing he probably wasn't helping anypony else or himself feel better. "Well, ummm... if it helps, I'm a little nervous too. But there probably isn't anything to worry about. We got guns, allies, and support if needed. We'll get back alright. If you want, we can play a friendly game. Whoever screams first loses. Loser... um... buys winner a drink. Yeah. Frozen begins to smile, the idea of a competition calming her nerves, "Sure, sounds good... But when you lose I'm going to make sure that it costs you, just try to stay alive for the bet ok?" She says more casually, hoping that it'll help defuse both of their nerves, "And while we're in a betting mood, how about a little betting pool for first blood? After all, nothing motivates people more than a bet... I think the first person of us two to drop whatever's out there gets to make the other do one thing they want, within reason of course. What do you think?"

Fixit couldn't help but chuckle at the weapon specialist's use of the word "zombie." Even Fixit knew more about the abominations on the surface than that. As far as he knew, reanimated corpses were among the least horrific things one could run into down there.

"Zombies. Right," he said "Anyhow, mah family hailed from the southern regions before... Before all this happened. Or so my parents say."

"As for rookies... Well, I hate to breatk it to you but I've never seen combat."

Now he felt out of place. What if he was the only one who hadn't seen the surface up close and personal?

"How long have y'all been part of the programme for?"

There. That might clear some things up.

(I'll be calculating Etmas' luck with cards, dice and so on by rolling virtual dice, since he does it a lot and it's a good reflection that way. Just a heads up in case anyone was curious. Also, apologies for the long delays.)

Etmas.

Etmas smirked a little as the girl accepted his little game: a little gamble to ease the tension and remind everyone that no situation was too serious to make a game of.

It wasn't even fit to be called a 'game' really - more a brief test of luck, but they could save the real games for when they knew one another a little better.

"What card would you like it to be?" He asked suddenly, before she could actually draw. "What's your lucky number? Mine is four: never lost a game where my first card was a four..."

Nodding slightly to the card held face down in the palm of his other hand - the one that he had drawn moments before - he shook his head and chuckled a little beneath his breath.

"I hope it's not a six though, because I really don't want to start today on an unlucky streak."

Faith thought for a moment. She knew what number she didn't want it to be. 10. That was the day her mother's body was brought back, and they told her that her father had gone missing. Still, she didn't want to seem weak and scared in front of the other Rangers, and said the first number off the top of her head.

"12. Are you feeling lucky?" She asked, actively trying to sound like the others and especially her brother, but not quite getting there.

"Huh... Well, if we find any of that tech, we're gonna have to figure out a way to use it. Maybe make more cybernetic ponies to assist the Rangers. Would Chaos affect you like it affects others? 'Cause I heard some Rangers got turned into monsters. But I'm sure that's just a story they use to frighten newbies like me." Rusty said, though she was curious. Would Chaos affect a robot like it affects a living being? It would probably be something they'd have to see to find out. Rusty also missed Faith giving her what looked like an unamused look.

Fixit was somewhat surprised. The way those two had been talking he expected they'd have seen the surface a few times, but in actuality they had precisely as much experience as he did; precisely none.

Still, they'd been in training long enough. Fixit had been in training for about six months. He knew how to handle the rifle slung over his shoulder and the Hard-light Bubble Shield Deployment Devices hooked onto his belt, and he was fully aware of the capabilities of his armour (he had even attempted to make some changes to the shielding output system, though he suspected there was more to it than electronics so he left it alone.)

"No need to worry," he said, spurred on by an odd feeling of comradeship "Every one of us made it through the screening process and through the training; we can do this. Take it safe and slow, cover your squadmates, and show what ever's down there what you can do."

Frozen nods and puts her helmet on, letting the HUD recalibrate and initialize, "This will be quite the mission, I'm sure that we'll all have a chance to put all that fancy training of ours to good use at some point during this op." The comforting glow of her combat suit's internal systems begins to flood her eyes with information. She hopes that the helmet won't alienate the others, but she found the full armour's strategic computing ability was incredibly versatile and tactically useful, especially with her grenade launcher's trajectory calculations.

She looks over to the rest of the team, "I hope you don't mind if I wear this from now on, better safe than dead."

Letting out an anxious sigh, he sits about in a meditative pose with his legs in a tailors position. Unsure of when the drop would be.it was a best idea to become relaxed and think about his priorities. Keep everyone on check and we'll get out of this alive.

Blackheart sighed as he continued to look out the window. "What happened?... what made the world go so wrong?..." he said quietly to no one in particular. He wondered what had unleashed the chaos that had destroyed the once beautiful world. Blackheart had read many books on what the lands below had been like before this darkness had come. Green fields, flourishing forests, snowcapped mountains, and more. However, that was all just a memory recorded in books. Blackheart shook his head and looked away from the window, it would just make him even more melancholic.

With a flick of his wrist, the remaining cards in the deck were twirled in the air and caught firmly in his palm - somehow not scattering over the ground. He grinned.

"Aiming high, eh? I like that... but remember, the smaller cards get their own time to shine at well. Doesnt matter how small it is, theres always a chance. And sometimes, it pays to bet on the underdog, y'know?"

Shrugging a little, he twirled the card concealed in his free talon - raising it to his face before turning it towards the girl.

"Ten of hearts. Not as lucky as a nine, but a good, strong card. That's a tough act to beat missy! Whatcha got?"

"Mutations have been known to happen among ponies that have been exposed to large amounts of chaotic energy, or at least I think that is what happens" Agnus said. The robotic pony nodded in agreement to what she said afterwards. Robotic ponies could be able to help the rangers immensely, especially with extremely hazardous tasks. If they found that tech, it would also be possible to advance prosthetic forward quickly, with a little studying of how the robotics work.

Faith stared at the card in her hand. A four of spades. She wasn't superstitious, but she had read somewhere that some cultures believed that the number four meant death. It might have just been a friendly bet, yet she still asked herself, 'Who's going to die?'

Before Rusty could say anything, she was interrupted by the pilot. "We're landing in a few moments, in the clearing designated on your holopanels. Everyone strap in and stow your weapons and anything loose. I don't want guns going off or anything making a mess of my ship." He said as he flipped a few switches and the holopanels flashed with the LZ.

He waited for everyone to be ready before setting the ship down. The slowdown might have been gradual, but that didn't stop the ship from lurching when it kicked in the forward thrusters to stop in place. Then the slow descent to the ground, which felt like an elevator going down. Something that never failed to make Faith queazy, as she covered her mouth and held a hand to her stomach, slowly turning green.

The ship finally landed with a solid clunk and the doors opened. But what they saw had only been described by other Rangers. seeing it for themselves was different. Thick black vines with blue thorns snaked along the tree trunks, and strange creatures ran away from the ship. The canopy in the forest looked strange and alien. Nothing like the forest areas on the Citadel, where it was like a simulation of Old Equestria. And strange blue flowers popped up with a strange blue gas spewing from them. And they seemed to be moving...

Moving towards the ship!
