What would you want the writers to stop doing to the show?

Why are you here then? Why aren't you on a forum about something you actually like?

WOW

Clearly I want the show to end because I don't like it. Flawless logic. With that concept, why should I even pick up a book? The smart thing to do is not read it at all and go find the fabled endless book so that I can actually enjoy it for god's sake!

...

Ah, here's a good quote:

you get a sense of completeness after finishing the series. You can't say the same after just deciding to give up on a show after it's jumped the shark, because there's no finality to it, and you're more bitter with the series than happy with it.

Moral: I do like this show. Doesn't matter, I still want it to end.

As for your first question, this is the primary reason I'm still an active member of these forums.

There are actually several things I would prefer they do to the show to change it. Now, note that I have not seen much of season five, so forgive me if this has been remedied, but here goes.

  • Spike being a side character in the truest of senses. Sure, the show gives him his moments, but that said, he does not have much of a place in the show. He feels like he could be removed completely and the storyline to almost every episode read exactly the same.
  • Give a little bit of attention to some of the background ponies. Sure, we had one episode that gave all the attention to them, but... What about their backstories?
  • Twilight Sparkle. I know this will draw me some heat, but she is a Mary Sue in every sense of the word. She is inherently powerful for power's sake, is able to overcome otherwise insurmountable challenges, and... she has to have help in order to do this, and she is a princess, an alicorn, and has a massive castle and, technically, a kingdom, and the other five get... a few stained glass murals and a seat that glows? Really?
much as I hate Twilight, she's not a mary sue. She didn't listen to her mentor, originally, when told to make friends. She fell to the dark magic of Sombra, and his trap- and would've gotten the empire returned to him, had it not been for Spike being there to get the heart to the dias. She couldn't defeat Chrysalis, was DISCORDED by Discord, and would've stayed that way, had it not been for the rturned letters. She can't use her magic responsibly, and worsens situations when she does use it to fix situations. And much more examples.

That really does bug me, Dash should of at least done Community service for demolishing the weather factory or something

I can second this. I love Alicorn Twilight, but it really is a problem when her friends are just chucked to the way side, especially in these last few seasons. Season three's finale was about her ascension, season 4 was mostly her duking it out with Tirek with her friends helping to deliver the final blow on the last second, and season 5's finale had the mane six pretty much entirely absent save for their alternate selves in the parallel timelines. They need to be in something that Twilight Alone cannot solve and rainbow powers aren't going to whisk away in a blast. Something involving teamwork and, you know, friendship lol

each of the other 5 and Spike need a spotlight on their own in taking down a serious threat

Shows aren't like books. Books come already finished unless its a series. A Show can run for a long time, especially one like this, and I'd rather it end naturally instead of on the whim of a person.

You also said in that same post that you didn't even care about the writers employment and want them to just stop writing

Stop writing episodes, then, since that changes the point so much.

I am too selfish an individual to worry about the employment of others, so again, I don't care about this either.

That doesn't sound like someone who likes the show or the writers.

Besides, they are probably bringing the finale with the Movie.

They shoulda done that with Tirek IMO, I'd of loved to of seen Spike go Greed mode and duke it out with Tirek.

For fuck's sake.

1) Show's aren't like books: Do shows have characters? Do those characters need to develop over the course of the story? Do shows have stories? Do shows have arcs, and do those shows immerse you in a world of fiction? No? Well, shit.

2) A show can run for a long time: Very good. Also, the Earth is a planet.

3) I'd rather let it end naturally: A series finale would be natural. Also, this remark could be synonymous with "I'd rather let it end with a whimper than on a high note." I'd bold or italicize "could" to emphasize and stress the possibility in my quote, but I'll let my words be misinterpreted just because it's worked well for me so far.

4) Than at the whim of a person: It's such a fantasy for a show developer to only want to tell their story and leave with a happy product. That's never been done before, except for the fact that it has. And that's at "the whim of a person", if you would like to belittle that approach so much.

5) You didn't even care about the writer's employment: I am incapable of feeling.

6) That doesn't sound like someone who likes the show or the writers: I want the writers to forge a series finale so that it doesn't jump the shark. That's me trying to help the series live up to its overrated name. I'm sure that doesn't sound like someone who likes the show or the writers to you.

7) They're probably bringing the finale with the Movie: I highly doubt that, and so do a lot of other people, whether they would prefer it continue or not. There's a whole topic on that somewhere.

Agreed

Also show aren't like books specifically in the way they are delivered, books come in one package, shows run per episode, this is what I meant. You and I are on the same page in that we want the show to end right, the way you word it is where the conflict resides.

