gaming Mewtwo Returning in SSB4. What's the big deal?

Earlier today, I saw this guy's reaction to Mewtwo returning as DLC in SSB4:

The reason I got excited for SSB4 was because we saw what we were predicting for so long become reality: Mario Vs Sonic Vs Mega Man Vs Pac-Man. Four different characters from four different gaming companies finally fighting each other in one game. But fans are more excited about one character who isn't even in-game content?

 

What is up with you people? What is so great about Mewtwo returning? BESIDES the fact that he is [a copy of] the most powerful Pokémon ever and we haven't seen him since SSB Melee! Give me a different reason!

Well, that's the thing: We haven't seen him since Melee. He was a super fun character, and Project M boosted his popularity by a TON. If you want to see just how powerful this Mewtwo is, look up a player on YouTube called MewtwoKing, this guy is a legend and is one of the highest ranking players in the SSB competitive scene, at least Project M wise. He shows just how truly terrifying Mewtwo is, and is a good reason why people are excited to see this character returning. Personally, I'm just happy they are releasing him for DLC, because if Nintendo expects me to buy a whole new console and game just for one character, I'll take my Mewtwo-less life thank you very much

I don't know much about the Smash community but I'm just going to say this.

 

To be honest, the first and only Smash game I've ever played was the new one, SSB4. I've never played Melee or any of the older versions, but to me Mewtwo doesn't seem that amazing? I mean, he's just another Pokemon.

I have no idea why the smash community loves Mewtwo so much. The only notable thing about him in Melee was that he was extremely tedious to unlock. Lucario is actually fairly similar to Mewtwo in terms of moves. Oh, and I only find Mewtwo to be an average fighter.

The reason YOU got excited for SSB4 is not the only reason that people could be excited for it. For me, I couldn't even possibly care less about Mario vs. Sonic vs. Mega Man vs. Pac-Man. Mewtwo's return is more exciting.

Look, I've never watched or played Pokémon growing up, I only heard of Mewtwo from the Nostalgia Critic's review of Pokémon:The First Movie and (I'll flat out say it): I've never played any of the Smash Bros games! Not even Brawl or Melee. I'm just following peoples' opinions on the series and the history of the series online. I didn't find Mewtwo's return as interesting as Mario Vs Sonic Vs Mega Man Vs Pac-Man because I've never played Melee! Mewtwo was a character we've played before in a previous game, whereas M V S V MM V PcM was something we've never seen before and it was something we have been predicting to be in the next game ever since Brawl's release.

I'm not understanding you here. No one is criticizing you for your opinion (having been excited for that character match-up), in fact it's a very popular one. You're the one who seems rather disgruntled with an opinion that you don't share.

Lots of fans(myself included) has wanted him to come back since he was unnecessarily cut from Melee(and it looks like they originally intended him to return since unfinished fighter data was found in the game)

 

It also opens up possibilities of more fighters appearing despite the game already being released(probably unlikely, but people still hope nonetheless). Honestly though, that's probably what most are really excited for

I'm excited for Mewtwo to return. He was a fun and unique character in Melee.

 

Also pairing Ganondorf and Mewtwo together at level 9 was a nightmare in Melee. It's like their AI was always in sync with each other.

Mewtwo is just extremely popular. Since PM made him amazing, I want Smash 4 Mewtwo. I mained him in Melee, played him in PM, and I just wanna stomp all of my friends with Mewtwo. Is that so wrong?

Mewtwo is arguably the most badass character in all of the Pokemon universe, possibly the most powerful as well.

 

I remember unlocking Mewtwo for the first time in Melee and all I could think was

 

 

Though he is a little difficult to control and never was one of my better characters (Lucario ftw, baby) he's still one of the early staples of the series. Everyone wanted a Mewtwo.

Yeah, Mewtwo was the original big name legendary of series along with mew. Mewtwo just gets a lot of love and is a classic as far as pokemon goes. What does he have, like, 3 movies now? 

 

And then he was replaced in Brawl by Lucario. I was flabbergasted. It was akin to replacing Pikachu with an Emolga (of course, pikachu is still the biggest face of Pokemon, what with the anime and all).

3)He is the only  removed character that didn't have a good reason. Snake was legal issues, Ice Climbers were technical issues, and Wolf, Young Link, Pichu, Lucas, Roy, and Dr. Mario were clones. And they took out Squirtle and Ivysaur because they wanted to get rid of transforming characters. Mewtwo had no legitimate reason to be taken out of Brawl, other than the fact that they had Lucario. (who, IMO, isn't even like Mewtwo)

 

EDIT: ALSO DLC. Mewtwo opened up - and pretty much guaranteed - the possibility of more DLC for Smash Bros. Waluigi will come, I'm sure of it. ;_;

Well, besides Pikachu, Mewtwo is arguably one of the most popular Pokémon ever. He was dark, cool, mysterious, and just overall badass! Mewtwo has been in the hearts of many Pokémon Trainers for decades, and seeing him in a game about Nintendo all-stars fighting each other made fans extremely happy. We were all saddened when he didn't come back for Brawl, and when we heard SSB4 was gonna be a thing, most of us were praying for Mewtwo to be in it. But then he wasn't, that saddened us even further, and I don't think most were expecting DLC for Smash Bros. But then, when we saw those feet, then the entire model, then "Mewtwo is On the Way!", our hearts exploded. Our Mewtwo was back. And he won't be forgotten.

Well, there's your reason right there. You never played Pokémon, so you have no idea what Mewtwo was and how big a deal he was back then. That, paired with thefact you didn't play Melee, also means that you didn't get to experience the joy Melee players had when they got to play as the legendary Mewtwo. See all that hype you have for Smash? All those reasons that made you want to get it? Grab all that interest, and replace the key parts with hype for Mewtwo.
