Fanfiction and its place in the media

So today in school we were asked to brainstorm topics to use for 1 minute speeches. I considered trolling with a brony topic but thought better. I asked what is your opinion on fanfiction and its role in the media? So what do good people think?

Its role in the media?  I... don't really know.  Lots of people still don't know what fanfiction is, those who do tend to keep their fanfiction reading or writing habits to themselves, and anytime it crops up in media, it's usually that poor fanfiction is the butt of some joke, but that's it.

Thats very interesting... It does seem to be a good way to practice writing (not that i'm a writer)

Sadly but true but  I love writing fanfic of many shows/cartoons/anime and its helped me to find  my weak points to work on but also

deal with the haters!

Fallout Equestria is possibly the best thing I've ever read. 1984 is up next for me, so I expect this to possibly change. Fanfiction can be really good, so show the really good. (Turnabout Storm, FEq)

Yeah it sucks that Fifty shades of gray is the only thing that represents fanfiction in popular media, maybe if we got them to read FoE.  what if we got FoE movie then!
