web Webcomic Thread

Since I was surprised to find nothing of the sort  upon search, here's a thread for suggesting and talking about various webcomics! I have 3 in particular that I would suggest, as they're some of my favorites:

Order of the Stick - This one is somewhat well know. If you play DnD, you'll love this, and even if you don't it's still a fairly good read. In fact, it's what got me interested in DnD in the first place. It does have over 900 pages and counting, so go in at your own risk. (And yes, the art does get much better.)

SUPER EFFECTIVE (VG Cats) - This is an odd but enjoyable one. For all Pokenerds out there, this is for you. It's from VG Cats, so it's sure to be funny, although it does get a bit... questionable in content. It doesn't update often, but it's great when it does.

Rain LGBT - I'll admit, half of why I love this so much is because of how much I can relate to it. The main character is an MtF transgender teenager, trying to fit in in her senior year. It's full of drama and slice-of-life, but it's also full of hilarity. I'd suggest this one to anyone.

Brawl in the Family - Although it ended last year, it's still a great read for any fan of Smash Bros or Nintendo in general.

There's one more I would suggest if it weren't for a few NSFW scenes... oh well.

If any of you guys have any favorite webcomics, tell me them! I always love checking out new ones!  :)

I haven't viewed many web comics but for the one I have read it was to do with Fallout (video game). I just really like the Fallout world along with its mountains of history. I'm hoping to find more some day, they were fan made. The ones that were listed as "Official" weren't very long and lacked a lot of reading material. But for what they were it was pretty neat addition to the game world they were directed at.

I read webcomics near-daily. I had a thread on this forum for it but it didn't find much love back then and I guess it's deleted or phased out of the search engine's ability to...search.

I've read more than 150 different comics from ongoing, to finished and even one-shots. That's just the ones I currently follow and remember, too. There are a lot I've forgotten over the years from before I started using RSS Feeds to keep track of updates and others that there are no RSS Feeds for so I have to manually keep track of...and I tend to forget those a lot in spite of bookmarks keeping tabs on them. There are others still where the RSS just doesn't work right so even with Feedly (my feed reader) I haven't kept up with them.

Right now I'm on a second read of Questionable Content cuz I haven't found many new ones lately so I've stuck to rereading until something pops up somewhere. There are a lot of popular ones I could never get into though like Penny Arcade and Homestuck.

I loved what I read of Tower of God. The place I was reading it from had no RSS to follow it from so it kinda fell on the wayside. I don't even remember how far I had gotten but it was a ways into the second part after the time skip.

Twenty-Fifth Baam is boss.

I think we all know a certain webcomic that's on all of our minds.

Homestuck.

Dang, dats some good story.

Sometimes I wonder if I should give Homestuck another try cuz I didn't really read more than a few pages into it. What I did read was complete and utter horseshit and the artstyle doesn't make me want to come back. Artstyle goes a long way in making me enjoy (or forget) a comic. People always praise it for its story though.

Does it indeed? I couldn't find any example of this. The archives apparently work weird and I don't know what's fanart and what's not on image searches.

Maybe someday. Not exactly a priority.

Homestuck definitely isn't for everyone ─ you have to be okay with the weird artstyle. :P

I wouldn't say it changes that much over time as it doesn't really lose the wierd style as far as I remember. It does get more colorful, more commonly uses the non-sprite style, and introduces some different artstyle things that it switches between at times. Hard to describe exactly.

The writing is very, very good though. If you have the right sense of humor for it it's hilarious too.

It used to be one of my favorite webcomics, but I stopped following it for the reason that it had gone on so long and was so mind-screwy that I pretty much totally forgot the plot and was confused by everything! I plan to read through the whole thing again someday... but that'll take a looong time. x_x

Yeah, it's gonna be quite the time investment. Most webcomics tend to be on some level if they've gone on longer than a year or two but that one's pretty frequently updated.

It wouldn't be as much of a problem if I didn't have as much of a mysterious and nonsensical aversion to the comic. :P

But it's not like all the comics I've read and love started out super amazing either so I kinda feel ashamed that I gave up on Homestuck so early.

Dan & Mab's Furry Adventures, Candi and Juvenile Diversion are a few comics that started out from bad to meh but became very riveting later on. I'd argue that JD's story isn't super amazing even now (it mostly gets good in spurts) but the artstyle improved a thousandfold from when it started.

