I should draw a diagram on how my engines work. So that the others can understand

Additional drawings or diagrams in OOC to support posts are most welcome, although we probably don't need an entire Haynes Manual on it.

Have you even met me compadre.

My version of magitech engines.

I'm still working on this, but this is how I thought they'd work.

Explanation

Magi-tech engines are relatively simple, once you know what they do.

To start off, a series of magically charged crystals or other form of magical storage is slotted into one of the various slots on the top of the engine, as shown by the light blue in the diagram. The magic is pulled through channels into two tanks where the pure magic is stored.

The dark purple lines are converters and channels in which the magic is converted into a fludic form. The leftover magic is pushed to the front of the engine where it is stored in a large tank, to later dissipate into the world. The green rods redirect any ambient magic within the engines into the tank to be processed so that the unstable magic and ambient magic won't interact. If they did interact, the engine would explode as the unstable magic wants to be free and merge with the ambient magic outside.

The fluidic magis is pushed into the back segment of the engine and, within tubes, spun around two rods with their own momentum. As they do so, the propellers start spinning. As the propellers spin,so do the two rods within the engines chassis. This in turn moved the magic through the tubes as it causes a vacuum of magic. At this point it is a self sustaining process, which can be slowed down or stopped through use of a valve. When you control these engines, there is no throttle. It works in reverse, as the further the valve is closed the slower the engines spin.

Two control points (in blue) located within the furthest back part of the engine stabilise the spin of the rotor and the two points at each end of the propellor push out any excess fluidic magic, which instantly dissipates when it comes into contact with ambient magic.

To sum it up, the engines take magic from crystals and put it in tanks. Once a propellor is spun, a process starts where the vacuum of magic pulls magic into the convertor converting it into a fluid form of magic, which is then pulled through the back of the engine spinning the propellor more until a point that it is self sustaining as long as there is magic being pushed into it.

Note: This means the "throttle" works in reverse. The more you push, the slower you go. I'd assume they flipped this with weights or something or put it on a lever so it could be easily controlled.

And now we have airship FTL

References aside, as I will be unable to make significant posts for the next week and a bit I am going to try an experiment. The big pegasus is to all intents and purposes a wild animal, albeit one that has a particular hatred for Zayoh, so what I am proposing is that the ensuing combat be entirely player-narrated - so that includes the actions of the pegasus monster. As it has a quite simple algorithm (attack nearest pony unless Zayoh is within reasonable striking distance, then attack Zayoh) I would suggest something like this:

1. Distraction post, in which one character draws the monster's attention

2. Strike post, in which another character attacks the monster (be it literally with a weapon, or by springing some sort of trap on it, or whatever else might work to deal with it)

3. Retaliation post, in which a character has to avoid the frenzied counterattack of the now-wounded monster.

In an RPG this would be done with dice, but since this is a narrative-only role-play I leave it up to all of you to decide whether your character succeeds at their endevour or not. Killing or badly wounding another player's character without permission is rather bad form (i.e. not allowed), but throwing difficult circumstances their way is fine (really - it helps involve everyone.) Cloud Chaser will be staying back for now, but all other NPCs (a few marines and crewponies) are perfectly acceptable redshirt material (i.e. can be killed off or wounded indiscriminately.)

Also of note is that Sharp's tarot power gives him the uncanny ability to get in the way of bad things that happen to others, keeping them safe and somehow surviving himself (if just barely in extreme cases.)

This is just a test, so if it doesn't work or isn't very satisfactory then I won't try it again but my theory is that it will cover for me when I am away and can allow players more freedom to do clever / heroic / other deeds in continuous text rather than the open-ended nature of most posts. Feedback is, as always, most welcome, and do discuss the matter in OOC or private messages.

Made an edit on my last post, just a few details of what's around his neck if anyone who already read it cares about it :P

Edited by Chip Circuit

I've been getting more into writing fanfics, mainly MLP since it has such a deep pool of creativity to pull from.

I'm good with character and story concepts, so if you need help with a fanfic or something feel free to Private message me

But don't be hurt if I have to decline if I'm tapped out for a bit. Otherwise I'm fairly good at it just sometimes I have to let my mind subconsciously think of some ideas.

I now have access to my PC (and my notes) again, and I may be able to put a post out today. Failing that, Monday followed by Friday is the most likely as I will probably be a bit busy on Easter Sunday itself.

