Which is your favourite comic?

Personally my favorite is the Sombra FIENDship comic; followed closely by the Reflections arc and Chrysalis FIENDship. I have plenty of other favorites, but these tend to be my top pics.

Also I edited the title of your topic to finish spelling out "your" as that aggress with our and Google's search engine more. :)

"Reflections" (king sombra arc) was AMAZING.  definitely in contention for best of the best.

It is my pick for the best dramatic arc, and also for best action.

The fact that it also has some of the best character development of any arc, and single handedly turns sombra from boring to fascinating are additional points in its favor.

"Neigh Anything" is interesting in that I just LOATHED the first issue, but the second was incredible, and partially redeemed the first.  However, it is not really enough to provide redemption of a "bad" issue.  I want to enjoy the issue while I am reading it for the first time, and I had to wait a whole month!
So that arc probably isn't in my top 20.

"Fall of Sunset Shimmer" was  so disappointing that it stopped me from getting the other annual, making them the only two comics I don't own.

This is almost certainly flavored by my heavy anti-equestria girls bias.  It is hard for me to review that one objectively, so I won't try.

---

Besides "Reflections", others from the main series that are in contention include:

  • "Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair".  This did for big mac what reflections did for sombra.  It was less dramatic, but made up for it with light-hearted fun, and being very funny.
  • "My Little Pirate: Friendship Ahoy". There is something very special about [redacted] of all ponies leading us on a wild pirate adventure.  the first issue was just ridiculous, and then the second shifted into a much more relational arc that was just precious.

Friends Forever issues in contention:

  • CMC/Discord (#2): i am neither a discord nor a CMC fan, but this was magical.  not only was it chock full of fun, cultural references and a wild adventure, it was one of the most touching pony moments of all time.  A wonderful surprise to me.
  • Celestia/Spike (#3): this issue has the best characterization of both spike and celestia across all media in the universe.  it showcases mentor celestia at her best, but also about how lovely a friend she is.  I'm dying for more interactions like this one

Microseries in contention:

  • Rarity (#3): This is the best of Rarity ever.  It shows all of her emotional angles, and the best of her generosity.  She's just a bit out of her element and off balance, but still the confident and in control rarity that we know and love.  the supporting cast is just lovely and the whole package comes together perfectly.
  • Luna (#10): This is the best of Luna ever.  Everything we like about her is showcased with excellence. It's a growing time for her, but also the funniest comic.  We must see more of luna's sidekick!

FIENDship is magic in contention

  • none.  they were good, especially Chrysalis, but none crack the top 10

---

If I have to pick a best, it is really hard to top "Reflections", but it also isn't really a fair fight, since it had four issues to flesh out the story.

but I'll give an honorable mention to Friends Forever: Spike/Celestia for being the best single issue, and an honorable mention to Microseries: Luna for being the funniest issue.

Hard to pick for me. In comic books a single moment can actually save an otherwise pedestrian storyline. All the longer arcs have moments that have annoyed me in some way, shape, or form ... but two of the more controversial ones (Nightmare Rarity and Reflections) have scenes that left me bereft of self ... a moment in which the narrative, derivative emotions, and exploration of thought merges seamlessly into an all encompassing engagement; though more ephemeral in books in which quality varies ... it happened in both of the aforementioned titles. Those are my favorite moments of the series.

As far as quality an consistency within a complete story ... Rarity Micro, Friends Forever #3, and Friends Forever #2 are all very well done.

I remember nightmare rarity controversy, but what was controversial about reflections?

Most of my favorite comics tend to be in the Friends Forever line, I especially have a soft spot for the Trixie and Dash one, that was really fun and the two work wonders together.

And I don't even like Trixie

Plot convenience reset button to status quo was what I believe was most mentioned gripe. Funny thing is, the presentation of the ending was my favorite part of the story. To each their own I suppose.

huh, yeah, that doesn't bother me at all.

since the comics can't change the main series, telling the backstory is one of the most powerful storytelling tools in their arsenal, as they can show character growth without messing with the show.

I've found that the comics have found ways to make me appreciate many of my least favorite characters.

Like Granny/Film Flam and Mayor Mare. FF really does an excellent job at backstories and delving deeper into some overlooked characters.

I mean Blueblood got fleshed out!

oh yeah, i totally forgot about the blueblood comic.  that was expertly done.  the ability to show competence and understanding while still staying true to the character must have been tough to write.

I was really surprised by that one.

Question is rather general. If it's MLP-related, then I'd have to say Friends Forever series. I love it and read vol 1-5 every week (I get 'em from my local library who doesn't have any of the newer ones - only vol. 1-5.)

“All Muslims are like a foundation, each strengthening the other; in such a way they do support each other.” (Abu Musa, Bukhari & Muslim)

“Say: He is God, who is One. God, the Eternal. He begets not, nor is He begotten. And there is none like unto Him.” (Chapter 112, Qur'an)

It should be MLP related since this is a IP specific forum area, yeah. Come to think of it, is there even a general comic discussion topic in Media? :wau:

Respect for supporting your library!

ooooooooooooooh.

now I get what Shabb3r was getting at.

I was really confused.

Heck, I have respect for people just USING their library, let alone supporting it.  When I lived in Fairbanks Alaska, I was at the library all the time, as it was one of the best that I've ever been to.

Here in Fort Worth, my brony club has been using meeting rooms at a library for our meetings.

@Shabb3r

Many libraries purchase materials based on suggestions.  If you asked them to get more comics, they might do so!

The Luna Micro is still one of my favorites. It's basically the Royal Sisters episode we'll never get. Other good issues include the Shining Armor and Twilight FF, Rarity and Applejakc FF, Nightmare Rarity Arc, and the Sombra and Tirek FIENDship issues.

The fact that we ALSO got cool Celestia moments in that episode are major points in its favor.  seeing what Celestia chooses to do when she gets a day off says a LOT about who she is.  It also highlighted the stress that Luna was under by contrasting it with relaxing Celestia scenes.
