Random Acts of Kindness?

True Rarity

Recommended Posts

So I was just thinking about all the darkness and negativity of the world... Wow, this is really sounding cheesy. Basically, I wanted to know your ideas and opinions on random acts of kindness.

My personal favorite is taping a baggie of popcorn and candy to movie rental stations with a note saying "Enjoy popcorn with your movie!"

I know not everyone likes these things and think they're annoying. What's your opinion?

Well oh ok, when I was like 10 or 11, in elementary school, there was this kid who had no money or lunch, he told me he was hungry and I shared some of my money with him, at that moment I felt like the more generous and kind person in the world, now I feel like he lied to me and I was a fool xD

Kindness is Justice! (I wonder if there's a meme for that)

Anyway, I'm helping some classmates on studies regarding english/math, they say I should become a teacher but well, that's never going to happen lol

Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.  Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.  And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

I have a notoriously mischevious friend, and we are in the gas station in our neighborhood. This other dude is in there getting stuff and we overhear him say he has just enough for some boiled peanuts, the man seemed really happy. My friend saw a 5 dollar bill on the ground and picked it up, and the man went to go buy his stuff, only to find he had no money. Miraculously, instead of taking the money for himself my friend returns the money to the man. I was proud and surprised as my friend has done some bad stuff in his days, and i expected him to keep the money.

Right now I'm thinking of that episode from season 4 when Rarity went to Manehattan to do a fashion show and ended up being kicked in the head by that one pony who ripped off her fabric because: "it's dog-eat-dog" and "every pony for themselves." Sure, Rarity was screwed up for a while even to the point of abusing her friends for a while but that's not her nature, that's not how she rolls.

The great, good thing is that she did realize what she was doing, apologized to her friends who, being her friends, forgave her and moved on.

Icing on the cake was when Rarity found out she'd actually won the show! Yeah!

The point: Yeah, there's people in the world who will take advantage of you but if your nature is to be kind and generous then don't let one or even a few unkind actions from others take that away from you because a kind and generous spirit truly is a rare and precious thing in this world and something the world needs now more than ever.

Besides, the ones that take advantage don't win. They always end up losing in the long run but you're the one who wins if you stay true to yourself and who you really are.

If you really believe that there's no kind people in the world then you haven't been paying attention. It may surprise you to think that, at any time, there could be all kinds of kind things going on all around you but those things may be getting done very quietly so that you'd never know it.

Completely natural. I find them delightful but unsurprising. Humans are communal creatures. Aiding another is simply in our nature. Nowadays, it's just giving a laugh or a present as opposed to sharing food.

One of the most unequivocally best things I did was see a homeless person on the sidewalk, go to a small shop to buy some food and a gatorade, and brought it to him.

"Thank you, God bless you." He said.

I'm not sure if it's truly random given that I obviously selected him for the donation, but I certainly wasn't being asked to do that by anyone.

There's two things I do as random acts of kindness:

1: if I'm going somewhere and I know there's going to be street people around I'll pack a sandwich and a juice box in a back pack and take that with me. If I get hit up for spare change and the person tells me they want it for something to eat I'll offer them the sandwich and the juice box. If they say no thanks I'll go on my way but, sometimes, they say yes, take the sandwich and juicebox and are happily grateful for it.

2: sometimes if I'm grocery shopping I'll run across some poor or elderly person who is obviously counting out their money to make sure they have enough to buy what they need. If it seems clear to me that they're really struggling (and experience teaches how to tell the difference) then I'll simply buy them their groceries, providing it's not too much and I can afford to do it.

It's amazing how much of a difference this can make in a random person's day.

I was partially joking :P

Yeah I know people aren't all bad, but I'm not giving up my tendency towards cynicism. If someone offered me a free gatorade I'd check it for drugs first.

Yeah, that's another thing. That's what I meant by the following:

I know not everyone likes these things and think they're annoying.

I probably could have elaborated further on what I meant.

No, no I think it's great that you like this and that people can be thoughtful. I'm just saying, I don't trust people I don't know especially if it seems like they are being unusually nice.

I think that random acts of kindness are really fun! Even if it's just something like a little note saying "Hello stranger reading this, I hope you have a nice day!", it's exciting to come across.

However, I myself am a rather selfish person and you probably wouldn't find me randomly doing something for a stranger ^^;

I really like to do random acts of kindness some of the things I like to do are:

1) Hold the door open for someone

2) Give some money to charity

I do these two things as often as I can :)

Okay, that's reassuring. Still, I wouldn't call your attitude so much cynicism so much as just good, common sense. After all, there are, sadly, some pretty weird people in the world.

This also reminds me of my time on secondary like a year ago, I was that kind of person that lends some money when asked, but there was those guys that abused of that, and if I didn't lend them they called me selfish, I mean really?! They never payed me!!

  • 4 years later...

I do a lot of nice things for people whenever I can.

I help the elderly because one day I myself will be elderly

I help the homeless because many of us are just one paycheck away from being homeless...

In general I try to do good when I can and try my best. Me and my grandfather bought groceries for the homeless, I've even potentially risked my safety giving strangers rides or asking where they would like to go. (Dont tell my dad that or he would flip)

Besides donating old clothes

If I'm doing ok money wise sometimes I'll pay for the person behind me's stuff in drive through lines

I also bought gifts for some of my coworkers for the holidays, even one who I'm having a lot of conflict with. It surprised them.
