What if the final villian of the series is the Cutie Map?

Holy S**t. It's conspiracy time.

 

So I've been thinking, and it seems strange to me how the Cutie Map tells them pretty specifically where to go to fix a problem. I am 78.4% certain that there are more problems in Equestria than the map is pointing out.

 

What if the map is just cleaning shop? It's telling the mane six where to go so they can weed out the problem, then the map gains a foothold in that area.

 

It is telling them to go places all over Equestria so it can finally spring up and take Equestria all in one fell swoop. All it needs to do is tell it's blind henchmen, the Mane 6, where to go.

While I like to make jokes about the Elements secretly being evil, definitely not going to happen.

That being said, I could see it being used in a CORRUPTED manner by Starlight in the same way that Sunset shimmer used the Element of magic to turn herself into a Demoness. Even in such a situation though, the table map wouldn't be evil, just being used by another evil individual.

 

 

Either way, most likely there will be SOMETHING happening with the cutie mark map as a deus ex machina of some type, as in the interviews of what to expect for the rest of the series McCarthy stated that there was something you could do with the map "if you were good with magic" implying something involving it coming up with either Twilight or starlight using it.

Seriously though, I have a related idea, and am planning on writing a fan fiction when I am satisfied with my writing ability, as I am very proud of it. Good job on noticing it too, though.

What if the map itself is not the enemy, but an entitity that is controlling it is? So many ranges of possibilities here. I doubt this is all the case, but speculation is fun. :3

I really like the idea of the Map, and by extension the Tree of Harmony being bad guys, has the whole "Light is not good" vibe going to it and it could have a very interesting moral, probably something along the lines of "The road to Hell is paved in good intentions" or the like.  I doubt it that they'd ever do this though.

This is all speculation and all but I came to the final conclusion that I don't believe this. The reason being is that the Cutie Map was a result of Twilight's Castle and the castle was a result of the Tree of Harmony the very essence that helped them defeat Tirek and maintain harmony throughout Equestria. The instructions the mane six have been following directed by the map brought harmony to various locations so far. Griffonstone's artifact was lost but they were able to spur a bit of renewal in spirit for the Griffons perhaps by putting their faith in Gilda. And the Equality Town was full of ponies that came to ask Starlight for help on their Cutie Marks and instead was brainwashed into her idea of friendship which the mane six freed them from it. It seems Starlight had some plans on using Twilight's princess status to elevate herself somewhat. Letting her lead this example may have been catastrophic and it was good she was stopped.

 

As for it being a mere entity or a sentient being this I cannot confirm. The fact that it knows the cutie marks of the six and clearly displays them can infer that someone could have planned this (the Tree of Harmony seems to have predicted the cutie mark wielders by having Celestia and Luna's cutie marks at the stump of the tree after all), but I think this is just part of the "It's a children's show," and having the cutie marks sketched on the tree and the map are just to give the obvious "destined ones" paradigm.
