...Which shows the moment Sonic does the Sonic Boom.

Eh, I've seen these two before. I only really care about his speed when he's compared to RD. If you've checked out my Rainboom Theory: http://r-m-h.deviantart.com/journal/Let-s-do-ANOTHER-Sonic-Rainboom-Theory-576649597 (shameless self-promotion FTW!) you'll see that there barely IS a comparison to be made.

Sonic's the fastest thing alive. Why he doesn't go full speed is pretty simple to understand -- he'd wreck everything he's trying to protect. There's nothing else to discuss...

I like how we're claiming this is "debunked" as if there is some real 100% solid science behind it when these are video game characters whose stories have been changed, modified and who exist in a world where changes are made solely for artistic and gameplay choices. So to assume that any iteration of Sonic is the version to base these theories on will inherently be flawed due to the fact that there is not 100% consistency within the Sonic franchise. Many of the points even pointed out in the video (such as Eggman outrunning Sonic on foot) could simply be explained as the developers making a joke or not caring too heavily about the logistics of the situations thinking people are not going to think that far into it.

That being said the abilities and capabilities of characters is always changing when new content is released in a franchise. So naturally there is going to be a lot of discrepancy and you shouldn't take such discrepancies to seriously. To top this off, gnoggin breaks his own argument with a statement along the lines of explaining why things in movies and games never use an easy solution "We want to keep making sales". Sonic going faster in a game or slower could just be a design choice to make a game more entertaining, so to try and bullshit some science into it really should only be taken as for some fun because it's quite clear that these details such as how fast Sonic is were never intended to be set in stone details that were relevant to the majority of story points or gameplay.

Essentially the short version: trying to debunk a video based upon the science around a fictional character is not only a waste of time, it's more than likely going to be easily re-debunked with the points I just proposed above.

These pieces of proof could be actually disproven. The reasoning of MattPat was solid, and based on mathematics based on pixels.

All these prove is that he's a wannabe.

Can't believe Sonic is so slow! He runs slower than Mario WALKS in some games.

Since this thread will undoubtedly turn into another Sonic vs RD thread, with people using "facts" to argue which one is faster, I'll just drop in and say The Flash is still faster than both of them so it doesn't matter and call it a day

Sonic's speed is "as fast as he needs to be". If the game needs him to be faster than light/sound/rainbow dash/your mum/yesterday's pudding then he will go that fast. Which he can do given his shoes are designed to cheat friction hence why they never burst into flames (much like the Flash and his suit XD)

Speaking as one of this forum's resident Sonic fanboys, it's no use. Key Sharkz hit it on the money, and I don't think there's any more I could add to it.

(Opinion time) The way I see it, he just is fast enough to break the sound barrier. We've seen it a couple of times, that's all I need.
