Best: Rarity Takes Manehattan

I don't ever claim complete objectivity, and I'll tend to enjoy a Rarity-centric episode more than any other character due to how much I love her. This episode was her best, however, as it featured incredible character development that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, a wonderful song, and going to Manehattan to see how things were like was really top notch in comparison to the general setting of Ponyville. I have trouble saying "Suited for Success" is my favorite because the rest of the mane 6 were incredibly unlikable and I kind of wanted to slap RD and Pinkie for being so uncaring about what they had done. They totally fucked up her life ambition and something she had tirelessly worked for almost her whole life and they didn't even seem to care. I just can't say that is my favorite because of those performances, even if the strengths of SfS outweighed the strengths of RTM. So I hand the title to RTM :D

Worst: Sonic Rainboom

I absolutely despise this episode with every inch of my body and I want to mutilate the hands that typed up this abomination. This is the skidmark on the underpants of an otherwise great show. I like to refer to this episode as the "22 minutes of my life I'll never get back," because frankly that's exactly what it is. I refuse to look at pictures of that episode. I refuse to have anything to do with that episode whatsoever. Why?

Because I don't like getting angry and this episode makes me rage just to think about it.

I don't care what the situation is. NEVER martyr off and villainize a character that is a protagonist and generally considered to be a good guy for the sake of another character's development. I don't care what happened behind the scenes. I simply don't care. That is the cardinal sin in my book, and this episode committed it tenfold. It's even worse to me because it was my favorite character that they did it to and it opened up an absolute onslaught of hate towards her to boot

Fuck this episode and everything it stands for. I place about 75% of the blame for the hell Rarity fans caught for a few years in this fandom on this episode alone. It humiliated, degraded, and villainized an otherwise likable character just so Dash could do her stupid trick and look good while saving the day.

I just don't care. I generally try to avoid talking about this giant pile of elephant dung because it gets me a bit heated, but once in a while I can afford to splurge :P

BEST: Hurricane Fluttershy, Griffon the Brush-Off and The Best Night Ever. These episodes illustrate exactly what the show was meant to be: a morality play with simple lessons, strong writing, and meaningful main characters.

WORST: Owl's Well That Ends Well, The Mysterious Mare Do Well, and Magical Mystery Cure. Everything the best episodes did right, these episodes did wrong. The lesson was either contrived (Owl's Well) or hypocritical (Mare Do Well) because the way they arrived at it didn't make sense (MMC). The writing was weak (Owl in general) because the conflict was unnatural (MDW) or the ending felt like it came from a totally different episode if not a different show altogether (MMC). And the characters weren't meaningful because their bad habits were simply exaggerated (Owl & MDW) or they just had events projected on them (MMC).