The next post is up, and I plan to post the next one (leaving the storm) on Wednesday. Landing (well, putting all the characters on the ground. It might not be considered a conventional landing...) should therefore be on Friday, and if I can keep to my schedule Sunday will be moving through Ponyville / Twilight Sparkle's laboratory and archives.

I liked how the pegasus-mutant fight went in my pseudo-absence, so good job everyone (no, that wasn't meant to sound patronising.) I would encourage everyone to continue to exercise a similar level of creative freedom in their posts going forwards.

I'm on holiday and therefore will have little access to Internet OwO

Nah,ill still make a post later tonight. It'll just take a little longer to write up.

"What progress on the engine?" she called up to Scarlett, "If we can't get it going we'll have to run on just four, and there's no way we'll lose those blighters at that speed."

WE had more than 4?

WE had more than 4?

Six in total. Four big one that are common to all airships in the four-poster-bed-arrangement, and two smaller ones (smaller is a relative term) that were added to the side of 'Tempy' at the expense of carry capacity in order to make her go faster. Scarlett is working on one of the smaller side ones, without which the other side engine will need to be shut down, making the airship only slightly faster than average (which isn't terribly fast.)

Ahh. So these are like boosters. And if they're not working in tandem, they can't be used at all.

I'm so very sorry for the late notice, but I'm afraid I won't available for the next few days. I will have very spotty mobile connection at best, and so probably won't be able to post.

Hope it all goes well while I'm not here.

UPDATE: Terrible person that I am, I got distracted when I should have been writing up the RP. As such, I have missed Friday's post. I will try and get it up on Saturday or Sunday, which will bump the subsequent post to Tuesday or Wednesday respectively.

Again, my apologies.

It was very tempting to name the laboratory 'Ponyville Institute of Scientific Studies' or 'Purple Mesa' or similar, but I restrained myself. I still wanted to make the joke though, so there it is.

Just a reminder that the currently stated goals are to find any of Twilight Sparkle's research that might be relevant to Catalyst (be it specifically targeting demons or crystalline magic storage to create the magical dead zones) as well as anything that might tell the group where Twilight fled to.

The next post will be on Tuesday / Wednesday (it depends on how busy I am.) Friday is uncertain, but Sunday is fairly safe.

It's always the way with attachments, isn't it? Fixed, although you might need to reload the page.

All righty then!

It works!

To clarify one point to all:

The airship didn't land.

Ever done a pegasus drop before? No? Well, what we do is we strap one non-pegasus pony to one pegasus marine, preferably a strong flyer, and push them overboard. Within a minute they're on the ground, possibly minus their lunch, and the marines fly back to the airship

"You'll want to hold on tight," Cloud Chaser said, a faint grin playing around the corner of her mouth.   Attaching their safety harnesses to their charge's, on Cloud Chaser's command the pegasus marines hurled themselves off the side of the airship with their charges held tight, and plummeted towards the ground.

so what you all actually did was a tandem parachute jump (albeit without a parachute.) This will matter more when it comes to being picked up, as the reverse is much slower and the pegasus-mutants may still be after the ship.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I left the description vague as some characters might or might not have wings, or some other way of descending without pegasus assistance. I also left it vague who exactly is going down, as @@Blacklight been marked by the forums as not having been online for a while (if they suddenly come back, I'm fine with Cura having tagged along quietly up until that point.)

Slight change of schedule, the next posts will be Saturday followed by Monday (busier than expected today.)

After that, Wednesday and Friday are my current plan for next week, although that should be considered more tentative.

Friday followed by Sunday and then Tuesday / Wednesday is the current posting plan. If there is a particularly short bit that I can pop in to keep something moving then I will (I almost did for Sharp and the doors, but I hadn't quite organised which doors were accessible by which cards, so I left it until I had time to prep properly.)

I also made a mistake with the security colours on the doors earlier, which I think I have corrected, but for the avoidance of doubt here is the 'correct' list from my notes:

LAB AREAS:

1.       Atrium

2.       Crystal labs (Red / Yellow)

3.       Magi-tech development (Red / White)

4.       Archives (Brown / Red / Yellow / White)

5.       Twilight’s office / lab (Red)

6.       Visitors’ centre (Blue / Red / Yellow / White)

7.       Media rooms (Blue / Brown / Red / Yellow / White)
