I just started watching MLP! And finished it 0.0

In 3 weeks I finished out the entire show. All 4 seasons.

I have to say it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I want to do a review on here of each season from what im guessing is a unique perspective, considering I watched the show relatively raw, with no outside knowledge of bronys (except that they existed and that derpy hooves was a glitch that was made into a character *I think*)

But right now I want to give my 2 cents on the season 4 finale, because I hated it... WAY to many lazers, with HUGE plot holes, and no real lesson at the end. All twilight even did was give up her magic KNOWING she was going to open a box with a bigger better lazer inside.

I was honestly expecting Discord to team up with Tirek in an attempt to beat him, and that the episode was going to be about Fluttershy struggling to convince the group that Discord had not betrayed them. So you know, friendship saves the day. Not raw lazer power that only tacitly represents friendship. The entire episode felt so foriegn from the rest of the entire show, and I hope they don't do something like that again in season 5.

Other than that though, I loved the show!

Watch out, way too many people here have a strong emotional attachment to DBZ style laser fights

I don't mind action to much XD. It's just that it seemed SOOO out of place for MLP, and did nothing to advance the plot.

Wow. I don't think I ever binged a TV show or anything liken that.

That averages out to like 95 minutes a day. a bit more than 4 episodes a day.

I think once I watched 8 episodes in one day and then followed up the next with another 8 or so. And I was recovering from corrective eye surgery O.o

I wasn't really much of a DBZ fan, but I liked the battle scene in Twilight's Kingdom.

As for binge watching, I'm watching three episodes of "Bewitched" a night.

Aye, I won't call it the best scene of the show or even the episode, but I liked Heisei Godzilla laser battle. <3

Also, on binge-watching, watched ten episode of Game of Thrones yesterday, five more so far today... <3

I for one loved the little action moments... I know the elements of threat, peril and a bad guys are out of place for MLP... But it really shook things up and I can imagine people tuned in to see more of Discord... What's wrong with a little mild peril now and then? I thought the show could have used it... See uh I grew up with Superman, TMNT, Power Rangers DBZ and other various programs us guys watch. So MLP was an acquired taste... but I grew to like it more and more when some of them had these elements of trouble. Discord was jsut a delight to watch he makes me laugh with him doing his thing and having fun with it. I mean chocolate milk rain? Wow... And Rarity of course. Mine and your favorite pony... uh unicorn. But that episode with Tirek made me think more of Superman than DBZ. Granted both have similar elements... Well Superman also when he gets into fights, buildings and mountains crumble. But DBZ is good too. Not to nitpick to my man Supes but at least Goku will try getting the bad guys out to fight where there are no buildings or people who could get hurt.

DBZ was a bit much with battles that ran through multiple episodes, but Twilight's fight was needed for the resolution of the crisis. I thought it was great!

Now, I have to ask. Is Game of Thrones as good as everyone says? I just might have to hoist the Jolly Rodger and check it out.

Agreed; fully, and the episode was building up to a confrontation of some sort anyway. Granted I also enjoyed DBZ just for how fun it could be sometimes, but I though the Tirek/Twilight battle was well done.

Plus, watching group reactions of the episode on Twitter is always amusing. XD

As for GoT, IMO is has currently displaced Babylon 5 as my favorite series PERIOD. I'd recommend you check it out if you wish. I'm playing catch-up as I'm going through the third season now.

I personally loved the battle for the exact reason that it was out of place, it was something different than just "friendship...is powerful...you guise"

The longest I've binge-watched was the first season of American Horror Story which was around 12 hours in one day.

Other than that I've binge-watched DEXTER, around a season ([12] 45 minute episodes) for several days straight before finishing the last season (8) lol.

binge-watching is great, if only I did it less than something actually productive  :comeatus:

Twilight's fight was needed for the resolution of the crisis.

No it wasn't. Not even close.

- It did absolutely nothing for the plot.

- It harmed Twilight's characterization, reducing her to a point where she was actively attempting to kill purely out of vengeful bloodlust, clearly not giving two shits if any animals or other ponies were killed or if any homes were destroyed in the process.

- It did not contribute to getting Twilight her key.

That battle was absolutely nothing but a piece of brony-pandering garbage. And I now think less of Twilight because of it.

Good job. Now you can sit down with us and wait for season 5 to start. I bet you're excited.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Twilight's Kingdom is my favorite two-parter of the show. I thought the fight scene was very well-done and intense. It may seem out of place for a show like this, but that just added to the impact as these high-tension moments are few and far between in the show.

Twilight's anger and bloodlust is understandable. She had just lost her friends, and her library/home got blown up. There was a previous episode in the season establishing those books had sentimental value to her. If you were in her hooves and were over-flowing with powerful magic, you would probably have done the same.

The resolution was not a dues ex machine because it was built up for the entire season what was going to be in the mystery box. It didn't come out of nowhere. The two-parter also had great writing through out and an interesting villain who was actually very much a threat.

