Wind Chaser 4,768 February 25, 2016 Share February 25, 2016 The only way I see Equestria Girls as anything like a good idea is if it's commercially successful, and it probably is. From a creative standpoint, EqG is mostly a pedestrian squandering of an idea that had much more potential than it actually capitalized on. There was Sunset Shimmer and the Dazzlings, but that's about it.
Starlet Harmony 128 March 6, 2016 Share March 6, 2016 I really like it honestly... I think that it was a great way to expand the show without re-doing it if that makes since... plus, Hasbro has made BANK on the toys!
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,496 March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 No. They took something as magical and fantastical as My Little Pony and shoved it into one of the most bland and generic settings possible in film, thus destroying most of the magic of the series in the first place in the films. I still enjoyed the films, but I hold the belief that they shouldn't even exist.
Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,302 March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 Depends entirely on what you mean by "good idea." I try not to mix up whether or not something is popular and successful with whether or not it was inventive or worthwhile to me, personally. The likes of Justin Bieber and the "Twilight" (not the pony) movie series have taught me this. While EQG simply isn't for me, it does appear to have been successful. From what I've heard, the films started out on a relatively weak note and improved with successive releases. I also know someone who grew to enjoy the films, and I wouldn't want to take the films away from them. But I honestly have never liked the idea. "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. It is a form of seeing." - from "The Amber Spyglass"
Number62 1,258 April 3, 2016 Share April 3, 2016 (edited) It seems to be a commercial success since more films are being made, and the online/Sunset Shimmer fans are too eager to check these films out and buy relevant products anyways. As stated, whether the movies are a creative success is another topic. MLP:FIM has a fairly large fanbase, so there'd also be a large quantity of people who like EG even if the percentage isn't that large. Unlikeable Pony 2,698 April 5, 2016 Share April 5, 2016 I gotta wonder how well EQG is doing financially lately; I know it was dropping in sales in the last 2 financial quaters, and to my knowledge FG didn't rebound in sales quite like they were hoping for.On the other hand, the Minis are Selling INCREDIBLY well from what I've read, so I'll be interested in what the first financial quarter for this year says about the EQG franchise. DerpyFIM4 70 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 (edited) If everyone wants to talk about Monster High, I did a quick Google. They have 2 minute webisodes, not 90 minute movies. Contrary to what many people think, the movies actually get good reviews. Just look for EQG on Amazon. Edited April 10, 2016 by DerpyFIM4

Member Berry 1,217 April 10, 2016 Share April 10, 2016 Yes it was. Just think about how much merchandise they sold from it. It was certainly a good idea from a buisness point of view. - Kayleigh

Evil_Emperor 176 April 14, 2016 Share April 14, 2016 Yeah, I think it was a good idea. I didn't buy into the Pony version, but I like the idea of translating it to a human setting, though I wish it would focus more on magic and mystery than school stuff. Like the original Friendship is Magic, despite being a soulless money-grab concocted by a big company to sell toys, both FiM and EqG managed to be more than just empty cash-grabs. Although they will always be about toys, and the evil toy masters will always have their slime-covered talons hooked into the flesh of both shows, I feel they are both more than capable of standing on their own. So yeah, I'm really glad Equestria Girls exists. It's nice I can enjoy a show about cute girls doing fun things and sing catchy songs without having to be enticed in and kept coming back with shallow sexual fan-service and blatant waifu-pandering. Though fyi I hate shows that rely on those shallow tactics.
Jest (Inactive) 875 April 14, 2016 Share April 14, 2016 It was certainly a good idea to appeal at the demographic the business is targeted at. Also like the show it was very well voice acted, animated, had a great story and I don't see much reason to dislike it at all. If anything it is good to branch out a show into different idea's so it doesn't become stale. -Amateur Artist- http://jestwinged.deviantart.com/ Signature by ~Kyoshi~