NOBODY'S MENTIONED HOUSEPETS?

FSJIFHJSDFLSJDHGJHDF

Hey. I can't just go on a fifty page tirade on every webcomic I've ever read. It would take hours upon hours to write a little ditty about every single one!

Cute as it is I don't really think Housepets is all that great though. Not bad by any means but it never impressed me as much as other comics.

I'd mention BitF, but it already has been. Shurrrg.

That doesn't mean you can't talk about it still. It's not like this topic is just for listing all the comics out there. The creator even said it's a place to talk so let's talk!

I loved the backstory behind Dedede and Metaknight. It did wonders of my view of Dedede who I previously thought was a pure dullard and not even remotely interesting as a character. Even if it is fancanon it opened my eyes.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Also, take my opinions on webcomics with a grain of salt. I tend to have very random triggers for what makes me adore a comic or not and Housepets mostly fell on the wrong side of that random line.

So I haven't read through Precocious more than once and it's been a few years but lately it feels like the updates are really hit and miss and it almost always seems to come down to story arc. Anything to do with Bud's cooking is old and overdone so I greatly dislike them usually. The current story arc is mildly interesting, at least. An Et that even the Ets fear? THAT'S NOT TIFFANY? What madness is this!?

Some webcomics I'd recommend:

The Adventures of Dr. Mcninja: He is a ninja. He is also a doctor.  He's trained with batman*, and is also a time traveller, a tennis player, a ghostbuster, and the only man who can possibly stop the dirt bike riding King Radical's plan to make the entire world more radical.

*sorta

Axe cop: Drawn by Ethan Nicolle (age 29) with a story made up by his 5 year old brother Malachai Nicolle, Axe cop is, to put it simply, "Ridiculously Awesome", and "Awesomely Ridiculous".  I'm not even sure how to describe it beyond that.

Last but not least, if you're reading a lot of webcomics, it's nice to have something that'll keep track of which ones have updated.  Piperka is that something

After setting up an account, you can "subscribe" to webcomics, then check in every once in a while to get all your updates and stuff.

Maybe I'm reading the demonstration wrong but is it saying you have to update the page every time you get caught up so it knows where you were? That seems unnecessarily tedious.

I'm too used to feedly to use anything else either way though and it can be used for more than just webcomics. :P

I've heard of Axe Cop. A friend told me about it once.

Dragon Ball Multiverse is pretty good if you're into Dragon Ball, the specials they have are of varying art styles but the main comic itself is more like Akira Toriyama's style.

Girl Genius is pretty good if you're into Steampunk stuff.

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021104

Sister Claire has an interesting art style and is about Witches and Nuns.  It starts out pretty slow and if you bookmark a page, you only come back to it at the most recent comic.

http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/1

Trying Human is a comic about aliens and their interactions with humans.  The comic creator has been updating their earlier pages to that of the same artstyle they use now and it's rather interesting, if you're into love stories and a bit of intrigue.

Off White is a gorgeous comic about wolves.  I haven't really pieced together what it's about but it's strangely interesting.

http://off-white.eu/comic/volume1/

Lackadaisy is a comic set in the Prohibition era but with cat people.  I love this comic, it's very pretty and can be pretty funny.

Looking For Group is loosely based off of World Of Warcraft, it's pretty much created it's own territory by now.  It's a funny comic series.  It's nice to see the art style improve over time too.

Champions and Heroes is typically about Bioware games(mainly dragon age).  It's still entertaining regardless.  There are two different artists for this comic and they post alternatively between each other.

Homestuck ruined my life.

It messed me up so much dude.

It's so wrong on so many levels.

I hate it so much.
But they're all my children.

Don't read it. ;-;

  • 2 weeks later...

So I remembered a comic for people who liked Brawl in the Family:

http://www.awkwardzombie.com/

Unlike BitF it's not exclusive to Nintendo or Super Smash Bros stuff but it's got the same feel to it.

@@Thuja,

I just read through Trying Human a few months ago and I really liked it. Started out kinda boring but it picked up real quick.

It reminded me of The End but it never got boring to read. The End wasn't fun to read page-by-page so I gave up on it. I should reread it though.

So...is this topic completely dead? Makes me sad. :(

I just started rereading Dan & Mab's Furry Adventures. Probably one of my favorite webcomics of all time. They really know how to pace the comedy with the drama.

And the faces. Good god, the faces. They're brilliant.
