gaming Games That Didn't Get the Proper Treatment

You're a kid, you are playing a new game and it's amazing. Not only that, but you love the crap out of it. However, the game never really got the proper attention it deserved and to this day it is still somewhat of an enigma  to this day. We've all had a game or two like that which just didn't stand the test of time to become a "classic" that it may have rightfully deserved. For me one of those games is:

While it's definitely not an obscure game, Prime Hunters was a game that I definitely felt got burned out before its time came. It was an excellent FPS on the original DS and had one of the best online experiences on the handheld. It had a pretty nice online community even for its time.

Sadly however the game's multiplayer more or less died after about 2 years and when Nintendo shut down the online service for the original DS, Prime Hunters is just a memory to many, and little to no chance of a revival of any kind. It would be nice if they ported it to the Wii U an gave it the proper attention because it could have become another game like Counter Strike where people still played it long after it was retired.

Why did it never take off? Well, the reasoning lies in one flaw, Nintendo didn't know how to handle online gameplay at the time. The game was not given the proper attention it needed to survive:

-The leaderboards were very wonky and it was fairly easy to game them to not lose ratings.

-No proper anti-cheat system. In the second year of play, almost everyone was hacking at this point. No ban system, no anti-cheat detection meant it was a cheater's playground.

-No Post-release updates. Nothing. No balancing updates, new content, new maps, nothing. Really essential in a competitive game that updates come out to balance things and fix bugs. Trace was arguably one of the most broken characters in the game, and Samus was virtually useless in online play.

-Bugs that never got fixed. On almost every map there was a handful of bugs that could be abused to gain unfair advantages. On the default map (combat hall) there was at least 3 major glitches that created an unfair game. The most famous of which was glitching yourself behind a wall to where the other players can not hit you and your missiles can still hit enemies. This was exceptionally broken if you had the imperialist which could 1 hit kill people with headshots.

Nintendo just didn't give the game the post release attention it deserved to keep it going, and as a result this is a Metroid game that while it sold well, many do not really actively think about when they think about the franchise. A shame too, because the series really could have benefited if this kind of multiplayer was fine tuned and ported to Metroid Prime 3, but no such luck.

What about you guys? What are some games that didn't really get the attention they deserved, and why do you think that is?

Anything made by Clover/Platinum are almost always financial bombs, despite many reviewers often calling them some of the best games ever made

I have to way two games: Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without A Pulse

Jurassic Park Operation genesis was basically a tycoon/zoo tycoon type of game but you make your own Jurassic Park! It was fantastic for that. There tons of dinosaurs, a lot of strategy, many ways to customize your park, and the graphics were great. I feel like this is a game that is now forgotten which is sad because it was sooooooooooooooooo good.

Stubbs the Zombie was another concept that was unique and done very well. It was a zombie game where YOU play as the zombie. You made zombie hordes throughout the levels and while it seems simple at first, it was really addicting. Plus it had co-op and a wonderful soundtrack, the game was also great in humor too. The only problem was that the game was short, I was able to beat it twice in one day, both on the easiest difficulty and the hardest difficult. Still, I would love for the game to be at least re-released. The game was definitely rated M for a reason too, it was rather mature. :P

The Thing. I don't really remember seeing anything saying it's any good really. But it's probably scarier than most horror games today. It's scarier than Amnesia for me XD

The Thing is my all time favorite horror movie, and I saw the concept for the game. It looked really cool! It probably was one of the few good movie based games out there, but sadly it fell into obscurity. Which sucks because it looked like a fun play.

There's this PS2 game I used to play a lot called Road Trip. It's a rather obscure game based on the Japanese Choro-Q brand. I enjoyed the game, but it never really got a lot of attention and I was the only person I knew at the time who owned a copy; however, I can see why it wasn't reviewed a lot, to an extent.

The physics aren't refined (far from it, in fact; I went through a fence) and unrealistic, the graphics are quite primitive even by 2002's standards, the sound effects are really processed and drone on and overall, it's quite buggy.

