Is cursing bad? Are you desensitized to it? Does swearing show maturity?

Truthfully, this is a topic that matters only to those destined and determined to believing that cursing is essentially 100% evil. I don't want to be one of those 'guys', but I declare that is a load of bull. I'll agree it's common sense to keep it under control where it is unnecessary but in it's own way, cursing exudes more honestly. If you want to label someone as insensitive or a hater for using such language, that's your business and opinion. I personally think it's bunk that it has to pushed just not curse because people are but hurt over not even 10% of human speech. So what if I curse? Are you going to try and make a federal case about in attempts of sending me to jail? That would be both a waste of law official's time and closed minded way to deal with the problem.

Also the whole 'Don't say God's name in vain' thing is not really cared about since most everyone on the planet swear using 'God Damn It' or 'Jesus Christ'. It's really a waste of time if only a few people heed to such a rule. Then again this is my opinion on the matter. If you do not agree fine, I'll respect that.

I dislike swearing a whole lot. I used to swear a ton, and I was a pretty angry person (Though I laughed, joked around, and was nice on the outside). I've wondered why I did it. My reasons were: To reduce stress and get rid of anger. But now that I'm not swearing and censoring my thoughts from anything that can be considered negative, I'm happy, full of joy, and wish peace to everything. Sounds extreme, but it's true. Shocker to me most of all, since I knew my mind way better then anyone else did, and it was pretty messed up. I'm still proud of my change.

I digress... Point is, to answer the questions in one sentence. Yes, I believe it causes negativity to the one swearing and everyone else around him or her. Maybe in small ways undetectable. Fun fact, when a plant is grown with instrumental music playing in the background it grows fine, but with consistent rap played instead, the plant dies. :)

Depends who I am around, of course I don't swear around my grandmother, but I do when I'm around my friends. Most swears don't hurt anyone, I guess people just deemed certain words bad for no reason.

Racist, homophobic, etc words are the ones I don't say. They were made for the sole purpose of putting down others.

No, not at all. They're a few of many complex sounds we are able make with our mouth. I'd honestly like to know how they came to be considered offensive in the first place.

I curse around my friends and that's pretty much it.

It really just depends on how relaxed I am. Sometimes I only say curse words to convey strong feelings, sometimes I say them like I'd say any other word.

...But that's just my opinion.

PERSONALLY: I don't really think cursing is a thing.. I don't really get it. They're just words, the only reason I don't say them at all times is because people find it "offensive" somehow. If anyone thinks the words ARE offensive please explain why they are. I don't get it.

Cursing is fine. I am desensitized to it. It does not show maturity or make me cool, I just like to say those words on occasion when I think it helps emphasize how angry/agitated I am about something, when I think it could increase the effectiveness of a joke, or just when I'm in the mood to.

I understand there are situations where cursing would be considered inappropriate, and that some people don't like those words. Fine, I can understand, but I'm not going to desperately try to censor myself at all times for the sake of other people. Personally, if I consider myself friends with someone I'd like to be able to act naturally how I usually would, which includes a curse here and there. I'd also hate if somebody I considered a friend tried to continuously censor themselves for my sake. I consider it more respectful to be comfortable enough to act naturally around someone, then to be polite through censorship.

words carry a lot of weight and power to them. That's why someone can be verbally abusive- because those words hurt and can deeply upset the person you're slinging them at. Cussing doesn't make me respect you (general you), and would only lower my opinion of you if you had to resort to swearing, because I'd think that you had a limited vocabulary, The base word of profanity is "Profane", which means Sinfulness or sacrilege, acts which violate the sacred or the good; to debase by a wrong, unworthy, or vulgar use

you may say it's just words, but the definition of those words your using is pretty awful, as you can see.

I personally don't swear due to personal reasons, but I have absolutely no problem with others swearing. While it is worth mentioning that there is a time and place for everything, and swearing is no exception; I do think that swearing can have its place. Swearing, if used correctly, can be used well in comedy, and can really show emotion (however, you kinda need to to use strong language sparingly if you're going for emotion).

Cursing itself isn't the problem, if there ever was one.

It's all about situational awareness, meaning that there's a time where cursing might not be the best idea, and then there's a time where you can fucking curse all you fucking want, you feel me?

At one point, I used to think that people were simply overreacting to a taboo they themselves constructed. I still think that's true to an extent. However, ever since I watched Vsauce talk about why bad words exist, I now think that it is for the best that forbidden words exist.

If someone is pent up with frustration after having a bad day, what better way to let it all out without actually doing anything harmful than to use these declared taboo words?

Besides playing GTA.

