But Pinkie Pie didn't die after eating the Baked Bads and vomiting, so it's still an error. Besides, a couple of worms aren't enough meat to kill a horse, in fact they would probably pass through undigested.

 

Well, their bodies certainly aren't above other forms of life, so it would be really hard for them to develop that taste, unless they enjoy frequent stomach pumpings.

Some herbivores, like deer or horses, are oppurtunistic carnivores, theres also a video of a deer eating a bird on youtube.

Couple of things:

 

1) Horses in RL can eat meat. In fact, I've watched horses kill and consume snakes, and there are pony breeds over in Tibet that are raised on meat. They don't necessarily process the meat efficiently, but their digestive systems can deal with it if necessary. Equines are 'hind-gut' herbivores, which allow them to be more omnivorous than cows or other herbivores.

 

2) Gelatin as such is animal-based, but some fruit produce a similar material when boiled down. Cranberries, for example. It takes a lot more effort to refine the stuff so that it's transparent, but *technically* you could do it.
