TheMisterManGuy 344 December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 Discord (pre-reformed), Bill Cipher, Monokuma, Korosensei. What do all of these antagonists have in common? They're all goofy, wise-craking villans who love to mess with our heroes. But I have a feeling we're seeing this character type become more and more popular, mainly in cartoons and anime. You see memes, and even compilations of them all over the internet. So with that said, do you think we're seeing this more and more, and what do you think of this Q-esque style of villain characterization?

El Duderino 881 December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 (edited) The TV show Supernatural had a villain that WAS NAMED "The Trickster". He was a perfect example of a "comedic trickster villain". He has god-like powers and he likes to kill bad people in ironic or funny ways. He also likes to mess with the main characters. One time he trapped them in a bunch of TV shows like a sitcom or Japanese game show. He was one of my favorite characters on the show, even though he wasn't a main villain. He turns out to actually be the archangel Gabriel and ends up helping to mane characters fight Lucifer. So I guess he isn't a real villain. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 Anime seems to have this constantly as well. I am tired so thinking of specific examples in such a broad genre is difficult, but it seems to be a fine line between a villain that is pure evil and one that is not intimidating. Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
Magnum Flare 553 December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 And there's 90's and now's Flash with Trickster played by Mark Hamill on both series. When the man who voiced Joker in the Arkham series also played more or less the same guy in a TV series, you know it's going to be good. Alicorn Sunset Shimmer! Castle Bleck 19,451 December 5, 2015 Share December 5, 2015 (edited) The Aladdin animated series once had a trickster literally just named "Chaos," and he was more powerful than a genie due to not being restricted by a lamp, a no-kill rule, etc. (He even reality-warped a Genie clone into existence!) Fortunately, he was also affable and ultimately respected Aladdin and co. Edited December 5, 2015 by A.V. By @Emerald Heart.↑
