animation Can someone recommend me some good anime to watch?

So I don't really watch anime but I really want to get into it, it looks so cute! :sunbutt:

Bear in mind, I don't know hardly anything about it, so I will be putting my trust in you anime experts lol because I myself don't even know what I would like.

The last 'anime' I used to watch was The last airbender (if that counts as anime???)

Anyway things to know about me;

I'm 18 year old

I'm fairly girly

I tend to gravitate more to drama kind of shows

I'm not a fan of too too too much action (I like a bit of action tho)

Anyway, I'm open to any suggestions!

I'm not really one to read others' interests well, but if you haven't seen it, I'm fairly certain everyone loves Naruto.

I don't watch much that isn't action or slice of life, but I'll try anyway.

Fullmetal Alchmist Brotherhood has quite a bit of action, but the story is really solid and it certainly has drama.

K-ON is about as slice of life as you can get, being about some girls who are in a band at school...and that's it, really. It has awesome music, though.

School Rumble is fun because it has really strange humor sometimes, and it's slice of life.

Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star are also slice of life, and generally a lot of fun.

If you like sports, I'd certainly suggest Hajime no Ippo (boxing), Haikyuu!! (volleyball), Kuroko no Basuke (basketball), Yowamushi Pedal (cycling) and Prince of Tennis (tennis).

Other than that I watch primarily action oriented shows like Bleach, One Piece, Fairy Tail, Berserk, Hellsing and Inuyasha...and I'm probably forgetting a huge number of series here.

And this tells me precisely what sort of shows to recommend to you. xD

Someone already said "Azumanga Daioh!," and I'll second that.

"Kin-iro Mosaic," while nowhere near as funny, is similarly cute and devoid of action or violence.  It's kind of difficult to find them, but there actually are charming, innocent series out there.

There's also the "magical girl" genre.  If you want something that isn't rife with fanservice, "Cardcaptor Sakura" is a quality CLAMP anime.

OMFG CARDCAPTOR SAKURA! I love the hell out of that show!

CLAMP does a lot of crossovers with their characters- you'll see the same ones crop up in wildly different shows.

anyways- another good one that's more cerebral is XXXHolic. It's totally SFW, I have no idea why they put XXX in the title.

I really liked One Punch Man. Give it a try, even though it has action and gory moments.

Yes, One Punch Man! Great anime (and great manga too if ya wanna read). It's pretty comedic and is quite short at only 12 episodes. Give it a try!

Another one I can recommend is Sword Art Online. Great anime that isn't too dark and has an interesting story.

If ya want something darker, then there's nothing I can recommend more than Death Note. Absolutely outstanding anime and is my favourite to this day.

I really liked xxxHOLiC; though I don't get the title either. xD  Maybe the "xxx" was more like "fill in the blank," and -holic simply indicated addiction?  I really have no idea.  I think I still have a few volumes of the manga; the art is amazing.

Always thought the intro was pretty catchy:

I can't help but notice how many responses ignored the OP's description of what they are looking for. Naruto and One Punch Man aren't really in the cute drama/slice of life genre...

Fullmetal Panic FuMoFu. The LOL, so much LOL! Or School Rumble, or Girls Und Panzer.

I think Gunslinger Girl is a pretty good emotional Anime, that i really like and would suggest.

Only Problem is, they stopped adapting the Manga after 2 Seasons, so the Anime is incomplete. So thats dumb.

Inuyasha is fairly decent, it has some elements of Shonen (boys) and Shojo anime, good action and a decent plot which combines historical fiction (Feudal Japan) with fantasy elements. Durarara is a rather interesting mix of slice of life, fantasy, and drama it is difficult to describe but is heavily character driven so much so that the city it takes place in (Ike Bukuro, Japan) is like a character unto itself. Hetalia is hilarious and great if you like comedy anime or a history buff like me, Hetalia is an anime where it is a sort of what if the various countries were actual people. It delves into both the negative as well as positive stereotypes of various countries, Japan is portrayed as quiet, introverted, a bit shy at times and small hints of having a fairly nerdy side. America is portrayed as loud, boisterous, arrogant, obsessed with always being the hero and eats an obsessive amount of junk food, especially hamburgers. One Piece is mostly action yet has a good mix of humor and drama as well and tends to appeal to a diverse audience.

While Lupin The Third dosen't fit your specific parameters I will recommend it anyway because it is one of those classics I would recommend to almost anyone. It is an older anime that started in the 70's and the original manga began publication in the 60's. The animation style borrows heavily from western animation and actually has a similar animation style to Inspector Gadget which if you like you may like Lupin The Third. Lupin The Third is about about the grandson of French literary figure Arsene Lupin who was had a significant influence in establishing the "honorable thief" trope. It follows Lupin and his gang as they travel around the world stealing various things while running away from Interpol officer Inspector Zenigata and other law enforcement officials as well as rival thieves and other shady characters. Lupin like the classic gentlemen thief warns and taunts his victim ahead of time before robbing them, refuses to steal from people he deems innocent or vulnerable, only kills in self defense, dosen't kill cops, and will sometimes return certain stolen items in certain extenuating circumstances. Lupin himself though he is a huge pervert which can stunt his judgment he is acknowledged as the greatest thief on earth.

I agree with all of these who are suggesting you to watch Full Metal Alchemist.

It is a really great anime that I would totally recommend anyone to watch, and I am someone who is just recently trying to watch a lot more anime.