That's just my opinion, though, and you are free to have a different one. In any case, welcome to the herd. :)

I'm going thru the season again too... but this time I'm gonna try listening to the songs (I like Rarity's parts okay, I can stand her singing pretty well) Without muting or cringing... BTW, what's with that? Somepony gonna start signing then everypony just drops what they're doing and joins in. Doing Disney much MLP?! I just wanna point out there's no affiliation with MLP and Disney and they are not linked at all... However the musical bits make you think they could be even draw MLP wearing Disney Princess dresses... and especially when you think about a specific scene from the Disney film Fantasia. It's on Netflix if you haven't seen it or never? Dr.Wolf001, who did the video on it says in his video foes over this subject...

Here's the video if you wanna watch n see for yourself?

Well, frankly I do not agree with you in the least. Would you think more of Twilight if she just sat there and said "Woe is me?" and then was destroyed? Oh, and didn't you notice that the battle took place out in some kind of badlands, and there were no buildings, structures or living beings involved other than the two combatants?

Badlands? What badlands? Since when are there "badlands" located right beside Twilight's library? No, the battle took place directly along or around the borders of Ponyville since Twilight didn't bother to move it somewhere else so as not to accidentally destroy any other homes with her own blasts, which, I point out, could have happened since she didn't have the slightest grasp on her new power and only managed to control it during the fight simply because the plot called for her to (Yeah, truly terrific writing there.... >_>).

I'll tell you what though. I would have thought more of Twilight if she had acted much more like the rational pony she's always been portrayed as, rather than being utterly blinded by revenge and acting on simple impulse. I would have thought more of her if she engaged Tirek as a threat who needed to be dealt with, rather than simply out of retaliation because his actions had affected her personally.

In any case, the fact remains that the fight ultimately served absolutely no purpose in the episode whatsoever except for making bronies fangasm. Tirek could have just as easily gone straight up to Twilight with his ultimatum to give up her power in exchange for her friends, and the entire thing could have been skipped with no consequence to the outcome of the episode.

I absolutely detest everything about that fight scene. It is without doubt my least favorite moment in the show, it is without doubt Twilight's lowest moment in the show, and for as long as I live, I will never understand why people love it so much.

91 episodes at 22 minutes per episode is 33 hours and 22 minutes total and that's without commercials and the two Equestria Girls movies. Most Saturday morning cartoons didn't even last a full season. The only Saturday morning cartoon off the top of my head that had more episodes than Friendship is Magic as of this post is Garfield and Friends (that may change if FiM gets a sixth season).

I remember when YouTube came out, I binge watched a lot of Nickelodeon shows before Viacom got involved. The first show I binge watched was The Simpsons ever since the season DVD's started coming out. I stopped collecting by the 14th season even though it started to suck long before that. Even still, when I collect TV shows on DVD, I just rematch a few episodes I truly liked and save the others for another time. I did the same for My Little Pony. I got into it with "Pinkie Pride" and began with the episodes that advanced the plot before the slice of life episodes.

All twilight even did was give up her magic KNOWING she was going to open a box with a bigger better lazer inside.

At that point she was still lacking the sixth key, and she had no way of knowing that the thing dangling around Discord's neck happened to be it.

Badlands? What badlands? Since when are there "badlands" located right beside Twilight's library? No, the battle took place directly along or around the borders of Ponyville

From the scenery, and judging from Hasbro's map of Equestria, I'd suggest that the battle probably took place around Rambling Rock Ridge, which is where the Diamond Dogs live, and not very far from Ponyville.

she didn't have the slightest grasp on her new power and only managed to control it during the fight simply because the plot called for her to

She couldn't control them very well to begin with, as evinced by her difficulty lowering the moon and raising the sun, her renewed trouble with flying, and the random yellow sparks that kept coming from her. But later on, she has much better control of her new powers. How could that be explained?

If only Twilight Sparkle were an intelligent unicorn and a quick learner, often shown throughout the entire series studying and practising in order to hone her abilities... Oh wait, she is!

And if only she were shown going off into the woods on her own for a while, to be by herself, and then the camera left her to focus on other elements of the plot, so that we were able to assume she had at least some time to practise using her newly acquired powers... Oh wait, she was!

Could have sworn I saw trees and grass in the area where the fight took place. Of course, it's all laid to ruin now, so who knows. In any case, it doesn't make any sense that it would have taken place anywhere other than the border of Ponyville. The moment Tirek destroyed the library, she engaged him, and the battle did not move anywhere else (at least not until he threw her into a mountain).

And if only she were shown going off into the woods on her own for a while, to be by herself, and then the camera left her to focus on other elements of the plot, so that we were able to assume she had at least some time to practise using her newly acquired powers... Oh wait, she was!

Sure, she tried. But you know what happened? She failed and ended up teleporting in all sorts of places. So it was clear that just before the fight, she still had not gained control. But I guess that didn't matter, because moments later, she controlled it all perfectly, as if we somehow missed the montage of her attempting to gain control for the next several hours. And hell, she even used teleportation and yet she miraculously never ended up anyplace she did not intend to go.

It's bad writing, and this is only one example of it because the entire two-parter is chock full of it.