So basically, I'm pro-swearing, as well as pro-anti-swearing, if you will. We need those people who think swearing "pollutes the mind and air with indecent thoughts". If swearing isn't considered offensive, then that defeats the purpose.

I have imaginary friends, and I worship god. Everytime I swear I go, sorry god. Because I'm scared you will go to hell for it. And that my imaginary friends won't like me. I do swear when I want to, but when I'm playing something that does not typically have swearing, I don't swear. For a wierd reason. I swear at home, but rarely in public. And I understand the power of the ''c'' word. I heard that even the word ''Butch'' is deemed as offensive as the ''c'' word to some people. And the ''n'' word is a racial slur so you can get arrested for being a racist. If you ask me, I don't know why it's offensive. ''Fuck'' originally started as a word to indicate sex, and it was an accurate word in medieval times ''fokken'' meant to breed. So why is it so offensive? Perhaps it means ''I hate you so much that you are the most revolting person in the world''. the ''c'' word, ''n'' word, and ''Fuck'' are perhaps basically saying ''You are the most revolting person in the universe'' I dunno. Or it's universal, the only reason why sex is disgusting is because it was dangerous to do in the old days because of creatures. I think the problem is, swear words generally mean hate. Infinite hate.

Is Cursing Bad

-Maybe.For a person's Self-Image of how people see them,If they curse often.People will see them as rude,or impolite,Or someone undesirable to talk to.

Are you desensitized by cursing

-Somehow,Yes.Because Cursing is almost becoming a everyday thing.Sadly,

Does Swearing Shows Maturity

-Most of the time,No.But i find it funny when Actors Curse on movies/films makes them even more mature.

Do you Curse and Swear

-Yes,But if i'm trying to be funny to my friends,or i'm angry. But with other people/Normal and General Conversation. No

To me it's just another language I use when I'm with my friends. It became a habit.

I've never really "chosen" to swear, it came naturally because everyone was swearing. And I don't think it has anything to do with maturity.

Swearing is the dialect of friends.

I don't see cursing as bad but it does need to be kept under control of some sort. People who curse all the time just annoy me. Plus there are certain cituations where you shouldn't curse, like talking to your boss and stuff.

I have heard pretty much all my managers swear on at least one occasion except for maybe my current main store manager but I have heard my assistant manager the most often. In all cases it has been in the backroom where customers can't hear. The ones with the filthiest mouths tend to be the night crew/graveyard managers because it is so easy when there aren't any customers around.

Personally, I don't see cursing as something to look at someone badly for. I don't like it, but that's my problem. I more don't see the reason why the curse words are necessary. There are other better ways to express a point in my opinion. Sure, the hard sounds in a bad word can almost make saying them satisfying, and in a way makes saying a bad word help express your opinion. Other times it just slips out. So, I'm willing to see the other side of this, but that said I personally think there's better ways to express an opinion without saying it that way.

I'm not gonna say cursing is good nor will I say it's bad though. You know, people are free to express themselves however they want as long as it's not hurtful. What I said above is just how I feel, but I can separate my feelings enough to be perfectly fine with anyone that does use curse words. Just don't hurt anyone in the process.

Depends on the context and how it's used when you swear. I swear all the fuckin time. I'm not immature, it's just part of the NorCal accent. We cuss nearly every other fuckin word and say 'hella' alot. \(o.o)/ Ain't nothin wrong with that.

Does swearing some something about you? Positive or negative?

Depends on the usage and the attitude of the person using it.

Is cussing a serious matter?

Only if you make it out to be.

Do you take steps to avoid cussing, or do you actively (or occasionally) swear, yourself?

I tend to swear in everyday conversation. Just the way I talk, man.

Do you notice when someone cusses around you? Does it bother you, or are you desensitized?

Once again, it depends on their attitude. If they're cussing at me like and angry first grader who just learned some cuss words then yeah. If it's used more for comedic purpose or emphasis, then no.

Do you think the bible says anything about cussing?

I wouldn't know, and don't care to.

:eww: Honestly?
I can care very little if you let out a cuss word every once in a while, but it does very much bother me because I do consider cussing to be foul. I don't even do it, or at least try to replace it with simple words like "biscuit" or "butter-nutter"...stuff like that.

To those people who cuss every five seconds, or think it makes them mature or something...it's not cool. In fact, it makes me cringe.

That mostly just annoys me because overusing any word regardless of what it is a personal pet peeve of mine. The word "like" for example is one of the overused in the English language, I mean like come on like you would think like people would use like uh a dictionary or something. And don't get me started on textspeak and how much that is bastardizing the English language.
