"Well, knowing the dork patrol, they'll probably be doing dorky things with it. They'll probably find a way to make sand sound even more boring than it already is." Amber groaned. Returning the sand would probably lead to yet another situation where all the scientist ponies gather round sorting everything out, with the two of them off to the side doing bugger all. "I guess we were at least useful for once. Although I doubt we'll be needed once all the science-y stuff is thrown back into the mix. Yay for being background ponies." She muttered a curse under her breath, returning to her task with even less enthusiasm than before.

 

"Pfft, right?" Solar muttered, rolling her eyes in annoyance, "Dumb science, thinks it's so smart."

 

 

The security stallion standing a few meters away from Amber, "ha you should consider yourself lucky no one asked me anything Sapphire just gives orders." He looked back out to the distance, still speaking. "Amber you'll do something good just wait and see, at least ponies speak to you." He looked back off to the distance.

 

She jumped as she noticed the security pony standing right next to them. "Holy Tartarus, where did you come from?!"

She then blinked and tilted her head. "You guys never speak up, besides I always had this feeling you would just repeat stuff over and over if I tried talking to you."

The security stallion standing a few meters away from Amber, "ha you should consider yourself lucky no one asked me anything Sapphire just gives orders." He looked back out to the distance, still speaking. "Amber you'll do something good just wait and see, at least ponies speak to you." He looked back off to the distance.

 

Amber scowled at the pony rudely interrupting her lament. But she couldn't fault his logic. A sigh escaped her and she placed the last few vials into her saddlebags, shuffling back towards Solar as the other pony left the scene. "Gee, thanks, now I just feel even worse." She muttered grimly. Amber jiggled her foreleg ever so slightly, feeling a subtle numbing pain at the nerve ends. "Meh. We should probably get back to Scarlett at some point soon. Otherwise, we are literally two mares carrying around a ton of sand for no reason. Let's just hope we actually did something right..."

Solar frowned, taken by surprise a bit at how sudden Amber had looked upset. She had also noticed her slightly twitching her foreleg, which concerned her.

"Hey, you alright?" She asked, her voice more quiet and soft, "You don't look so good. Need a drink or something?"

Her ears flicked back, grimacing at her own words. "I-I mean, um..." She cleared her throat, shaking her body all over. "I'm fine, thanks." She turned away, double checking her saddlebags. Lightning raced towards the two mares, furious like never before. "Aaaaaaagggh!" He tripped and tumbled over into the sand. "OOF! Ughhh..." He looked up to see the two mares staring at him with puzzled looks. "Uhh, just in case you were wondering, I came because I heard something about wet sand. Yeah, the 'dork patrol' needs to see it, unless you're too busy making fun of me!" Lightning said with a huff.

Solar actually flinched at Amber's snapping, ears lowered. This wasn't like her friend at all!

"You sure?" She asked, slowly and carefully, "I can see if I can--"

Mind if I take a look?"

The sand seemed to swirl and rise up around her, entombing her, imprisoning her. Sand? Sand! That's what she wanted! Sand! She sluggishly turned to the stallion who'd just arrived, the words he spoke reaching her as just whitenoise. "Wet sand? I got a LOT of that!" She chirped as she dropped her saddlebags onto the ground, their contents spilling out. "See? The not-nerds did something!" She beamed at him. Wait no...the hornets! They're moving! Get out of me! Amber swore she could taste bile on her tongue, the hornets spread throughout her body, taking control of her. Her lungs seemed to contract and relax at an abnormal rate. "UGH, STOP IT! GET OUT!" She fell to the ground, sand being thrown up into the air. She wriggled around, as if trying to scratch an itch that wasn't there, desperately scraping her side against the ground.

Her entire strength seemed to dwindle as she used everything she had to fight against the buzzing. That incessant buzzing! She forcefully grabbed her mane with her hooves, as if trying to tug at it and tear the hornets out from their hiding place. But to no avail. "It...hurts! I can't- feel..." Every word she spoke seemed to only push the knife in further, her throat burning. "I- FEEL...it hurts so bad!" She screamed out, tears breaking through their ducts and freely flowing down her face. She could barely see. I'm going blind! Nothing but darkness!

"I think I know what's happening!" He said to Solar. "I think she's having a heat stroke! We need to get her back to the ship NOW!" "GUARD, PLEASE PICK UP THOSE VIALS AND SADDLEBAGS AND FOLLOW US! This is urgent!" He barked as he helped Solar lift Amber.

She hit the deactivation button and watched as the suit unfolded off of her, then pocketed the small cube in her saddlebag before helping her up. "Easy now, easy... I'm gonna take you to Red, she'll know what to do."

It felt like Amber's thoughts were just steadily oozing out of her subconscious now, any actual words or ideas just coming out as a bunch of incoherent drivel. The feeling of her suit being removed was the worst though. To Amber, it felt like somepony was forcibly removing every inch of her coat, forcing her mouth open in a soundless scream. Her vision was bloodshot, and her nightmares were becoming real. How am I alive? How am I STILL alive? I can't breathe! I can't- I can't- She fell limp in Solar's hooves.

With a bit of effort, she hoisted the limp pegasus onto her back and began hauling her back toward the ship. Hopefully some shade would help her relax.

 

"Red, where are you?!" She called, hoping the unicorn would respond, "We got a situation here!"

 

Scarlett was just reaching the top of the first dune when she heard someone shouting, she thought it was her name. She stood completely still listening for a moment before hearing some rather familiar words. 'We got a situation here!"

 

She quickly looked to where the sound was coming from and honed in on the location. She was at the top of the dune, so the line of sight was quite clear. And then she saw Amber on Solar's back.

 

She then jumped in the air, gained some momentum and teleported down onto the slope of the dune going at quite a fast speed. She got to the pair after about 30 seconds and skidded to a stop before Solar "What happened!" before getting closer to look at Amber "This can't be good."

"I have to agree with Solar. I just had Tuesday run an analysis of the video, and Amber showed the symptoms of heat stroke. We have to get her to a physically colder environment, a.k.a the ship," he said. "If we don't get her there quickly..." his voice trailed off, shuddering at the thought.

She then dived through the gate and her magic left Amber for a moment as she threw her through the gate. She came to a sliding stop on the ship and caught Amber, gently laying her onto the ground. "We need a medical team over here!" she shouted "hurry!"

The red pony turned to Solar "Your suit! Solar, your suit! Your suit has basic diagnostic scanner, it won't find anything big like a rare disease but it's a start right? Those features in my suit are currently disabled, it would take some time to calibrate after decades of non-use. But your suit should have them already enabled!" She thought to herself 'I really hope she knows how to use it'

At that moment, Lightning slid in. "Whoa! Is she still alive? Please tell me she's alive!" "She's alive, but we don't know what's happening to her yet. You know her?" asked the white pony. "I do, or I did anyway.... But's that's not important right now! What's important is that we make sure she stays alive. Is there anything I can do?"
