As soon as they had landed, Blackheart had taken out a strip of black cloth and tied it around the lower part of his face, covering his mouth and nose to give some small protection against poison blood and gas. He hadn't even seen the strange plants until he heard Bulawayo shout. At first glance, Blackheart could tell it might be a bad idea to engage in close quarters. He had no idea what that strange blue gas might do, despite his makeshift gas mask. Instead he drew out his light pistol and held it with both hands, taking shots at the encroaching plants. He was no marksman, but he did hit a few of the plants, though he wasn't sure how much damage he actually did.

Agnus took a step back and stared at the plants. In a few seconds the robotic pony ran them through his known plant life databases. No matches popped up. Agnus had no idea what these were, even with his extensive knowledge databases. Agnus readied the weapon he had been given, and was ready for a fight, but then a though occurred.  If these were truely new creatures...them maybe, just maybe, if they could stun and subdue them, they could learn more about them,  and about the surrounding plant life. That is, if these things had evolved, and no just popped in like chaos does sometimes.

Etmas.

"Time to roll." The gambler grunted under his breath. "If anyone wants to point us in the right direction, that would be great."

With a half-shrug, the rifle fell from his shoulder and into his awaiting hand - rising to his eye in a moment. Plants, how the hell was he supposed to kill plants? They didn't even have a discernable anatomy!

Playing the odds safe, he sighted down the first and loosed a shot directly towards the closest thing it had to a 'center of mass' - the center of its leaves.

"Anyone knows how you kill a plant with a freaking bullet, I'd kinda like to know that as well."

Frozen rummages through her bag to find her incendiary grenades, then slams several home in her launcher.

"Everyone clear!" She shouts despite knowing that no one is in her way before firing a few into the mass of plants, her mask preventing the others from seeing the feral grin on her face as the potent combination of thermite, kerosine, and magnesium pops and begins to spread a roaring blaze through the moving plants.

She smiles, "Does that work for everyone" She quips as she slowly reloads the launcher, shocked how much she enjoyed the act of killing alien plants.

@@FractalMoon,

Agnus let out an audible groan as the plants were fired upon with an incendiary weapon. The death of the plants wasn't what bothered the mechanical pony, not at all, but instead the fact they were in the middle of an extremely flammable environment. This could be very troublesome if the blaze did indeed spread out of control.

"Do you have an reasonable plan of action should your weapon start a forest fire ? We are supposed to operate within this area after all, and we don't need it in flames to just add to the danger" Agnus said, as he ran a small simulation in his head, trying to get a sense of what if the fire did spread.

Blackheart realized that it might be a better idea if he let the ones that could actually shoot handle this. He got up and put his gun back in a holster near his hip. He watched as the flames engulfed the plant hordes. While he did think it had taken out the hostiles, he also realized that they had to go out in that environment as well and Blackheart didn't like the thought of being cooked like those plants.

Blackheart drew out his blades and held them casually at his sides. His eyes were still on the flames. He had an uneasy feeling about this mission already.

As the drop ship's hatch slammed open Fixit put on his own helmet. It clicked into place, magnetic latches around its rim connecting with their partners in his hardsuit's collar. There was a short hissing sound as air flooded into the helmet and the turquoise outlines of the helmet's HUD sprang into life, tagging each squad member with their name, rank and role in the squad.

He took the rifle from his shoulder, holding it at the ready. Before he could even step out onto the twisted surface of the homeworld he heard the sound of hard light generators conjuring projectiles from nothing.

There was an explosion, and he stepped out into the open to the sight of flames rising from a mass of plants spewing some form of gas.

Well, looked like the Rules of Engagement were out the window.

"Hold your fire, damn it!" he said over the comms, hoping someone would heed his order despite his rank.

Bulawayo let out a sigh, sounding somewhat upset. That.erratic use of explosives was neigh-unacceptable.

