Wait, he's gonna be used in the 100th episode? Wha? I have been avoiding almost all spoilers for the episodes in season 5 and that would be very interesting if it is true. Plus it would explain this particular C&D. JanAnimations has gotten a C&D before but I think that was just a general one for the property itself, not for a specific character so that could very well explain this. If that is true, then heyo, the pony I relate to most officially in the show as a real character, woo.

 

Copyright is a confusing thing but many holders of copyright have to do these things most of the time, so it is what it is.

Also, I believe this is pretty outdated. This was way back in March 2014 if I recall correctly (I'm postivite it was because that was my 12th birthday and on my 12th birthday I got the news of Button's Adventures. D:)

I believe it's mostly for fan service or to delight and make hardcore Button fans and ButtonBelle/SweetieMash shippers happy. Besides, if they do that, we're likely to see DoctorDerpy or LyraBon so if we see any of those ships, it's most likely for fan service.

No one kill me for saying this, but I don't see the appeal of ButtonBelle. It has cute fan art and fan works (one of the only reason why I kinda ship them to be honest) but other than that, I feel SweetieMash came right out of the blue. Whose idea was it to ship them actually? I feel this ship only exists because of JanAnimations. Other than that, the ship really doesn't have a purpose or anything special to it. And the fan animations and such not being cannon. Well, they may get cannon. You never know. If they were, I would maybe become a actual bigger shipper in that case and such.

Ugh, I hated Button Mash. Yes, the animation was great but the character himself was so annoying. His voice is so irritating too!   Also, his mom isn't attaractive.

 

An understandable opinion, and one appropriate to this topic since we are discussing a rather old C&D to use a character owned by Hasbro that is closely tied to an OC that Jan Animations created. A topic discussing the C&D is largely going to ignore copyright and trademark law, and be focused around the enjoyment and validity of the fan creation. That in and of itself invites a counter opinion on the product created by Jan Animations. That means these sort of comments are allowable and on topic and I thank you for offering a counter opinion.

Like I said that before: What if Hasbro does an CMC spinoff series, then I want Button Mash's canonical characterization to remain the same just like his fan characterization. I mean Button Mash moved from Fillydephia to Ponyville right?

I mean, how are they going to reinvent Button due to the C&D? I like Button the way he is! OK, I know they're more than obligated to make sure none of the characters that are currently unfleshed will be close to their fandom equivalents. It's why most of the team isn't really allowed/encouraged to read up on fandom-related material. Fanfiction, music, etc. Button Mash won't be the name, if he does get one, and his personality will likely be a decent bit different.

Hence, reinventing the character is a BAD BAD idea. Hasbro should encourage the cast and crew to read up on fandom-related material and start hiring fan VAs (ShadyVox, Nowacking, EileMonty) and of course, JanAnimations himself! Look at him, Button Mash is perfect the way he is. All we (the whole fandom including ME!) really want his character's personality to be the same. If Hasbro comes with an CMC spinoff series, they have to put Button Mash and his Mom on the show and have their same personalities, then we will be happy so we can get on with it! And don't forget to make the Button-Belle ship canon even real!

Look at him. Button Mash is commonly portrayed as a video game fanatic based on his appearance in the show. He is also usually portrayed as curious and hyper. Button appears to have a short attention span, and appears to occasionally have trouble separating the fantasy world of video games from real life. Button is also shown to be something of a crybaby in JanAnimations' works; he cries for his mother in the Button's Adventures pilot and Bar Buddies short, and he laments wasting six hours on a video game in the Perfect Stallion "deleted scene." Honestly, OK?

Soooo...Button Mash is a fan name given to a young brown-haired Earth pony colt who appears during The Perfect Stallion in Hearts and Hooves Day, in which he is seen playing an arcade game. He wears a red and white beanie with a green propeller that never stops spinning. The character became popular as the titular character of JanAnimations' Button's Adventures due to his gain of population on the Internet.

 

And come to think of it: we're never gonna get Button's mom (since she's a fan OC, through and through), but it is interesting that the show seems to be bringing Button himself back, especially since the two times he appeared before this, he never had a really popular fan-based personality, but now he does. UNLESS if Hasbro redeem themselves by lifting the C&D and hire JanAnimations and then come up with an CMC spinoff show by adding him and HIS mom (YES his mom from the Button Mash animation!) Hell, on the bright side: if his popularity within the fandom is the main reason for his re-appearance, then he might come back again with the voice of ShadyVox and animated by JanAnimations! I mean look at ShadyVox, he has talent, because he is the perfect voice of that game-obsessed Blank Flank! But under my JCA (Joint Collaboration Agreement), Hasbro and DHX will have to change the contract rules in order to give the rights to give a fan VA a chance to voice, let's say if Nowacking was signed on as the official voice of Vinyl, she can continue voicing her in fan projects. Simple!

 

And a few lot of examples: Michelle Creber has voiced Apple Bloom in more than a few Apple Bloom fan animations (and music videos count as fan animations too) and DON'T forget about "The initial "Twilightlicious" was voiced Tara Strong through Twitter. BlackGryph0n downloaded it and made the animation out of it. The rest come from either fan VAs or (IIRC) personal encounters with the official VAs. And the point is: it's not just the restricted contracts that the VAs have to abide by. The VA unions in Canada are involved, too. That's why John De Lancie is credited as a "Special Guest" VA in the first place!

So you don't need to change him Hasbro. IF the C&D got lifted, then Hasbro should redeem their errors by approving fandom-related material by now. Simple!