It does have a somewhat decent soundtrack, though.

Actraiser: A rather unique Super Nintendo game that combines action adventure side scrolling and sim city style building. You are a god and as a god your goal is to get more worshippers as with more worshippers you get more power. You do this by building cities and by fighting off dangerous monsters, demons and even other gods that are a threat to the people. It is available on the Wii U e-shop if you want to give it a try.

Star Fox: No, I don't mean Star Fox 64 I mean the original Star Fox for the Super Nintendo. It did very well when it was released but was later overshadowed by Star Fox 64 which I hoped would be a sequel but was for all intents and purposes a reboot. Star Fox 64 has been re-released but I am still waiting for one for the original Star Fox.

Mother 1 (Earhtbound Beginnings): Mother 2 was released in America under the title Earthbound but Mother 1 was originally going to be released in America under the same title but was not because the NES was getting too close to the end of its lifecycle. Sadly Mother 2 didn't do very well when it was first released but with the Smash Bros games it started to gain more attention until it was released on the Wii U e-shop due to fan demand. Mother 1 or Earthbound Beginnings as they are calling it in the US was released shortly afterwards which is good but will likely always be overshadowed by Mother 2. Mother 2 is the better game, don't get me wrong but Mother 1 is still worth getting both because it is a great game in its own right and because it reveals an important part of the story in Mother 2 and makes the whole situation with Giygas all the more tragic as well as disturbing.

While not obscure, I still am saddened to this day about Medal Of Honor Warfighter's treatment.  :(

The game was INCREDIBLE, I loved the campaign and the multiplayer was a perfect blend of battlefield and CoD in a way that actually worked  There was great variation and customisation and even now, Battlefield games are using elements of MoH Warfighter (such as taking ammo or health off a teammate, various new gadgets etc.). There are days when I want to go back and play it but I cant  >_>

It was a sensational flop, the devs Danger Close went out of business (well, kinda, they sorta merged into DICE LA who make some of the Battlefield stuff  :P ) and the servers are practically empty  :( Many said it was generic or even racist (referring to some campaign moments), and that it was, basically, complete crap.  :o

Well If it's 1 game that doesn't desserve attention and recommendation, it would be Maple Story, a MMORPG. There are lot of cons in that game and I did analyze the cons and problems.

Here are the list of cons and problems that Maple Story has

No Endgame Contents

People Charge for hard boss runs like Hard Magnus and Chaos Root Abyss Bosses.

All About Grinding

Pay 2 win

GMs care about fun, games, & events more than Security, and Safety of the game, fixing issues, and Catching hackers & botters.

There are too many hackers & botters, and NX Sellers who sell NX for mesos which is not suppose to be allowed in the game

Hard to grind to level 200 now

People are too picky for the party such as looking for priests & bishops, phantoms, beast tamers, and kannas with a level range and too lazy to make a party.

and Of course too Boring.

So that's pretty much that I found so far. Apparently Maple Story's Population has been declining lately because of these cons.

Sonic 2006....AHAHAHAHAHAH.

No, in all seriousness a game I liked that wasn't made that popular as I think it deserved is probably Sonic Shuffle....(I loved that as a kid)

I think two Mega Man games Maverick Hunter X, Powered Up; Okami and another game I can't think of right now stands out. Now, all three of those games are positively received from both critics and fans. Why didn't they get the proper treatment? Zero word of mouth and advertising whatsoever from Capcom.

Maverick Hunter X had very poor sales despite being a good game, and the low sales canceled a sequel. Ditto with Powered Up.

Who da heck are they?

I'd say Shenmue and Daggerfall.

Platinum if I'm not mistaken on who they're referring to is the team behind Bayonetta/Bayonetta2, Metal Gear Rising Revengance, Mad World/Anarchy Reigns, The Wonderful 101, Infinite Space and will be behind the development of the upcoming Star Fox game.

Clover is behind the Viewtiful Joe series, Okami and God Hand.
