Why did they change Applebloom's talent?

At the beginning, they made the CMC's talents obvious to the viewers. (almost to the point of shoving it in our faces) However, it seems that now they pretty much changed AB's talent from carpentry to potions. But, why?

I do not know. I guess they wanted to show us that it is not the only thing she is good at so we can"t tell what her cutie-mark will be because before this it was always going to be a hammer.

i think it's so they can further use this in future episodes. maybe we get a future CMC episode revolving around her making potions that have unwanted side effects or something?

i'm just speculating here tough :P

I think it was probably because they hadn't really thought about it at the time and they're now preparing for when it's gonna happen. I also don't think it would make much sense to have Scootaloo's special talent be riding her scooter as surely she would have gotten it by now.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

Did you see that "table" she built in "Stare master” or the stage set from " show stoppers”? Not so sure carpentry is her thing. However, in "Bridal gossip" not only was she the first to not be afraid of and befriend Zecora, she helped her make the potion that cured the poison joke. Not that the episodes are in any cronoLOGICal orded, but " bridal gossip" did air before the other two.

Also, in modern agriculture, potion making (chemistry) is probably as important ( if not more so) than carpentry skills. See Monsanto. Apple Blooms destiny is to make millions selling GMO apples to the FlimFlam Corp.

@colt .45 brings up a very good point from Bridal Gossip; I had forgotten about AB's involvement with the potion.

Along with that the ponies are typically good at more than one thing, so I wouldn't put it past her to have a knack for both carpentry and potion-making.

Applebloom didn't build the set in Show Stoppers, Sweetie Bell did.

Since they teased the potion making cutie mark in Bloom and Gloom I think we can be fairly certain that is NOT what she will end up getting.

You are right. I stand corrected. She was responsible for the awful choreography/Kung fu. Lol. Where did OP get the idea that her talent was carpentry? Apple Bloom clearly has Walter White level potion skills.

I really have no idea why they changed it.... I would really like to know why now.

The ponies are not restricted to one talent. The one they're destined for is the main talent but they have other talents they develop. Here are examples.

Applejack's talent is growing and bucking apples. But she can also make cider, bake apple pies, is equally athletic as Rainbow Dash, Applejack has also been known to be good at building houses (Raise this Barn) and a master of the lasso. I guess carpentry does run in the family. The Apples are probably good at a multitude of tasks just like Applebloom will be.

She did build that clubhouse and the Golden Apple Float in Bad Seed.

Show Stoppers was meant to show that the CMCs were just ignoring their talents for various reasons (ICR the exact words of the lesson they learned at the end, just that they blew it)

But, the Cutie Pox episode shows Apple Bloom has been working w Zecora to learn potions.  She did make a potion that worked the 1st time she tried.

They seem to have shown less of Apple Bloom's carpentry talent because there doesn't seem to be much need for it plot-wise. Meanwhile, the potion-making first came up in "Bridle Gossip", so it's not out of the question she'd be into that just as much. There's nothing wrong about having more than one talent, however.

Because people usually have more than one thing that they're good at. AB can be either if she want's, it depends on what she's passionate about.

Because they are trying to get Alan Rickman to voice a Drawl potion master pony so he can teach Applebloom?

...actually that's a pretty sweet idea, SNAPE Pony needs to be a thing!
