ART3MIS 23 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Did I join the fandom too late? Do you think the fandom will still exist in a couple years? I just joined the herd a few days ago, and I am fairly new. FiM is in to it's fifth season. I want to have a great time bring apart of the fandom, but will it be short lived?
mars 4,862 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 It's never too late to join the fandom! Welcome to the herd. I wouldn't worry too much, I recall a Hasbro representative saying the show won't end for a long time. Besides, I'm sure that bronies will continue to live on. Sort of how Harry Potter fans still thrive even though both their movies and book series has ended.
Discordian 6,015 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Most big fandoms exist long after the product in question is no longer being made. Even if the fifth was the last season you'd still have many years of bronies to take part in. People will inevitably miss the show and make their own content. Whatever the next generation of MLP is will surely have fans for it, especially if they keep high production values.
RivkaBobble 110 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Welcome to the herd! There's no joining the fandom too late. Even when the show ends, fans will live on and talk about episodes, maybe even looking deeper into them because there are none left to look lightly at. There is also so much fan made content that even when people are getting bored at looking through episodes they'll be able to go through that. 3 Mail carrier Derpy is best pony But Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are cool too
SoGxTrixie 116 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 We're not going anywhere at least Trixie isn't, I'm pretty new also joined about a few months ago. FIrst step get a favorite pony, love your favorite pony, Though I would say keep your favorite pony. But all of the ponies are so good, so love them all! (except flash sentry). Also creating or forming a OC early with it's own back-story may be useful to you in the future, so it's never to late to start thinking of idea's. 3 http://shinigamide.tumblr.com/ Twilight < Trixie
Ashen Pathfinder 16,161 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 I became a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica, which was broadcast for one season in 1978, in either 1999 or 2000. Did I become a fan too late then? 1 Pathfinder I Sojourner I Corsair | Zu'hra I Autumn | Scarlet Willow | Gypsy | Silverthorn | Crystal Whisper | Radiant Historia | And many other OCs~ Matching signatures with mah Bestie MOONLIGHT <
Grumpy Enchantress 586 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 I think you missed out on the best episodes when they were new, personally, but I missed a lot of them too. It's still never too late to enjoy the show.
SkullcandyPegasus 604 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 I think you are asking if you are too late for the "glory days." What counts is that the people you associate with in the fandom retain a definite level of interest. Many of the original bronies have lost interest, but the doesn't imply a dying fandom. With more episodes to watch than ever before, it stands to reason that the fandom would be larger now.
Commissar Alexer 763 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Fandom is already collapsing. Many artists have left and constant interfighting between several subgroups is tearing it more and more apart. ArDee 100 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 (edited) Most big fandoms exist long after the product in question is no longer being made My thoughts exactly. Just look at shows like Firefly. That only lasted one season and there's still a cult following for it to this day. I recall a Hasbro representative saying the show won't end for a long time. Well, obviously. Hasbro, at its heart, is a large multinational corporation. As long as something remains a cash-machine, I can guarantee you that they won't let it die. Which is both a good and a very bad thing, since after a while of milking a series it becomes just as soulless as its corporate parent. The fandom wouldn't stand for that, of course, but Hasbro has zero obligation to please us by killing a successful-but-soulless series just because it's fallen out of our favor. Ultimately, we're not the ones controlling the My Little PonyTM IP. Look at how EA are milking pretty much every single one of their franchises to death. In SimCity's case, literally. The Sims has turned into a vapid pile of garbage. Need for Speed has been reduced to a shitty mobile game. Maxis Emeryville got shuttered because they plowed its reputation into the dirt with that horrific SimCity launch and EA didn't want to fess up to it themselves. The Sims, SimCity, Maxis...It's like they're purposefully shitting all over Will Wright's legacy just to spite him. [/rant] ...But I digress. The Awesome One 1,315 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Welcome to the herd! Hope you have a fun time here. To answer your question, if I am completely honest then I would say that this fandom does not feel that active to me as it seemed back when I first became a brony (which was somewhere in late 2011, I found this forum the next year in March). You may not have been there when some really good episodes came out or when Twilight got turned into an Alicorn princess or we finally saw Vinyl Scratch's eye color but better late than never, right? I'm currently in the middle of episode 11 of season 1. I started watching FiM three days ago. The art style and character design are great, the characters are lovable, and the show is not filled with the crap that is currently in shows like uncle grandpa(I hate that thing). Aleh 481 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 (edited) Nah. Fandoms fine atm. Still going strong.Few of the original members of the fandom may be getting bored, but new people are joining eveyday Fandom is already collapsing. Many artists have left and constant interfighting between several subgroups is tearing it more and more apart. lol no. Drama =/= collapsing. As long as the show is still on, the fandom will remain mostly active. After the show it'll probably stay about for a bit as well tbh. Fandoms tend to do that. Are you referring to Baby Cakes, which is in broadcast order? or do you mean, Hearts Warming Eve, which is in production order? And Welcome to the Herd, ART3MIS! I myself joined the Herd 2 years ago right after Season 3 finished its first run. And I'm glad it's not going away anytime soon! TheJLeeTeam 914 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 I'm sure this fandom will continue after FiM is over. Besides maybe the next generatlion of MLP will be good too. And I heard we still have at least 4-5 years of FiM left i think. Grepper 3,192 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 I don't think it's possible to join a fandom too late. Even if MLP was canceled tomorrow, (it obviously won't be) the fandom would exist for many years. I joined the fandom in November 2014, and I don't think that was too late.
The Awesome One 1,315 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Lets put it in simpler words. If this was a party. You have arrived late and a bit closer to the end than the start. However while you might have missed the good 'ol days but you have only just joined the herd, you have so many episodes to see and not to mention Equestria Girls and some fan-made content too. Yeah you are late, but too late would have been if you joined after the show ended.
AlbaTross 1,586 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 Wow, I joined the fandom just over a year ago, and I'm starting to feel like a veteran member of the community. In other words, to answer the OP, no. There are new people joining the fandom all the time and I've seen fandoms thrive around shows that have had much shorter runs than FiM has had, not to mention shows that have been off the air for quite some time. FiM is still going, is currently in its 5th season, and it's highly doubtful the fandom would just pack up overnight if the show were to end right now. It's pretty easy to catch up on all the past episodes as well as both films, and most of the comics if you're curious about them. There's a whole world of fan content too that will blow your mind. Welcome to the herd. I can guarantee that you're no more than fashionably late to the party.
Sommar 1,289 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 (edited) First off, welcome to the forums! You are not late to the fandom at all. Since you're new, you have so much to explore and discover! You have a ton of episodes to watch as well as an opportunity to make friends. And the fandom is certainly not short lived. This fandom is one of if not the biggest and strongest fandom out there. Even after the show ends (which won't be for a long time), I'm sure the fanbase will be strong as ever! Anyway, I hope you have fun! Steel Accord 6,660 May 1, 2015 Share May 1, 2015 (edited) It's never too late. I'll admit, you missed a helluva time in the early years. The initial rush, the first Cons, the Derpy Incident, The Shining Armor debacle. Good times. Still there are more good times ahead and more to be had. Look at Trekkies. They've been around for years even when Star Trek had long gone off the air. We've even demonstrated the ability to make show quality content, so we'll never be want of our passion.