"Please take caution before you use that. " he then takes a step forth off the Dropship taking a whiff of the air. A slight smile came upon his face. The old world around him, how decayed and recreated you have become.

With the flames.dying down slightly from the scorched grass and plants he approaches to one carefully, his rifle still aimed upon it. Close now, he pokes upon the once sentient plant with his rifle barrel.

With no reaction he takes out his KXbar combat and unfolds the scorched petals revealing the dead innards. Once finished he stands and returns to the dropship doors awaiting his squad.

Cosmic had been caught in a daydream, staring at one of the vines. He finally shook himself awake, realizing there were things happening. The mysterious environment had left him speechless. "This.. this is so weird..." He mumbled. That's just about all he could say. Cosmic slowly drew his weapon, preparing for retaliation from the foreign world. "Keep your eyes peeled, guys... we're vulnerable..."

@FractalMoon

He jumped at the sound of the explosion. "Whoa, whoa! What was that?!" Cosmic held his rifle up and spun around. Realizing that it was a teammate, he sighed in partial relief. Then, he also noticed the fire growing, engulfing the plants. "Hey, careful! Don't burn down the place!"

As Bulawayo poked it with his rifle, the jaws of the plant opened on reflex, letting out a spray of the blue gas into the fire, igniting the gas and the plant with it. In seconds, the burning plant, still chock full of gas, went up with a loud pop, spraying plant juices and innards everywhere, with similar pops going off in the inferno and sprays of burning blue plant guts scattering everywhere.

Bulawayo had limited reaction, even as he turned step away the gas already ignited, the initial explosion knocking him back. He tucked and was rolled about before halting on the ground. In his mid roll the flamed gore on his back became extinguished once smothered on the ground.

His Regulator Dermal S model armor (S for skin) prevented his back and arms from becoming heavily scorched but the immense heat remained and the heating pain had remained. He groans and snorts as he picks himself up.

"Minimal damage.. Nothing too harsh." He says to himself.

Blackheart's eyes had been scanning the surrounding area for any other signs of movement. His head jerked as he heard the sound of another explosion and he turned to see Bulawayo sprawled on the ground. He went over and was going to offer a hand, but Bulawayo seemed to just dust himself off and get right back up.

"Are you alright?" Blackheart asked, he wasn't sure if the burning plant based material had made it past the Zebra's armor.

Agnus looked around at the area. The blaze looked at least take for now. At the least, the plants seemed dead. The robotic pony hefted his rifle and put most of the currently available processing power into combat and environmental awareness. This place was very dangerous, and none of the ponies could spare to be caught with their guard down. Here, that would mean death.

@@Windbreaker,

"Stay alert, and you will stay alive" Agnus said to the pony sent to assist him.

"I'm alright." He says catching his breath as he quietly groaning a bit and the lingering sneer of pain on his back . He picks up his rifle before letting on a quiet sigh.

He again scans the area.

"We'd best get a move. We aren't sure if anything heard that." He says hoping slightly larger creatures are not lurking by.

@@Commander Tangent,

"Uh, yeah. I should do that." Rusty said, a mix of fear and excitement blurring through her mind as she watched the popping and burning plants shrivel up in the flames. "So, uh, ever seen anything like these before?"

@@@The Shadow Stallion,

Faith had previously been stunned, having never seen combat or these plants before. Until the other medic got burning plant guts sprayed on him, that is. She raced up to him and activated the medical scanner on her Exo's wrist computer, checking for injuries and going through her inventory of medical equipment.

"How are you feeling? Does it hurt?" She asked, simultaneously scanning the Striker as well.

"Everything is well. Just let me catch my breathe." He responds as grumbles slightly, not by his wounds or such but by his faulty mistake. He should've known better then to go out. His curiosity has to be in check.

"I overlooked those plants. Should've been more cautious." He mutters slightly placing.blame upon himself.

The dermal armor has been singed, the scorch mark visible on his back. Suddenly as if by itself the scorch and damage begin to fade off.

