But what i EXPECT from ANYPONY who is on this forum! If your going to spend the energy, to move fingers via your keyboard to SEND ME A PERSONAL MESSAGE, then it better damn well not be filled with "I think your in the wrong fandom" or "wow opinionated much" or "Rarity is not best pony" or my fav "omg your a fag".

 

I have been, what we call a "Brony" since 1989, didnt realized in 2015 i would be shat on for that title by the very people who-gave-me-that-title.

You know, age keeps getting brought up here. Of all the forums I've been too, this place cares the least about age. I'm 38 applejock. I have never once felt any member here treat me any differently because I'm 'old'. I repay that in kind and to those members who are younger than I, I treat them as complete equals. I only bring this up because age shouldn't matter in a fandom centered around enjoying a show that society expects to be tailored for young grade school kids. The truth is, it doesn't matter. This forum reinforces that.

Do you actually have a point to make that would open up a discussion or are you just ranting? Since you're so insecure about your age, given that any time anyone even mentions age you say "oh, that's right, I'm old" I would say that from your posts I would never have guessed you were 30. As for the flak you apparently receive, I've never experienced any of it but maybe that's because I don't act like you have done in this thread, almost challenging people to disagree with you as if that would support your point. Why do you get hate? It probably isn't because you are a brony, it's probably because some people just don't like you.

It a diverse community which by and large is a good thing but certain segments of that can butt heads at times but that is the case with major fandoms in general not just the one that happens to involve cartoon ponies. One thing I have noticed that is unique to the brony fandom though is how defensive a lot of bronies are to the opinions of others this is somewhat understandable due to all the bullying and harassment a lot of bronies go though with all these ridiculous accusations of homosexuality, manchildism and worse yet pedophilia along with the rather extreme cases like Michael Morones being driven to the point where he attempted suicide. This defensiveness has also given rise to a cadre of assholish white knights that have an irresistible urge to be the judge and jury over the entire fandom by using certain parts of the fandom they don't like like cloppers for example for the negative opinions people have of bronies or for "ruining the fandom" as if it is some kind of religion when ironically if anyone can be said to be ruining it it is them. I think many of these white knights do have self hatred because the phrase "thou doth protest too much" comes to mind. Of course there are also the pushy bronies but nearly everyone dosen't like them and for good reason.

MLP has a lot of younger fans associated with it plus it is the internet. I have gotten nothing but praise for my pony stuff in the real world* yet mostly ridicule from the internet. Haters gonna hate.

 

However I do have a bit of a distant relationship with the fan base. We can be a bit obnoxious and frankly... weird. However I am in the fandom for the ponies and myself... and the occasional song.

That's a fandom for yah; bronies are really no different from fans of Sonic, Star Trek, and sports. It has nothing to do with self hate; it's just that some people are more critical; and I am not saying that in a bad way at all.

It sounds more like the thread is about what people are willing to say face to face, and what they are willing to say through a keyboard?

I'm not saying that every PM should have a persons phone number on it, or the senders home address, but it would stop a few messages written in haste in the heat of the moment from being sent?

Seeing this post reminded me of an old thread that I think everyone should check out, or at least the first post. And then there's my response to it. This goes back to October of 2012. As you can see, the sentiments expressed about possible self-loathing by the community and related concerns are hardly new. Since the very early days, bronydom has contended with this, yet it lives on and continues to thrive and grow. Naturally, with that growth comes a spike in those negative elements that the vast majority of us want to leave alone. The trolls, argumentative jerks, etc. Always been with us, always will be, and their numbers will continue to increase even as the amount of sincere and even-keeled bronies does.

 

 

I am the community as much as any other brony, and I don't hate myself or anyone else in the fandom. Most I've met can claim the same. Don't take this as me shrugging off the concerns expressed here, as I'm certainly not doing that and not denying that there are problems. All I'm saying is that there's undesirable elements present in everything, and I can gladly say that those are outweighed in our fandom by the positive elements, in my experiences. Just sweep aside what you don't like and try to move on as if nothing happened. There are too many potential friends and good times to be had to allow them to be tainted by some outliers who are determined to spread misery or be miserable themselves. Not always easy, but it's definitely possible to overcome them. I've been at this since May of 2011 with no desire to leave.

I agree.  I wish that we could all just get along.  Just because we have opinions doesn't mean that we have to argue about it.  We can have opinions, while still accepting that others can have opposing opinions, all the while remaining friends without conflict.  The same goes with the entire world.  If we could just accept the fact that we all have different opinions, without feeling like we constantly need to argue about it, the world would be a much better place.

Forgive me if i'm not on the right track here, since i'm no good at comprehension in stuff like this, but if you're talking about hypocrisy in the fandom...

I'll be honest, there are certain things about the fandom I don't like, and there are most things I love about the fandom. Usually people who don't want others to think that they like MLP will usually go against themselves and 360 their opinions on the fandom. Some bronies dislike other bronies for certain things that they do, some bronies don't like things about the fandom in general, or some bronies don't like the fandom but love MLP. See where i'm getting at?

So if I had to say if the community as a WHOLE hates on themselves, no not really. But a variety of qualities within the fandom or the fandom itself? Absolutely. I believe everybody is entitled to pet peeves or have a certain perspective on the brony community.

Well, from what I think, diversity will inevitably generate conflict. 

 

Because the brony fandom is primarily based around accepting anyone from any background, it is probably one of the most diverse groups of people around. That is sometimes good, it does show unity across many borders, but in the end, some people just cant mix at all. Id really love for us all to be like the show we watch, to settle differences in opinion in a more peaceful manner, but until then, we unfortunately have to contend with a reality of the world, is that bullets will fly. 

 

It can be from simple arguments to full on fighting. Thankfully, and I hope im right, this fandom doesnt degrade itself to fisticuffs, even though we sometimes do come close, with venomous personal attacks with some other bronies who we dont agree with. At least we dont have maniacs running down the street yelling "Solar Empire forever" and killing a bunch of innocent people. Yea, I am lookin at you, religious fanatics. 

 

So thats a good thing, at the least. A little improvement.

I think different options forum different fractions in the fandom and those hate each other. You'll see this behavior on smaller forum sites where certain way of thinking is assimilated and differing options are rejected.
