This Confederate Flag thing has gone too far.

Stop selling the flags at Walmart and ebay? Okay, doesn't bother me.

Stop flying them above government buildings? Again, I don't have a problem.

But if you're gonna stop airing reruns of "The Dukes of Hazzard" because of this shit, then NOW I HAVE A FUCKING PROBLEM.

Oh no.  I don't know how I will possibly go on.  This is the worst news I have heard since the last television series I didn't care about was dropped by whatever network.

I admit, a part of my childhood died screaming when I read that Warner Brothers was no longer going to license replicas of the General Lee that included the Confederate flag on top.

It's not because I condone the racism and violence of the age that the flag symbolizes. It was because when I used to watch The Dukes of Hazzard, on first run, as a young boy, and I didn't know the meaning of the word racism, much less felt it, all I knew was that the Duke boys had one sweet ride.

Whether one likes the show or not is actually irrelevant. The fact that people are censoring the show because of a flag is the problem. Have we gotten that PC? -- that a piece of cloth is focused on than major problems in the world? People honestly need to get their priorities straight. Of all things we could possibly worry about, its a flag?... A flag that was once the flag of the whole country, anyway? I'm black and I don't even have my tail in a bunch over it. If people want to fly that flag, so be it. This is supposedly a free country -- or have conformity and political correctness stripped that away? The censoring is getting ridiculous.

It is just a show.

You are missing the point, since some of these business stopped selling confederate merchandise because they were pressure to by the government through color of law it brings up the question of did they stop airing the Dukes of Hazard of their own accord or did they face similar pressure? If they pulled it themselves than that is within their rights as a network, but if they did so thanks to Uncle Sam pressuring them than that is clearly censorship which is something we all need to stand against regardless of whether we are fans of the show or not or even like the confederate flag or not. Free speech isn't support speech you like, it is supporting speech you not only disagree with but may even despise.

Well...um...OK. I don't think the show should've been pulled. Is there a better explanation for something this ridiculous, maybe?

It just gets me  that with the recent issue of same sex marriage, people kept pushing tolerance and how it does not affect others, and that their right to marry should not be taken away. I agree with this.  But then these same people turn around and get worked up because some people happen to have a fondness for a civil war relic. Where's all the talk of tolerance there? Don't don't like gay marriage? don't have one. Don't like the confederate flag? don't fly one, but don't impose on the rights of others if you don't want yours imposed on.

Live and let live people. There are bigger issues in the world.

When I heard the news about it, I want not too happy given that it's one of my favorite shows. Those that think The Dukes of Hazzard is a racist show have obviously never seen it. I think it's complete and utter bullcrap where this "political correctness" has come to. Political correctness is the worst thing that has ever happened to this nation. I swear we are ending up more or less like China or Iran with all the censoring and political correctness.

It's the fault of people for tainting the reputation of this flag. I've grown up in the south all my life and even from my own experiences all I can remember this flag being represented for was intimidation, racism, and hate. I've had many run ins with people throughout the years and even with my family being spanish have been treated awful in certain times. Now of course racism is everywhere you go but I'm just focusing on the "rebel flag" and what people use it for today. Its the fault of those out there who have used that flag for the wrong reasons and they have caused people to hate that flag.

But all in all this is a awesome show besides the point and it would be a shame if they stop airing reruns I agree with you on that.

I really feel that the Confederate Flag is not the biggest problem with racism. It's the KKK. I mean why aren't they dealing with that over a flag that is a piece of history? I'm guessing the only place the flag is allowed to exist is in a museum?

They can't even dress it up this time? You know ban all flags of any sort, the only flag you can have in the U.S. is the U.S. flag. You know that sort of thing.

Actually with how far this is going, even that might not be the case if the PC police have their way.

What if they aired it with the flag blurred out?

I don't have any problem with the decision.  Displaying the confederate flag so unthinkingly is a form of casual racism.  Normalizing that it is bad for society.

So I heard this was a thing over in the States but I'm completely lost. What exactly is going on and why are people doing this?

There's nothing wrong with the flag itself and it holds history but it's just people have used it in the wrong light for such a long time and now the majority of people view the rebel flag with resentment and hate. It has to do with the Civil War, slavery, and primarily why a lot of people in the south continue to fly the flag around like they are "trying" to make a statement or something. In certain areas some worse than others people have used the flag as a symbol of racism and intimidation. It is a shame though because that isn't what the flag represents it's just has that reputation because of the masses of people who have used it in that negative light over the years.

So people now want that flag banned or replaced so to speak.

Why now then? Has something triggered this exactly? If it's been around for quite a long time and no one has said anything about it why is action being taken now?

I don't even know why they're trying to make a statement though. What exactly are they trying to say? If they don't like the government they can always leave ^_^

I personally don't find the flag offensive, but I can see why others do find it offensive, that being said, I think it's time to just let it go and not let hate, anger, and violence ruin our country all because some nut job decides to shoot up poor innocent people in a church. Not being united as a country is letting him win.

It's a knee jerk reaction to the tragedy that happened at the church were a deranged racist murdered 9 people. He was photographed holding the flag so of course that is what people latched on to. Instead of addressing the underlying problem it's much easier to attack the inanimate object.

So why the heck would people still continue to support this flag in the wake of such a tragedy? That's just wrong :(

Yeah, and he was wearing a Gold's Gym shirt, too. Let's boycott that as well, shall we?

I mean, there's knee-jerk reactions, and then there's jerking your knee with such force that it separates from your body, achieves escape velocity, and takes out a GPS satellite.

Basically this picture... *hating any race mind you*

The Flag does have important history behind it and they should leave it in museums. But why go totting around this flag so that in turn one day people will become to hate it? It doesn't make sense but that is what it has come to in this day in age with how others in the past of brought upon this flag.

It's not that if you see the Confederate flag that makes it racist it his how that person or group has flown it for. What were the intentions of the use of that flag in that moment of time?
