what was Celestias plan?

i had a few thoughts was wondering what everyone thinks. we know that Celestia banished Luna for a thousand years, but what was her plan? 1000 years is a considerable chunk of time, even for a alicorn and yet after that time she had no solution. did she know Luna would return? she didn't act on it. was her intention for it to be a permanent solution? how long was her banishment suppose to last if she hadn't escaped?

 

anyway i would love to hear everybodys thoughts on this

I have the feeling she was hoping those 1000 years would give Luna time to, well, change. For her to convert back to her former self.

 

Obviously this was a very foolish notion, but probably one that Celestia would pray to be true. If not, she probably would have used the EoH yet again to banish her. Very little else she could do.

In retrospect, yes it is, but could Celestia really bring herself to KILL her sister? Thats where the problem is.

Banishing Ponies and other creatures for 1000 years seems to be a common punishment.

 

Nothing teaches the joy of friendship and harmony like 1000 years in lonely isolation!

Her plan was to save Equestria, and maybe the world, considering Celestia is responsible for the Sun's rising & setting. Was it necessary? Absolutely. Did it weigh on her shoulders? There's so many times where she admits a deep and terrible regret for losing the only sister she ever knew, by her own hand. Did she plan for her sister's banishment to end? It's hard to say.

 

Maybe her power could only extend to a millennium. Maybe she learned this when another pony, possibly Starswirl The Bearded, prophesied it and made it known to her. If that was the case, then she indeed planned Twilight's education around it, and hoped that when the time came, she would learn the power of friendship that would be so necessary to bring her sister back from her terrible alter ego. She must've then also known that Starswirl would not have been the pupil she needed, but knew the role that she would still play in Twilight's own upbringing.

It is my understanding that Celestia didn't know that the banishment had an expiration date. It was Twilights research that let her know that she had to stop it.

Wait...There was the book which contained the prophecy of Nightmare Moon, which means that somebody had to know about it, if nobody else, Celestia must have known. Taking into account that Celestia has foresight or at least something like that, it's conceivable that she had planned all of this and she was aware of the returning of Luna someday. If not, still there is the book which was written by somepony.

Perhaps Starswirl knew about it all? If he was around at that time. Maybe he saw the prophecy and wrote it all in that book. Celestia clearly already knew about Nightmare Moon being freed it seems so perhaps she had some hindsight and this would set forth the many events of the show. 

 

That is me theorizing entirely of course, many possibilities are afoot.

I've mentioned this before, but IMO Celestia was hoping Twilight would be able to salvage her sister

 

1) Twilight is a genius genius, but do you REALLY think she figured out NMM was returning & Celestia (greatest living wizard) didn't?  Even though C had a 1000 year head start + cast the spell in the 1st place?  Who do you think wrote the book & left it where T would find it?

2) Celestia & Luna got the Elements in the 1st place.  You think C might have noticed Twilight's Cutie Mark was the same as the 1 on the Tree of Harmony?  Maybe C can take a hint?

3) Ponyville is located where it is because C gave AJ's great grand parents a land grant to put it near where she left the Elements.  What an amazing coincidence.

4) The Summer Sun Celebration was held in Ponyville.  A hick town of no significance whatsoever -except 5 of the 6 Element Bearers happen to live there.  Call that a coincidence, do you? 

5) 3 of the 6 Element Bearers moved to Ponyville within a few years of the pilot (Fluttershy, Pinkie, & Dash).  C could have had the event catered by anyone in EQ, decorated by anyone, & had any entertainers she wanted.  She "just happened" to pick the Element Bearers & "luckily" sent Twilight to meet them.  No one is THAT lucky.  (Pinkie could be counted on to meet any pony that came to town)

 

IMO, she couldn't be sure Twilight could cure her sister, but she had hopes (& probably had some contingency plan if Twilight couldn't at least send her back to the moon)

Celestia's plan is to become a supreme dark lord of all the known universe originally was to find a pony (or someponies) that could not only weild the elements of harmony, but use them better.

 

When the Sisters found the tree of harmony, Celestia said she was borrowing them, in that sentence she acknowledged that her and her sister were never meant to be the true bearers of the elements, but given their dire straights and that discord planned to attack the tree eventually, they were able to use them to bring him down.

 

Once such a bearer was found. Specifically the Magic bearer. Celestia had to put her and he friends though tests. Some of these Starswirl may have known, some will have been similiar to challenges Celestia and Luna themselves have faced over the years (ponies need people skills, its not all sunshine, rainbows and magicial lazers!)

 

Once Twilight was a alicorn and later smacked down Tirek (with help ofc) that we can safely say most of her plans have fallen into place. Right now, what really is on her mind are plans for herself. With Twilight a princess and Luna restored. This would be the best time for them.
