gaming Confession: I never liked Majora's Mask heresy edition

I figure I'd express an unpopular opinion. I was never a handheld Zelda gamer really. With the exception of games like Link's Awakening(best handheld Zelda game) and the Oracle duaology.. I stuck really with the main games. I didn't grow up with the original NES and SNES stuff, but got far in the first Zelda.

Now I will just state the best 3D games in my eyes in order

Ocarina of Time>Twilight Princess>Wind Waker> Majora's Mask>>>>>>>>Skyward Sword( see what I did there)

I know this game has been deemed overrated and the media praise of the game is absurd. Yes Ocarina of Time is truly a milestone in gaming and caused a revolution in how games were made and set the standard for lock on targeting and semi sand box rpg exploration. I am happy to have been 5 years old and actually get introduced to the game by my cousin who let me play it at his house until I got my N64 and the game.

I don't like Majora's Mask for the simple reasons I cannot connect to the world and don't like the villain Majora. The soundtrack is the worst in the Zelda  games(Skyward Sword is only redeemed by a pretty good original soundtrack) I didn't like being timed for a game that encourages taking your time and exploring. I don;t care for a game being "darker". Honestly OoT is darker. You travel to the future 7 years to Ganondorf who conquered Hyrule and you are the remaining hope in a dark world.

Majora/Skull Kid is thwarted early in the game when you discover time travel with the song of time and to me it just makes Majora suck a joke because you cannot lose at all. The only great things are Fierce Diety Mask along with the deku, goron and zora mask. Since Diety Link is sort of like having Adult Link back for this sequel.

Ocarina of Time has the better adventure, soundtrack, atmopshere. I never got bored of ONE boss fight, even lame bosses such as Morpha for the temp that shall not be named....is better than most Majora boss fights,

Just figure I say my peice.

Good points but I have always liked MM over OoT because I feel a deeper connection to it's people then I did in OoT.

I would agree with most of what you said. Have you tried A Link to the Past? It's on SNES and has a GBA version. I consider it one of the best in the series.

Also, why no mention of the Zelda CD-i games? They're almost like 3D, and the music is pretty good...

I never really liked the 3D versions of Zelda for exactly the reasons given in that Sequelitis posted by Marine_Vet_Brony.  Like Roughshod said, your best bet is probably Link to the Past which is my vote for the best game in the series.  The original is also good but brutally hard.  The only Nintendo handheld I own is the DSi, and sadly the only two Zelda games for that system are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, both of which are horrible.  Avoid those two like the plague.

Majora's Mask is a good game, a great one even. I absolutely love it.

However... I would never call it the best Zelda game. It's just so short of a game with just the oddest, at times annoying save system to boot(an issue which seems will be resolved in MM3D, woot).

Definitely agree OoT is better... MM is cool and all, but it only really expanded on the revolutionary game that was Ocarina of Time in the end.

Here's an unpopular Zelda opinion. OOT is the worst in the series.

It is certainly overrated, I will agree to that.  If you think it is the worst though, clearly your standards are to high.  Have you tried playing Spirit Tracks?  That will make your standards for Zelda games so low they will only exist in dimensions theorized by physicists.

When I say worst, I don't mean it's bad, I still like it, but to me it is the weakest in the series. I haven't finished the first 2, I might at some point, but those ones are so damn confusing.

Also, I've beaten every game except for the GBC, DS, and NES ones.

I really, really loved the concept of the game and all the head canon's I heard about it.

but when I finally got to play it, it was more.... meh.

but I think, personally, it had more to do with me not knowing what to do.

I've only ever dabbled with Zelda games, I've never really played them seriously like I do with other games.

so I don't too much out the other games you've mentioned.

I always viewed Majora's Mask in a similar vein as Final Fantasy VI. Don't get me wrong, I think both games are great, but growing up I saw most people consider Ocarina of Time and FFVII some of the best games. Eventually people began to bash these games on the basis of being overrated, and would always consider MM and FFVI to be vastly superior games, and eventually that became the popular opinion.

And, tbh, arguments like that never really persuaded me, but rather just make me sour over games like MM or FFVI instead. Again I'd like to emphasize that I still think they're great games, but in the end the game's respective fanbases just ended up overhyping the games for me and I didn't think they were any better than the games that supposedly "sucked"

Also as a personal note, I found all 4 games to be mid-tier with in their respective series
