Is still a colt. He just got his cutiemark a while ago, learning to take advantage of his uncontrollable rage. his home in the everfree forest was attacked, and he protected his family and drove off the attackers all alone, despite the negative effects. He tries to get the feeling out of his head every time he gets sent into rage and pretends like it didn't happen, going back to his normal self. But this time, deep down he knew one day the time would come. He would need to harness his rage and learn to use it to his advantage, despite it being uncontrollable.

He hated being angry, but the good part was that very few things set him off. He finally realized it and was cool with having that ability. And that's when it appeared, a shield made of leaves surrounded by flames. His destiny was to protect the ones he loved with the strange power.

Miyamoto Musashi wrote "the pen and sword, in equal accord." That tenet is at the core of my philosophy. Hence my cutie-mark.

 

One needs both to be a balanced person. The sword without the pen is destruction, but the pen without the sword is impotence.

 

The strongest of men is nothing but a directionless brute without ideals and principal. The most erudite philosopher with no practical skill is weak and feckless.

 

"The pen is mightier than the sword." I, as a writer and martial artist, SPIT on that meme!

Pathfinder: He was a blank flank for a large part of his life, but he got his during his time at the historical academy in Derbyshire once a good friend of his pointed him in the right direction. Once he realized he always loved maps and cartography, it just hit him.

 

Sojourner: Found hers at a young age when a bookcase toppled over; dumping many books on her. She found a book on adevnture, read it, became enraptured by it, and found her cutie mark.

 

Corsair: His came during trials at the Wonderbolt academy. During a final test of his, he realized that he didn't want to really follow the rules of others and just enjoyed the pureness of flight. Finding his love of flight and freedom, his cutie mark appeared.

Tilt's Cutie Mark Story

Tilt is a pegasus pony born in Cantergo, Whinnynois. Ever since she was a little filly she had a affinity for arcades, trotting from arcade to arcade in search of fun and merriment. But one day she would discover something called a pinball machine. She put one bit in, then another, then another, then another and then another!

Tilt kept playing until a pony approached her noting her score and told her about an upcoming tournament for young colts and fillies that was coming up during the annual Whinnynois pinball expo. Upon hearing this she rushed home begging her parents if she could go, once she convinced them the next few days were spent learning the in's and out's of pinball machines. Even going as far as checking out books from the library to figure out how they were built.

The day had finally arrived for the pinball expo to get underway, her eyes lit up like she was in a candy shop. The intoxicating bells and whistles as balls were hitting bumpers, the lightshows whenever somepony hit the jackpot. It was like a little slice of heaven as she rushed around looking at every pinball machine, but not gawking, analyzing. Any one of these machines could be what she plays in the tournament.

An announcement had came over the convention halls speakers telling all participants of the young pro's pinball competition to head to the centre stage to sign up for entry. Like a bolt of lightning she was there almost being the first to sign up. Once the contest got underway she was like none of the other fillys or colts there. She was racking up scores that were making some of the adult ponies cheer and whistle.

Soon the finals was upon her and it was down to her and a pony named 'Flipper Trick' it was a close battle but she beat his score and as the crowd cheered and other colts and fillys lifted her up for victory, her cutie mark appeared on her flank. A cream coloured flipper with a red rim with a pinball resting just above the bottom of the flipper.

Nevermore Midnight:  Never became fantasized by the occult and legends after

her older brother Soot gave her a random book to read so she would stop

talking his ear off while trying to study.   Now the line she tried her hoof

at making her own amulets and potions from books and had a talent it

seems!  She got her cutie mark after one potion blow up her face but worked

and glowed!

Given their technological standard, I decided one of those would be for the best. Rather than a simple candlestick, somehow I settled upon a candelabra.

The question is about how your OC discovered their special talent and realized what they wanted to do with their life (thus earning a cutie mark). It's not about how you came up with the design of said cutie mark.

Silhouette Dusk, before her ascension, wanted to contribute and better her country. As her parents were royalty, she was raised in castles, from the crystal palace of her birth to her home in Castle Everfree. She wanted the buildings of Equestria to be just as beautiful as the castles she was raised in, and was rather disappointed to find shoddy thatched roof buildings in the cities and hunks of giant crystal with holes carved into them for buildings.  So she set about studying the buildings and architecture that intrigued her,  fascinated by all the feats of engineering, the preciseness of the calculations, the various utilitarian & aesthetic applications of the building materials, the blending of art and science in the construction, and how the makers of the buildings, the ones who designed & built them, had that building left as a testament to their ideas & efforts, long after they had gone away. Even though she might not get the opportunity to earn Alicorn status like her parents did, she could still be remembered for helping Equestria as much as they did. 

 

It was when her design for the construction of a castle in the newest city of Canterlot was chosen out of hundreds of others, and when she participated in all facets of the buildings construction, from breaking the new ground to the last drop of paint, that she earned her cutie mark,  a gothic style castle, half built, half blue print outline, on her flank.

Timey Marey made around a couple of hourglasses, and they were quite impressive enough for a little filly as young as her to make. She therefore got her hourglass cutie mark, and she was destined to open the finest clock shop in Canterlot, and she earns damn good from it.

(NOTE: If this story feels a little rushed, it's because I'm still in the process of reworking the half-changeling bits into the story, and it's proving challenging with so little canon I have to work with (It's not everyday you see a half-pony half-changeling hybrid.))

 

Tap got his cutie mark in his fourth year of Flight School (He went to one that teaches it extensively, his mom insisted it despite his dad thinking he should be home schooled at both flight because he is a pegasus (technically) and also in changeling magic from his dad due to him being half changeling, mom was always better at winning arguments.) He had plenty of friends and loved to sit around with them in the clouds and play video games as much as they could. One day, the 3 friends decided to try their hand at each making their own game, since they loved them so much.

 

The first one gave up on around day 2, when he ran into an unfixable bug.

The second one gave up when he got his flight Cutie Mark because he wanted to fly as much as he could.

However, Tap quickly finished his first game. He then got the two friends to send them their games, and he finished those too. When he showed his friends, the three fell in love with the games Tap had made., and before long, the three gears appeared on his flank.

Rave had always been fascinated with maps and learning about more places, always having fun exploring. One day (when he was a foal), in Manehattan, another foal got lost. Rave already knowing most of Manehattan like his own hoof, was able to help the other foal get back to where he last saw his mother by listening to his description of the place. Rave immediately knew what place the foal was talking about and led him back and the foal was reunited with his mother. That is when the cutie mark appeared on Rave. Rave's special talent is navigation.
