King Sejong 859 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 One of the main reasons that kept me from joining the herd earlier, was the nitpicking and critical inquisition that was occurring, so I wondered if they actually liked the show, or someone behind the scenes. Although, I have no problem with complains, but when I keep hearing the same complaints and same complainers, it acts as a deterrent so it keeps me away from the fandom for days or weeks. I came to realise it was a minority, but an elite and vocal minority, that seems to believe their ideas are superior, and we are all subject to their opinions, such as what is canon or fanon, or determine if the episode is flawed based on mechanical performance, like continuity or plot; character development or dialogue. I enjoy the show for what it is, family entertainment, any form of media is going to have mistakes and hiccups, like a glitch in a video game, that plays to your advantage, if you still enjoy it, no one has the right to tell you that you must not like an episode or whole season, opinions will vary, nevertheless I say show some respect, just as the lyrics in MST3k say, " Just repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax ...". But then again, if this is something that legitimately bothers them about the and it's the topic of discussion at hand, then why should they have to remain silent on the matter? ghostfacekiller39 23,880 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 Not by any means, but going overboard on an episode is just silly. Well, in some people's eyes they'd agree, but the issue is that what constitutes going overboard differs greatly from person to person. For example, I wrote a blog detailing why I didn't like Sonic Rainboom the other day and I'm sure many people felt that I was going overboard, but I personally felt it to be within the boundaries of fair criticism due to the fact these were legitimate issues I couldn't ignore when watching that episode. So this issue you're having with the fandom going overboard with the negative opinions of the show because the definition of going overboard varies so much from person to person. What I try to do nowadays after being around for a while is when I see something the fandom does that annoys or bothers me, I just try to pay no mind to it and it really works in the best interests of all parties that way. Maybe that's how you should handle this situation? 4 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Check out the Rarity Fan Club! "Not everyone who is pretty is necessarily beautiful. Thrashy 2,800 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 I get what people are saying about every fandom having its complainers, but I think ours takes it just a bit too far with its oversaturated sub-community of "show analysts" who hold this cartoon's writing to a ridiculously higher standard than it really needs to be. I can understand a show with complex writing aimed at mature audiences like The Walking Dead having an in-depth fan analysis show like The Talking Dead, but does a cartoon like MLP really warrant a bunch of 20-something year olds - who are well older than the show's core demographic, whether some of us want to admit that or not - making YouTube videos whining about the most trivial of trivial horseshit like "Ooh, Pinkie was so meeeean in that episode, so OOC!" or "Omigosh why did they make Daring Do real? The show's RUINED now."? There's a difference between voicing one's likes/dislikes and what I refer to as bitching. And IMHO, this fandom in particular seems to do a lot more of the latter than most others I've seen.
Sidral Mundet 1,666 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 Well people complaining usually means they care, it's just the Internet has a way of bringing the worst of it to the foreground. That being said wanting is usually better than having so I always try to lower my expectations so I don't try to overhyped an episode, like I did with Bats! Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.
Prince Firemane 309 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 It seems that a lot of people, like Digibro in his latter videos, are actually looking for excuses to not like the show anymore and will hate and bash if others don't feel the same way they do. It's crap like that is why I don't identify as a brony in my real world life. I'll tell people that I like the show and everything, but if they ask me if I consider myself a brony I say no. They are a small, yet incredibly verbose minority of bronies, but they're so loud and domineering that everyone thinks we're all like that. CC_Maud_Pie 6,431 March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 No matter what fandom you can think of, there will always be complainers. All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.
Jeric 46,890 March 18, 2015 Share March 18, 2015 Now here is the mother of comparisons. We have it good ladies and gentlemen. We have it good. BEHOLD THE DESTROYER OF FANDOMS AND CHILDHOOD MEMORIES! After Episode 1: TPM was released in 1999, and throughout the Prequel Trilogy releases, the sheer volume and intensity of negativity online by the fans was deafening. As I detest rape jokes ... I will not repeat one of the largest comments related to this era. I helped launch a fairly popular Star Wars message board during this time, I attended several Celebrations, the Brony fandom is tame with its negativity. The self hate and the hatred toward the younger fanbase now growing up with a new batch of stories was palpable. This was before YouTube and popularized and accessible social media platforms. I shudder when I think what I would have had to endure if these films started around 2007 and 2008. Star Wars wasn't meant to be as deeply analyzed as it was either. Brony complaining is downright adorable in comparison.
Tom Snyder 4,113 March 18, 2015 Author Share March 18, 2015 Its alright to speak what you want to, but cursing will not make it go away. I only take a look at one aspect of an episode and only focus on that, like my other conversations in topics, one being how would Celestia deal with NM when she can't use the elements anymore or that good intentions will always have bad side effects. I love hearing what people think, but going too far into it is like having sour milk. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. //// My persona and OC: Candy Star //// Ask me anything: Ask Candy Star //// My Music //// //// My DA: (OC requests available) ////

Brony complaining is downright adorable in comparison. Boy, tell me about it? I was once a huge, huge, HUGE Star Wars geek in my teen years. I wasn't there during the release of Episode 1, but you could still feel the anger of it in 2004, when i got active. When Episode 3 came out (which was the best movie of the prequels) i seriously couldn't go into forums anymore. 70% of the users where complaining how bad this movie was and how George Lucas needs to be shot and that he's a prick and so on. Considering that our show makers where never openly threatend with death (except for that time when Equestria Girls was announced, which is the worst thing that this fandom did) i still think that it's really chill in this fandom compared to most fandoms and i am thankful for that. Tom Snyder 4,113 March 19, 2015 Author Share March 19, 2015 I'm not attacking or complaining about them, but people tend to think too much about a show directed at kids. LZRD WZRD 1,929 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 I think it's fine to complain about things, just so long as you are respectful about it and have a reaction that is somewhat proportional to the sin in question. For example, someone flipping out and being in tears because Flash Sentry made a 2 second cameo in an episode is extreme. Someone rolling their eyes upon seeing him and moving on would be a more appropriate reaction. But ya know, opinions, so act crazy over a show for little girls if you want. Just don't expect me not to roll my eyes at you 4 Check out my channel for awesome video reviews and analysis! https://www.youtube.com/c/LZRDWZRD
UnknownFry 169 March 19, 2015 Share March 19, 2015 (edited) There is a fine line between being constructive criticism and being hyper critical. Some people cross that line to the extreme, and others are able to keep it in check. Edited March 19, 2015 by UnknownFry
