ManaMinori 4,145 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 Season 5 has just been a constant train of tearjerk. "Castle Sweet Castle", with its brief, but much needed moment of Twi and Spike in front of the wreckage of Golden Oak Library, "Amending Fences", with Moon Dancer's emotional lash out at Twilight, "Crusaders of the Lost mark" serving a double dose of feels with Diamond Tiara's sad song that gave depth to her character, and the CMC earning their marks and, for many, drawing out the happy tears. There's nothing wrong with episodes being tearjerkers, and MLP does it well, I think. But why do you think the decision was made to make season 5 such a tearjerker season? 2 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Mesme Rize 15,687 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 Many people in this fandom love feelsy moments and i think Season 5 has done well doing so, especially with it's recent episode. When it's possible to get some kind of emotional reaction from you, from a TV Show, then you know that this show really is something special. I was giddy throughout the whole weekend because of the CMC ending their long journey. My big bro thought i needed to go to the hospital. Jeric 46,861 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 And with some Tanks of the Memories and the end of Btotherhooves Social. I really don't know why they loaded this season with so many emotional moments. It could be a simple case that they had four seasons of establishing episodes that naturally allowed for this sort of payoff. This season is definately pushing the nostalgia button over and over again, even when it isn't a emotional tearjerker. I almost think that was intentionally used as a primer of sorts. I approve no matter the reason. I just hope they let off the gas again. My heart can't take much more.

I approve no matter the reason. I just hope they let off the gas again. My heart can't take much more. totally forgot about those. I personally think that Brotherhooves Social was the more heartfelt episode, since it seemed genuine, about a brother wanting tk do all he can for his sister to feel close to her again, in spite of sister being embarrassed by him, rather than "I'll break into a weather factory to stop winter from happening, because I can't be without my pet". But that's just me. It's great that their building off established development of the past 4 seasons, but the feels don't seem spaced out, when it just slams into you through one entire season. If MLP isn't due to end next year, some tearjerkers could bleed into season 6, season 7, season 8.... 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Arrowstormen 62 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 There's been some good emotional things this season, but I also think the show has always been like that. Ever since I read Fallout: Equestria, one of my tear canals has been claimed by poni.
ITV Canterlot 39 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 I'll say! There are brilliant episodes before, but they're solely fun or well-developed. This season I saw many deep episodes that ripped my heart to cry out (almost). They are something purely top-notch, and when a show can produce fine connections to the viewers in episodes such as CMC's level-up, Amending Fences, Brotherhooves or Magic Sheep, it's definitely a good sign that the show is in its prime. This emotional approach is something fresh to us, but they ended up really well. They raised the bar on how to educate viewer, and it's a good spirit to maintain. Lucky Star 972 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 personaly, my favortie episode tends to be the one that gave me the most feels. and I'm pretty sure that most of the fandom can say the same, perhaps they were trying to get more feels out because of this? or maybe it just worked out like that. who knows *OC Lucky Star*
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,803 October 13, 2015 Share October 13, 2015 It could be because they know that these types of moments could work so well. We have had 5 years of establishing these characters that we all now love and creating these moments that are incredibly touching Adds even more fuel to that. The most recent episode is a perfect example of this, even now I am still so giddy and happy when I think about it and that episode made me cry, mainly because it was such a wonderful moment for 3 characters that we have been through so much in these 5 years. Honestly, this tearjerker side to this season is one of the reasons why it is already on track to becoming my favorite season out of all of them. Tanks for the Memories was so incredibly deep on an emotional level and I love seeing the writers experiment with that.

Unlikeable Pony 2,698 October 14, 2015 Share October 14, 2015 Basically, the show's matured alot, and has tried to be a little harsher and hard hitting in the characters lessons, and that leads to feels territory. While S1 wasn't super rainbows, it was definitely ALOT lighter and softer than how the show's gotten-- Compared Nightmare moon's positively half hearted attempts to just scare the mane six away with nightmare moon trying to kill celestia the second she turned into nightmare moon in S4 for example. I think as the show's crew has realized that its hit a slightly older girl audience than they were initially shooting for (They were probably thinking about 4-6 crowd when they started, while now it seems to be upwards to around 7/8 at the top end, not a huge jump but a little bit still), they've tried to adjust things. Plus, aging demographic and all that: The fans they had near the start are growing older, and they probably want to kind of grow with them to keep them entertained. So the show will keep hitting emotional spots. So
GuyNamedEarl 1,332 October 14, 2015 Share October 14, 2015 I feel they are definitely trying to cater to more of the adult audience. Season 1 was all fun and games for the kids, but this season has a lot more feels and I really like that. Sectus 246 October 14, 2015 Share October 14, 2015 (edited) "Amending Fences", with Moon Dancer's emotional lash out at Twilight, I'll give you this one because that episode was actually very well written and had a lot of buildup to it. Hell, it managed to make me of all people emotional. "Crusaders of the Lost mark" serving a double dose of feels with Diamond Tiara's sad song that gave depth to her character, and the CMC earning their marks and, for many, drawing out the happy tears. I don't care what is said, people in this fandom need to stop being constant apologists just because they are fans of the show. Enjoying the show overall isn't an excuse to so easily forgive episodes that are just terrible. Diamond Tiara's character change was introduced and concluded all in one episode's time - that is not acceptable. Any character development that is stuffed into one episode always feels rushed and tacky, just like it did (to a lesser extent, however) with Luna's episode a while back. Don't even get me started on the CMC getting their marks. I know other apologists will say something like: "Oh, the buildup to them getting their marks has been for five seasons! Surely that's enough time!" That isn't the point. The issue here is that they obtained their marks and it was passed off like something irritating that had to be done eventually. Don't get me wrong, it was nice to see them finally get something, but the way it was presented was just awful - it didn't have any impact to it. Oh, and as a friend of mine said: Abusive or uncaring parents is an overdone trope, so there's that also. EDIT: When I say 'apologists', I refer to fans of the show that claim to always like every episode regardless of obvious overall quality. I should have made that more clear. Number62 1,258 October 16, 2015 Share October 16, 2015 Since the show has gone on so long, I'm guessing the people working on the show wanna try more ambitious stories instead of low-key ones.
UnknownFry 169 October 16, 2015 Share October 16, 2015 (edited) If I had to venture a guess is that this season has had more of these "feels" because of tackling more mature themes now as well as resolving some long term goals of certain characters. I also second the notion that this season had several years of content to help hit such emotional pay dirt as well. Of course I am not the type of that goes for the "feels", but I can understand why some people may feel this way given the payout of this season so far. Sure not every episode is perfect or hits the right note, but I think there is something for everyone in Season 5 so far and we are not even done with it yet. cuteycindyhoney 13,316 October 16, 2015 Share October 16, 2015 After five seasons, we have grown to know these characters enough to feel for them. The writers are working with that, to give us what in my opinion are some of the very best episodes in the best season yet! Season Five: The Season of Emotion. Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
