Just how fast do you think Sunbutt is?

In the series, we hardly ever see her fly. More often than not, we just see her slaves hauling her lazy behind on a chariot, in spite of the fact that she has wings. But in the journal of the two sisters (which Amy Keating Rodgers confirmed as canon, from Faust), its written by Luna that Sunbutt likes to fly fast. But just how fast can she actually fly? A comparison to another pony is revealed in the journal-

 

"Celie loves to fly really fast. Always has since we were fillies. And since Commander Hurricane is the fastest flyer in all of Equestria, she thinks racing with him is the best."

 

So that's a start, but The journal doesn't say much more on that. Since Luna mentioned commander Hurricane being the fastest flyer in all of Equestria, rather than Sunbutt, I want to assume that 1: Commander Hurricane is possibly as fast a flyer as Rainbow Dash, who, in modern pony times, is the fastest flyer in Equestria (very likely faster than the Wonderbolts, even), and 2: Sunbutt, is able to give Commander Hurricane a run for his money. Assuming that she's able to give a challenging race to Hurricane, the same could apply with her and Rainbow Dash.

 

So if Sunbutt, I assume, is on par with Rainbow Dash in the air, why didn't she get off her cake padded flank and jump to save her student's best friend (Rarity), as she was falling to her death, during the young Flyer's competition, I wonder? If Sunbutt loves to fly fast, as Luna described, you would think she'd be the first to try and save one of her subjects, instead of idly watching from her grand pedestal.

(I would've loved to see her, instead of the Wonderbolts getting a flailing hoof to the face. She deserves that, at the very least)

 

But what are your thoughts on Sunbutt's speed?

The chariot is probably just a public image thing. When she needed to project an image of personal strength for Twilight in Lesson Zero, she came alone. Either that or the chariot was just too slow for such an emergency.

 

As for how fast she is, I'd love to see her race Rainbow Dash in an episode sometime  Probably wouldn't win, but might be close enough to freak Dash out a bit  She also has rainbow hair... I wonder if the old legend of the sonic rainboom was actually based on her? Maybe she quit doing it after getting too many complaints, like real life aircraft making sonic booms That would be awesome if her and Dash both made them during a race.

 

As for why Celestia didn't save Rarity, the Wonderbolts were in charge of rescue missions, and by the time they were knocked out, it would have been hard for her to get there in time. And Dash was already in the air, and Celestia probably knew about her speed, so that gave Dash a better shot at saving them. And if Celestia had jumped in, then Dash (and any other potential rescuers that could have been preparing to jump) probably would have backed off, assuming Celestia can fix anything with ease. So it would have actually reduced the probability of success if she'd gotten involved.

 

Or maybe it was already over by the time she finished the mental calculation on all that

i would think she would be slower, she is huge and has huge wings. that usually means a slow flyer that does a lot of gliding

Celestia can be just as fast as you want her to using the power of teleportation, but if it's about flying, I'd like to see her be able to give Rainbow Dash a run for her money. The shock on her face would be hilarious. :3

I think, considering the journal, it might be true as well. I really like the idea of Celestia being the one to start the rumour of the sonic rainboom by making one. :3

I know that she can just as easily teleport, but that would get in the way of her love of flying fast. Why take an elevator if you prefer geting there on your legs? Same thing

Due to her time ruling Equestria, I expect her to be low on practice and lost some flight speed. Unless she still practices in private, it's kinda unlikely she wanna stop doing a thing she likes just because everyone expects her to spend all day warming the throne with her sunbutt;p
