Are there spots for the few pony misfits in the series?

How do you feel about some toyline ponies not in the show?

 

Does anyone see the irony in the fact that MLP is first and foremost, a toyline, and the animated series is just a 25 minute long product promo, yet there are some ponies from the toyline who don't get animated series spotlight?

 

Take, for instance the Alicorn characters Gold Lily and Sterling, who are toyline exclusive. In spite of Hasbro's apparent alicorn obsession, neither of these characters have seen the light of day in the series.

 

Or Star Dreams, the blank flank filly unicorn who had at least 3 toy releases- once in the "Sweet Slumbers" playset alongside Applejack, again in "Cutie Mark Crusaders and Friends" collection, alongside Twist, Silver Spoon, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Cherilee, and Scootaloo. And again, Star Dreams showed in the "Spa and Pony" set, alongside Rarity and Rainbow Dash. Yet, this adorable little filly hasn't shown up even once in the series!

 

Should these characters be thrown into the show, and actually promoted, as how product pushing has always been? Who would you like to see voicing Princess Gold Lily, Princess Sterling, and Star Dreams? Would they have more than 1 episode given to them?

Personally, I'm not found of a show shovelling in a unnecessary character. But who knows, maybe it would be half decent.

Well, the theme is really the friendship between the mane six in my opinion.

 

Also the new ponies wouldn't fill any need and is therefore unnecessary. They're unneeded (wich just happens to be the definition of unnecessary).

and the mane 6 have already learned friendship, so shouldn't they- jusg like Twilight is doing, pass on what they know, and make new friends? (Which requires new faces) focusing on the mane 6, forever, without ever having them make and meet new friends is promoting a closed off clique of friends only in their little bubble, which is not the message of FiM

Well plenty of things on Earth are unnecessary, but that doesn't lessen their worth. Art for example.

if a character isn't necessarily, then it's ok to leave them out of the show. MLP is a toy brand, and they are always coming out with new toys. If every toy was in the show, the show would be overcrowded. 

 

If it would work with the show, then include them, but if not...

I wouldn't say that they have learned friendship. And again there's really no reason for them to make new friends. And even if there was, why should the new friends be the ponies from the toy line?

And why should those ponies be the ones that you're suggesting? If Hasbro wanted to focus on other ponies then there's already tons of them. Celestia comes to mind. And if Hasbro gets really desperate then there's always the popular background characters.

I could just feel the alicorn haters cry out in rage if they brought on two full grown Alicorns from out of nowhere in the series. That would almost be enjoyable just for that, but I don't really see a place they could work their way in. Maybe if Twilight went back in time she could meet other Alicorns, but that would be the only way I could see it.

Hmm... I don't know. I don't think I'd mind, very much. I like seeing new characters. Even if they only appear for a moment or two, or stay in the background, it's fun imagining how their own lives must be.

Well, I dunno, for one part, they'll fill no purpose, but it's kinda weird to not see even as background horses

Most if not all of them are just recolors of existing ponies like the mane six. The princesses you mentioned are just Celestia recolored. It would be odd to see that blatant lack of creativity leak into the show proper.

Needs are things like food, water, and shelter. Art can give you mental stimulation, but you don't need art to get that. Normally, art is for entertainment. And if a new side character is entertaining, then their existence is validated in my opinion.

 

Though I believe that the cast is big enough to make interesting stories for years. Shoot we don't even have a Celestia focused episode. And now we have the chance to have episodes of the CMC helping other kids find their cutie marks. And the Mane 6 themselves still have potential for a million new stories. The creators have more than enough characters to work with.

Yeah, but introducing characters just because you can is pretty unnecessary, especially considering the fact that there is plenty of already existing background characters they could use.
