Octavia2 83 October 4, 2011 Share October 4, 2011 I loved the two Discord episodes, but I feel that it would have been better as a three-partner. They had so much stuff to cram in in only two episodes and so, a lot of parts felt kinda rushed. Especially when Twilight converts them all back to normal in the second episode and the beginning of the first episode. *picks up letter* *reads for half a second* "Come on, girls! Celestia wants to see us all in Canterlot immediately" that part felt especially rushed Yeah, I notice that every time I watch the s2 pilots. They go from one thing to another so quickly. I wish they could have made a three parter as well, that would have made the plot a bit more believable, but at least it doesn't take much away from the episode. She didn't even attempt to reach out to Trixie. Also, the moral should of worked for Trixie as well. She was just trying to make a living. It's her job to show off. Almost every other guy who has ever appeared sucked (*Coughcoughsipscoughsnailscough*) or only had one line. Glitterpen 41 October 4, 2011 Share October 4, 2011 I kind of feel a bit... forced to dislike the jerks in this show. Especially Trixie and Gilda. Instead of using their full potential to create a character we can relate to, the writers just kept pressing on how bad their behaviour was. In both their cases, I would've like to see a lot more depth, like the attention given to good characters. Their glamour-failiures are treated as comedic and something for the audience to laugh at, instead of real character flaws. In Trixie's case, I would've liked to see a more insecure side to her personality. That stage-persona obviously isn't natural, but even when everyone finds out about her lies, she still pretends she loves herself as much as she claims. Just 1 shot of a sad expression, when she realizes her cover is blown, would've added so much to her character. But no, the writers just pretend everything's fine. With Gilda, I would really want to know her backstory. Why is she the way she is? It's like they say "Pfft, who cares, she's a jerk! Jerks have no souls!". Also, I wish they'd actually written her as the "cool" type she wants to be, instead of all the out-dated slang and raspy voice. Her last scene sort of gives her a better characterization, coming off as actually pretty awesome for a while, until she she discards Rainbow Dash as "BFF", coming off as plain stupid once again. The show really makes a point of dividing the good and the bad. But we all know, in real life, it's not like that. There's more to real jerks than just being annoying; there's a reason they are the way they are. But instead of showing a more humane side, the writer's spend all their time wacking us over the head with their rudeness. Funny thing is, I love the way they write the actually evil characters. Ponies pulling the train was just stupid, and both the train and the machine seem to me too high a level of technology to fit with the rest of the show. 1 The eldest used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn. It is still good, but it is my least favorite episode. And I agree with the Season 2 premier. It does seem rushed. And then in the return of Harmony, we see all of the CMC arguing about Discord and Cherilee makes them all write a paper about it as if they are all of her students. A big part of that is due to the Mentally Advanced Series episode with Trixie. Snips and Snails with female voices speaking in foreign languages actually works really well. Its 41 second recap wasn't completely necessary, and could have been spared, or at least trimmed in exchange for more time to shed upon, say, Discord's fall from power. Even 10 more seconds added to that scene could have improved it overall. "Well," said Pooh, "what I like best—" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called. And the rest its just cameos. Not much you can really judge them on... It's not so much hate as it is just a visual irk that gets me. I mean, you have the mane 6 and all the background ponies with their well proportioned, color complimenting, good looks... and then these two show up. I didn't even realize they were still colts until the new episode when they were shown on the field trip with other fillies and colts, I thought they were just disproportioned adults . But like I said earlier, that's their appeal as comedic relief and if their job is to convey a sense of being out of place and awkward, the animators are doing a great job and I can't complain. ...But it still irks me For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.
