Are Twilight and Starswirl connected?

Silver Stream.

Recommended Posts

I will like to apologize if this was already brought up before, but I'm new to the MLP Forums.

I know I can't be the only one who is curious about Starswirl. I actually have a huge suspicion that Twilight, in some way, is actually related to him since she was the only one who finished his spell and he has been mentioned quite a few times. I do think they share a special connection whether it's through the bloodline or something else. Not really sure. What are your thoughts?

Awesome. Are they similar to mine? With Twilight being related to him in some way. I'd love to hear the other theories as well and search them up

It's always a possibility. I'm not sure if the fact that She was the only one who finished his spell has something to do with it. Or the fact that she is a big fan and dressed up like him could be foreshadowing a connection somehow.

Then again, it could be a coincidence. But for him to be brought up a few times by Twilight and for him to be so important, I can't think of anything else than them being related somehow. Not like a grandpa or anything since he seems to have existed nearly a thousand years ago(?). But still there is a possibility they are related somehow ad her ancestor

Its a running joke that Trixie is Starswirls decendant. Mostly because she dresses like a magican as most depictions of starswirl show but where as he is known as the greatest, Trixie is implied to be terrible at it.

She's kind of like the Rincewind of Equestria, XD

Also the comics imply Starswirl is pretty whimicial, even childish at times and not the serious bookworm the histroy books imply he is. He was also a travelling magician before he met Celestia. He also thinks the hat makes the magican more than actual magical ability XD

There are places online where you can be all sneaky and download them... or you could order them. ever few mounths they put several comics together as bigger annuals (each has about 4-6 comics in each one.

Alot of stories are covered in the comics, like how Cadence & Shining Armour met, Big Mac having a whole issue to himself, Starswirl and Celestia and how Tia almost destroys the universe and Twilight almost kills Chysrallis in one shot by accident. XD

Tia & Luna in the comics are also much more fun. Especially the one where Celestia lets Luna do her job for just ONE day. Lets just say Discord would shed a tear for what follows. XD

Ha! Why don't I find that hard to believe? That is a possibility thoughim going to give them a benefit of a doubt and hope they she'd more light on him within the series.

And thanks for the comic inform :)

comiXology.com lets you buy digital versions of the comics. :)

I recommend buying the individual issues instead of the volumes, though. Some of the issues have little extra side-comics by Katie Cook, and the collected volumes don't always include them... Or if they do tend to shove them all together at the back of the volume instead of in their proper places.

The one volume I would suggest you get is Vol. 1 of the main series (issues 1-4) because I think that has an exclusive side-comic that isn't included with the individual issues.

Starswirl is pretty much a device the writers use when ever they want to explain what happened in the past and are too lazy to come up with an original idea.

and now they have meadowbrook the unicorn for any OTHER random magical technobabble they might need. XD

Maybe.  Maybe not.

However the content in the Journal of the Sisters  implies that Starswirl is aware of the pony with the star shaped cutie mark that is so prominent on the Tree of Harmony.

On this: I'd honestly 100% rather twilight NOT be starswirls decendant. She's already got so much stacked in her favor, adding in more like being the great descendant of a near mythical unicorn makes it even more absurd.

I do love the "trixie is his decendant" fanon though.

I will always live and die by this bit of headcanon, at least until Hasbro proves it false.

Personally, the idea of a show pony like Trixie being related to one of the greatest wizards of all times is one that appeals to me.  It has so much potential for a great storyline.  Maybe this bit of knowledge could prove to be just the kickstart to help Trixie clean up her act and become a better person.

Or maybe she harbors a great deal of untapped magical potential that winds up being the key to helping the Mane 6 overcome some epic villain that has gotten the better of them.  Then again finding out that she's related to Starswirl could just as easily inflate Trixie's ego to the point where she becomes a villain herself.

I don't think they're actually related by blood. They're both tremendously gifted in the ways of magic, but that doesn't really mean they're related although Twilight obviously idolizes him.

I think the reason Twilight was able to finish the spell is because she understands friendship, and Star Swirl never truly did, as stated by Celestia (I think?) in Magical Mystery Cure.
