Celestia being overpowered in certain fan fiction?

The Celestia which is overpowered is some fanfics is, according to the writers, the one we know from the show. But the funny fact is that Celestia is much, much, much weaker than that. Sure, she can move the sun, but that must be because of her special magic, not power. She know many spells, indeed, but drop a powerful bomb or a nuke on her and you won't hear about her ever again. I'm not saying she doesn't have the power to resist the nuke with a shield, who knows, but I don't think she ever faced enemies capable of that, so she never had the opportunity to even think that such destructive power exists. Even Twilight with the power of 4 alicorns causes minimalistic explosions compared to what some people think Celestia is capable of

Celestia is no more powerful than alicorn Twilight. She was defeated by Chrysalis, she was getting beaten by Nightmare Moon before she used the Elements of Harmony and she looked worn out from Discord's doings.

 

No doubt she does have some perks like capable of using the EoH on her own but that's it.

 

And I doubt she can move the sun and moon as she pleases. She can only move them by their respective paths but it's not telekinesis. It's some kind of magic.

 

And she doesn't have that bubble spell that Twilight and Shining Armor has.

We could literally run down the list of characters in any series, you will find a fanfic where they are massively OP. Seriously, just pick a fandom and go through some of the characters, the results are often hilarious.

 

I've seen fanfic where goddamn Dobby has mopped the floor with Voldemort. Dobby, ffs.

Not in the slightest. I would rush to her embrace as readily as I would Jesus'.

Some of my favorite FIMfiction involves Celestia being very capable, but with a major hold-back. For instance, in many of Chatoyance's TCB stories (especially of note: Humans in Equestria), Celestia's inability to force the rich and powerful elite of Earth to become ponies even after they broke the "no killing sapient beings" rule was that she had given her word that they would be able to stay human. Even the children who almost died and could have been saved by being turned to ponies and who WANTED to be ponies, Celestia was unable to do so because she had agreed with the elite class that they could only chose to become ponies once they were 16 years of age. Her crux was that she represented Order, which was something she valued as she had to fight Chaos (discord), and to break her own word would invite chaos. The author used this angle very effectivly to take a super powerful character and limit what she could do via a compelling plotline.

 

If it doesn't fit the plot, tho, then no, I do not tend to like the OP Celestias present in many of the FIMfictions. Too Mary Sue.

If I might expand upon my previous post. I have actually written a TCB fic where Celestia is explicitly divine. She is immortal, has great magical power, and controls the sun as per canon, but I've also added time altering abilities. Sort of expanding on the logic that if she controls "the day" she controls every hour within it.

 

This is counterbalanced by my own religious beliefs. Celestia is benevolent and powerful, but much like Superman, she wants us to fight our own battles and grow so that we don't need divine intervention. So she chooses ponies to work her will, such as the Mane Six.

I hate that twisted mockery of Celestia so much I only wish her to die the most horrible way possible in front of all her subjects. I hate this Celestia so much, I would laugh at her demise. And then I'll start singing Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead.

 

If I could not do that have an actual 'good' Celestia from another universe lay down some sweet justice upon her.  

 

Or... maybe even knock some sense into her to make her become 'good' and undo all the suffering she had caused to humanity.

 

 

You're right; everything has a limit; as far as fictional universes go, ponies are actually pretty weak overall. Unfortunately, weak is relative here, since their bottom line is actually far above our ceiling. We don't stand a chance against them.

 

Really? Even if the OP Ponies could win, the fact if they exist then the Imperium of Man also exists, and so does every other mary sue/gary sue humans in the multiverse.

 

So it all counters in the end.

 

Also... even the ponies are overpowered, that doesn't mean they would decide to be jerks and kill all humans.