Yes, well, unfortunately, I can't be bothered to play my sense of humor safely anymore. So, to ruin the fun once and for all, I shall explain that "stop renewing it for more seasons" was a sarcastic remark formulated to contrast to the other suggestions. An evidently honest opinion, but sarcastic nonetheless. I didn't think I would need to write a paragraph of disclaimer for every word in that remark, because that ruins the irony. But since I already have written a disclaimer for every word in that remark across a series of frustrated replies, it's too late for that.

Really, all these redemptions makes me just shake my head at the writers.

Look at chrysalis: She's probably the most popular villain of the group; and she's also the one who's not being touched at all with anything ressembling a sympathetic backstory. They need to stop and ask themselves "Hey, maybe people LIKE antagonists staying antagonist?"

I will say, if they Bring the almighty Grogar into the show and Reform him I'd personally storm their offices

Okay maybe not literally, but out of everyone, Grogar would be one I'd HATE to see as a good guy

She does leave a better impression for not being reformed.

I would like to see Spike step up to the plate. He's just been hanging out on the sidelines too much, and when there's an episode about him, it's not written well at all.

Also...the new Alicorn baby thing...yeah...I don't know how that came to be, unless it was by some mutation, which probably they'll look into...

1. Stop redeeming villains in a lazy fashion. Really, if you're going to redeem a character, than at least give it the time and effort such a drastic change to one's character needs. I'm tired of seeing some lazy asspulls like Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer for the sake of wrapping within a time slot. Preferably, I'd like to see a villain pony that isn't redeemed and serve as a long term villain of sorts.

2. Enough with the Spike abuse. The guy is in dire need of some character building love, not a repeat of Spike literally getting crapped on just so he can learn a lesson.

3. Start using the mane 6 in two partners. They have gotten better in this regard in S5 where the mane 6 were used together in the season pilot and even in the finale, Twilight and Spike were forced into their roles by Starlight Glimmer and they did used the remaining five in the AU timelines so it was fine by me. Still, they need to continue this trend and not return to what the S2 finale started with Twilight being center and focus to solving problems.

Has Spike had any character development?

Power ponies had him realize that, just because he's not a super powered artifact wielder doesn't make him any less valuable to the group as a friend and that he can STILL contribute to help the others even if he doesn't have Super powers/EOH stuff.

Dragon quest was a terrible episode but it did have him "kind of" move on and get over feeling like an outsider in pony society.

Inspiration manifestation had him slightly learn to not be an extreme doormat slave to rarity and that being a good friend means also taking a stand sometimes.

There's also Equestria Games. It gave him a chance to be both a hero and get over stage fright

I doubt he'll get that much more development, since he's a boy in a girls' show.

Stop making evil Twilight Clones

FREAKING THIS.

Seriously, its like they've been having trouble thinking up villains lately and are just like "make an evil twilight".

Sunset shimmer, then starlight... We already had trixie for a twilight foil, and, while not evil, we also got moondancer as a twilight clone now :/

Give us male Alicorns

Probably not till we get an episode or text dump about the alicorn race and what happened to them; and I don't think that'll happen till we get a movie since they'd probably want to keep that as a big gun story idea.

I wish the writers would stop neglecting Celestia. She's just sitting patiently on the sidelines waiting to get picked and they're choosing everypony instead of her. It's a little annoying because she has so much potential and anyone that's a fan of her realizes this. It's not that hard to see. Yet we're still five seasons in and she has had next to no character development. I'm hoping that season six will change this. :)

Yeah.

Its freaking crazy to look back at season 1 and how she was always presented front and center in the advertising as just as big a character as the mane six and how she would appear in tons of episodes; Now? She's lucky to even get more than a couple lines during the season :(

Say what you will about the comics: there's some fair criticism to be made. But at least they make a very honest effort to include and focus on celestia in those :(

And without viewers, they wouldn't be there.

You understand me wrong. You understand respect with not giving criticism.

Giving criticism is fine. But the criticism should never go personal and that's what i mean with respect, because i have alot of respect, that they try to give us the best form of entertainment. Sure, sometimes we might not like it. But we have to respect that they work sometimes 10+ hours a day, to entertain us.

Stop using fandom ideas. I can't stand the pandering.

How can they stop pandering to the fandom when, other than Equestria Girls 1, they never did?

And without viewers, they wouldn't be there.

@@Mesme Rize is on point here. It's perfectly fine to criticize or hate an episode. But when the criticism gets personal, insulting, or both, that's not showing respect.
