Where do you think the Changelings came from?

I'd say the Everfree Forest, that way they're connected to nearly every major city (if the Forest is centrally located) and they can sneak into towns and do their shape-shifting easily.

The changelings have been in Equestria all along, in disguise, waiting for the perfect moment.

In fact many beloved characters have secretly been changelings all along, mostly the antagonist characters like Trixie, Flim Flam Brothers, etc.

There are three possible choices, at least ones which can be derived from established settings:

1) Everfree Forest

2) Tartarus, i.e., Hell

3) Barren wasteland in or around Equestria (i.e., the desert on the horizon)

The first choice is the one with the fewest complications: the Everfree Forest is known to hold many a bizarre creature, and a fair number of monsters roam about within its confines. The Changelings could have easily resided in the forest, perhaps underground, undetected by Equestrians. After all, nopony ventures into the Everfree Forest for very long. On the other hoof, one would think a pony would have encountered them earlier; and perhaps they did, only he or she did not escape to tell the tale. Actually, that would be a potentially interesting plot for a story.

The second choice is more intriguing albeit a bit harder to justify. The Changelings might have been sealed away within Tartarus, only to have escaped during "It's About Time". Such a basckstory would explain their unusual powers, large numbers, and existence of a hierarchy. We do not have any specific evidence in the form of references, however, that any creatures which may have escaped Tartarus remained on the loose. Most any explanation would ultimately devolve into pure speculation or fanon.

The third choice is a bit like the first. Effectively, the Changelings are from outside of Equestria. Their attack on Canterlot was a formal invasion of sorts. If Celestia and Luna oversee the wonderfully peaceful realm of Equestria (which does not comprise the entire planet), it stands to reason that, according to what we have seen over the course of the second season, there are other nations or lands independent and/or antagonistic toward Equestria. Queen Chrysalis clearly knew about Canterlot, but Celestia and the other ponies were apparently unaware of the existence of the Changelings. If they came from uncharted lands, this explanation makes sense.

Personally, I lean toward the third option due to more suitably grounded evidence versus the speculation of the Tartarus option. Queen Chrysalis possessing her own realm appeals to me, and it would be cool if it was indeed revealed that she oversaw a swath of otherwise treacherous territory.

Of course, if she were bucked into the wilderness along with her subjects, it could set the stage for a revenge plot.

i think they have their own land like the zebras but have to leave it to feed and become more powerful. Since we've seen a few other species i but they are just very far away from equstria and have just slowly marching towards it

im thinking they came from beyond equestria, possibly somewhere where its dark, and there USED to be life, but they destroyed it, and had their sights set on equestria next

My guess would be either the Everfree forest, or the caverns beneath it. The Changelings are insect-like, so I don't really see them in the desert or in Tartarus. I see them hiding in the shadows, creatures of darkness. They have nowhere to hide in the desert, and nopony to shapeshift as. They could be from Tartarus, but I doubt it. I think there are even worse monsters in there then we have seen so far. The more I think about it, the more Everfree fits. They can hide in the woods, using their shapeshifting ability to hunt. They will become a pony's loved one, luring them into the forest, straight into their hive.

I would say none of the above. The changelings would likely be nomad types, given their feeding requirements. Obviously, they can't eat plants or any cultivated food, so the only option is to raid.

The Changelings are weird. Didn't they feed on love? Then how come they were defeated by it then?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the love give them a massive boost in power instead?

They weren't defeated directly by love. Love helped amplify Shining Armor's magic spell and that kicked them all out. Plus, even if you feed on meat you'd get hurt if someone threw a cow at you XD

I just finished watching the finale again. I was about to start this exact topic.

First off, is Equestria the pony world or is it a country within the pony world?

The reason I ask is because Chrysalis says, "Equestria has more love than any place I have come across." If Equestria is just a country within the pony world, that means there are other countries/continents that have not been mentioned. If Equestria is the whole pony world than I would assume(based on Chrysalis' statement) the changelings came from another world.

I guess the ponies will discover the news about Zecora's death in season 3, KIA by the Changelings.

Probably Everfree forest or... Possibly Tartarus? It kind of looks like the kind of place since she looked like a zombie.

Ya but if they came from tartarus you'd think somepony (celestia) would've know about them.

They arent from Equestria at all.

If you notice Crystallis remarks on how much love is in Equestria, Not Canterlot, Equestria as a whole.

She seems surprised of this fact.

So If I had to guess, I'd say they have their own continent which they have a hive on because they are clearly insectoid based with a queen and her mindless drones, like bees. Crystalis seems to be the only female while the rest are male. They are obviously parasitic and can only live in places where there are plenty of food. So they migrate a lot.