Blackheart chuckled quietly to himself as he realized the irony that he was the close range fighter of the squad and yet the medic took a melee ranged hit over him.

"Be more careful perhaps?" Blackheart suggested to Bulawayo. "Don't know what is out here, deadliest looking thing might be safest to run into." Blackheart wasn't that well versed in the world, but he did know a thing or two about evaluating situations and the potential danger vs potential gain. However, this chaos world did counteract his logic a bit.

Rusty looked back and forth between each member of the team, with a slightly concerned look on her face. "You don't know what's out here? I thought that you guys had been down here before." She glanced back over her shoulder, and flipped out a somewhat large device that looked like a pocketwatch. "BERTRAM, can you check everyone's vitals, or at least make sure that they're fine?"

@@Laserbolt,

Agnus looked down at the pocket watch like device that was now held by Rusty. After hearing her speak into it, the robotic pony tilted it's head, hoping to express curiosity. The device looked interesting.

" Some of us have been out before, but not all of us from what I understand. " Agnus replied, " And that device.... what is it, some form of medical or vitals monitor ?" Agnus asked Rusty with a curios look.

Faith was glad that he wasn't hurt much. That'd be bad. So very, very bad. She stood up and set her medkit to stand-by, turning to the Striker next. "Do you have any injuries at all? My medical scanner didn't pick up anything, but it never hurts to ask about these things."

"Oh....er uh.... No... I am not all. I mean no I am not injured." Blackheart said, he mentally berated himself. Again he wasn't used to talking to others much, but he thought he had better control of his speech then that. "It doesn't hurt to ask though um... thank you for asking." He continued to say awkwardly.

Blackheart wished that at this moment some great beast of some sort would show up. Beasts he could handle, socializing not so much.

It was here that Faith noticed just how quiet it was getting. She raised her rifle, pointing it away from the squad. "We need to move before more of them turn up." She said, looking back to the ship for the Librarian's orders...but she was gone. Everyone in the squad would then receive a message from Sai, saying to go on ahead to the objective and she would catch up later. She didn’t explain when or why, but it could be important.

Sometime later, the squad would find themselves deep in the forest, following an ancient railroad leading to the ruins of Canterlot. Faith was getting increasingly nervous, despite her earlier claim that she wasn’t always afraid, and drifted towards the Striker, who seemed to be as awkward as she was. And there was the practical reasons, too. She was a medic, and he was a Striker that was likely going to get hurt a lot, given their usual MO of fighting in close quarters with melee weapons. The forest around them was even more alien under the canopy, where the light was filtered through shades of green and pink, making everything look like some weird acid trip, minus the symptoms of an acid trip. Faith kept an eye on everyone’s vitals every so often to make sure anyway.

The strangest thing was that nothing seemed to have attacked them since the plants. It was almost peaceful. A little too peaceful…

"Don't like this..." Blackheart muttered quietly. The fact that no monsters had charged out in a while made Blackheart a bit anxious. He felt as though something was watching the group, as if waiting for the opportune moment to spring its trap. Blackheart's hands were on his weapons and he was drumming his fingers across the hilts of his swords. His eyes were darting back and forth. It was clear that he was on high alert at this moment, he had learned too often in the citadel that dropping his guard could result in getting a sneak attack beating.

Blackheart glanced at Faith. "Is wrong with anyone, I um.... mean er... Is anything wrong with anyone?" He asked awkwardly. He wanted to make sure that nothing was in the air that might be inducing a sort of sedative effect. If his reflexes were slowed down in a fight by some sort of airborne sedative, it might make the difference between surviving and being something's dinner.

Rusty spoke very quietly. "This is the Everfree, isn't it? I've heard stories about this place! It's so fascinating!" She smiled underneath the helmet. "I've heard that there are plants here that can cure any disease in here. Is that true?" She bounced slightly as she looked around herself.
