gaming Games you couldn't get into at first but ended up really enjoying?

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was something which I rented a few times, but didn't enjoy.

Not long after that, I bought it and ended up totalling 200 hours of play time on it. I'll let that number speak of my experience on it.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Ninja Gaiden on Xbox. At first, I hated the camera and how difficult the game was. Now, I consider it one of the best games I've played. I like the speed of it, as well as the ludicrous efficiency of the block. I also like how it's difficult, but still fair. Sure, it gets cheap sometimes, but usually it'll give healing when you really need it.

Bioshock is a good one, I was expecting a generic and overhyped shooter only to come out having a blast, loving the world and the story, now it's in my top 10 games ever

Red Dead Redemption too, I played for a while at first and couldn't really get into it, but when I went through it a second time I had a much better time

The best example I can think of is with Paper Mario 2 (The Thousand Year Door). As a kid I had confused this game with Paper Mario 3 (Super Paper Mario), and was ultimately disappointed when I discovered it wasn't. I had never heard of a turned based RPG, and all this confused me, so I held the game off for years leaving it to collect dust among my collection. Eventually slightly older, younger me decided to take another look, and I figured out what younger me couldn't. I fell in love with the game and turned based RPGs in general. What I find funny, much later that year I got to finally play Paper Mario 3... and I hated it for not being true to the Paper Mario series, while to this day I consider Paper Mario 2 one of my all time favorites by Nintendo... I find it kinda ironic.

DKC: TF is a prime example of why you should keep playing a good game no matter what sometimes. As a child, I had such fond experiences with DKCR, and when it came time for me to play the sequel, I didn't really think much other than the fact that it was more of the same. I enjoyed the first world, I loved the first boss, but nothing about the game at the time really stood out to me over it's predecessor.

That all changed when I entered World 2, and, for whatever reason, everything just sort of clicked for me. I went from thinking of the game as "good, but just more of the same", to an absolutely sublime game which I could not put down for months. As time as passed since, my love and appreciation for it has only increased more and more, and to be honest, nowadays I think that it absolutely wipes the floor with it's counterpart on the Wii, and, again, I love DKCR.

My favorite game of all time BTW.

Rimworld.

I tried on and off for a few years to get into the game, but it never quite clicked for me until I decided to start a new colony with a few mods and using Touhou characters instead of the random default ones the game rolls you with. After that I got hooked and it's become my favourite game of all time. ^^

Stardew Valley. Very slow game at first, but I've put in so many hours and now it's probably my favourite game.

For the longest time, I really disregarded Banjo-Tooie in comparison to it's predecessor, I had attempted to commit to it many times over the course of about five years and I found it to be overly-elaborate, drawn out and dull. Upon finally sitting down to play the game in a dedicated fashion last year, it's significantly more enjoyable than I used to give it credit for. Yes, I still have many issues with it, and I still ultimately prefer the first game for it's faster pace and accessibility, but Banjo-Tooie clearly had a lot of thought put into it. And from somebody who loves Zelda, I can appreciate the labyrinthine, multi-layered design on a level that my 14-17 year old self just didn't have the patience for.
